There's definantly a reason to moan, they said the localisation would be happening "much faster" and at first they even wanted a worldwide release. Now there is a BARE MINIMUM four month wait, and I think the chances of it releasing Dec. 31st in Japan and April 1st in NA is extremely low.

SE seemed to have fucked up in some capacity because that is hardly a "significantly cut down localisation time". Unless they only meant Europe doesn't have to wait 11 FUCKING MONTHS this time.

Someone said the new consoles would be releasing around that time, that's wrong. This generation is going to go for longer than the last couple, there just isn't any point in upgrading again when there's so much left in the current hardware. There's few noticeable advances to be made, and when most of us only just bought a $600 console or two they really can't expect us to be about to buy another.

Maybe it's just me but I feel like this console generation only just started. If they announced another console now, I would be incredibly angry. I don't want to update again for at least half a decade.

I don't exactly know the duration of localisation for previous Final Fantasy games. But, whether it takes longer now or a (disappointed) little shorter, I value the quality of the game very much (and all of you of course). It's a no brainer that everyone outside Japans wants to game SOON, but it would become a bigger let-down if, say, text-translation (I highly doubt this one though) or voice-over work is inappropriate and all the other significant factors that affects the localisation process. I trust the SE crew for its hardwork and quality of games for many years and I wouldn't want the FFXIII that fast if the trade-off is something like poor voice-over; come on, we all don't want that, right? Final Fantasy XIII will come to us. Patience... Patience...:D

Very dissapointing news. I was hoping for the 2009 release (although I knew that it was gunna be for Japan), if SE actually cared as much for their western fans as they say they do, they would at least translate the game at the same time as the original Japanese version.

I find it horrible as well on their part that they believe 'caring' for their western fans is to provide us with a 360 version. If anything, the people that are fans currently were PS AND PS2 users who are now PS3 users, no doubt a small portion may be 360 users also, but still, the point remains its highly annoying for a long time fan to be shit on like this continually. Western games that are released in the east do not get this type of treatment.

I sincerely hope this is not true, and that we get confirmation of an actual release date very soon.

It could take 3 to 9 months as far as I know because they have to make it compatible with Xbox 360. Also they have to put it onto multiple disks, seeing as the disks used for 360 aren't Blu-Ray, therefore not a lot of disk space.

I do know that Kitase and Nomura don't exactly like each other (http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/2008/05/28/kitase-doesn-t-hate-nomura-just-has-seperate-goals.html) but I'm sure Wada must mess them around a bit with news like the move to 360. I think I remember an interview with one of them during E3 where they said they only just heard about the 360 version a little while before Wada announced it at the Microsoft Press Conference. Hopefully they are pulling legs, otherwise it's going to be a long wait, I can't go through another year without playing a new Final Fantasy game. I guess I should find a copy of Final Fantasy 9 and play that.

Just remember how long we had to wait for XII.

I still had a blast with the game (I did it twice in a row. First game clocked at 91 hours, and the second at 193 hours -_-). The game was really polished and it was obvious they took good care of every little details.

With XIII, the game has a lot of hype going for it, and S-E knows that it mustn't dissapoint. Especially after they released 2 sup-par games (as far as their own standards go) in Last Remnants and Infinite Undiscovery. Now, I'm pretty confident that Dragon Quest IX and Star Ocean: The Last Hope will be stellar games like they always are in those respective series, but so far, S-E has yet to release anything worthwhile that screams AAA. The last game that deserved my attention was Crisis Core for the PSP, and even that wasn't on par with what I expect from them.

Actually, to be honest and objective, I'd say that they haven't been doing so well (as far as overall game quality goes) since the debut of the PS2. Before the PS2, Squaresoft was taking some risks by giving us games like Bushido Blade, Tobal, Brave Fencer Musashi, Einhänder, the Parasite Eve series, Vagrant Story, Xenogears(...), while of course continuing to give us the AAA games we love them for like 3 Final Fantasy games, the return of the Chrono series, Final Fantasy Tactics, Front Mission 2, and Legend of Mana (...).

Jump forward to the PS2 era... what did we get? The Bouncer (Not all that great, but still a good showcase of their technical mastery of the PS2 hardware), Final Fantasy X, XI and XII (I have mixed thoughts for XI), Kingdom Hearts series, Driving Emotion Type-S (WTF??), sub-par SAGA games, a sequel to a main Final Fantasy entry in X-2 (which had a compelling gameplay coupled with a lame story...)...

Move forward in time a bit more, and Squaresoft and Enix fuse together, forming what should be the ultimate J-RPG funhouse... yet...

...Countless remakes (from Final Fantasy to Dragon Quest to Star Ocean to Chocobo hair salon (I made this one up)), sub-par games that make us wish we were still stuck in the SNES era like Dawn of Mana, , more Final Fantasy Remakes/Ports (GBA, PSP, and don't forget the DS), Radiata Stories (again, interesting yet not on par with what we're used to... story is a yawn fest), Drakengard (yeah, let's enter Koei's world... repetive and bland), Grandia III (never was as good without GameArts), OVER-MILKAGE of Final Fantasy VII (killing the original game in the process), more remakes, this time Valkyrie Profile is the target, sub-par sequel is made... other sub-par game in Project Sylpheed , etc, etc, etc... (At least we got the main Final Fantasy series and Dragon Quest VIII!!!)

So here we are, with Final Fantasy XIII, Versus and Agito. 3 games that look great as far as the info we have on them goes. Games like Parasite Eve: the Third Birthday, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, and Dragon Quest IX (and X on the Wii) all look really promising, and I sure hope it will get S-E back to where they were during the years that preceded the PS2 era. Which was a time of unparalleled quality among their peers.


As far as FF XIII goes, I don't care how long it takes. I just want the game to be as great as a Final Fantasy game can be (I'm looking at you IV, VI and IX - with XII just a step behind).

As long as I don't die of old age before it comes out, I'm fine.


But I'd be lying if I'd say I'm not getting impatient.
