Hey all, there may be one of these threads already, but I'm hoping that we can voice our opinion here about original japanese voice acting. I just saw that Star Ocean4 will not have this feature (not surprisingly) and I really feel the lack of this simple game-improving feature (imo).

I would love to see the japanese voicecast with engl. subtitles and menu...
or at least as an option!

Well, I couldn't care less, as long as the English dubbing is hot. But since it's a rarity when it comes to Final Fantasy dubbing, I vote for the Japanese voice acting with English subtitles.

I actually like English voiceovers. :X
But the option would be nice

Don't really want to hear moonspeak while playing my games. Especially not if I don't understand it. It completely takes away from the emotion when someone is speaking.

I definetly would love to have the option to play the game with japanese voices instead considering if what I have read is true that Lightnings VA is Akeno Watanabe then I'm down with that.

I'm for the whole Japanese with English Subtitles thing. Frankly, English dubbs just kinda... Suck.
Disagreeing entirely with Fenryr on this one. Japanese is probably the most emotional and passionate language I've ever heard.

If you can't understand what they're saying, then it's hard to derive any sort of emotion from it. At least for me it is. It's more distracting than anything

I prefer English voice overs, you know since I speak English not Japanese =P
It should be an option though for the people who like Jap voices with subs

quoted for truth...
as for Star Ocean being in English... well its a tri-ace game... and its on the 360 possibly on mutiple disks and so theres a space issue...
the last remnant now theres an SE game and yes only features English but again the space issue and it was made with a western audience in mind doubt they'd wanna put Japanese on there even as an option when its been made with us in mind...

I opt for English voice overs... But it wouldn't hurt to add subtitles as an option if they were to include Japanese voice overs for those it really matters to.

But its on 1 or 2 Blu rays so there will be place enough for japanese voice's. Hopefully not French like my Kingdom Hearts I game. That really Sucks

I have to agree. I would love to have the option to hear it in Japanese and English.
I'd play through it once in English, then second time Japanese, just for the different experience.
It wouldn't be a ton of work to keep the Japanese audio track and space shouldn't be an issue with Blu-Ray. I can hear emotion in Japanese, but probably because I've been exposed to it for the past five years.
And I'm very sure the game will have subtitles regardless of language, because just about every FF game with dialog has had them.

I think people just get used to whatever they get exposed too. if it's good media then their preferences grow towards what format they experienced that good media in.
I will say though that every voice actor brings any character to life in an entirely unique way. I'm convinced that if anybody plays a game or watches an animated show in two different languages they will have to admit that they have experienced two very different characters. It's not so much being able to understand the language. It's all about the emotions that live within the speaker. I'll go out on a limb by saying that Japan has a far greater commitment to voice acting than any other country that I know of. Last but not least, the voices selected for the japanese track, are selected by the people that have the intimate relationship of actually making the game. The other languages will never be as close to the true intentions of the game's creators as the native language of those creators.

Yes, I'd like a Japanese voice-acting and subtitle option in my Final Fantasy games and other games originally developed in Japan. :)

Considering how long the game is, im going with the English Dub. Only because reading subtitles gets tiring after awhile... and once I start an FF game there's no way in hell im puttin down. Dont get me wrong though I love the Japanese language, I just wish I could speak it.

Well if you want jananese voice buy the japanese game. I don't want NA game to be japanese voice and english voice sorry. I want to understand what they saying. Having it maybe as a extra is cool. But English voice should be the voice of the NA game. Again you can always import the japanese one.

^ They mean have Japanese with subs as well as English, so you can play it in the language you want.
It'd be a nice option to have, but if they don't (most likely) or for some reason can't implement it, it wouldn't bother me at all. I've always been happy with the dubs so far, so I'd only try Japanese to see the differences.

Voicing your opinion like this is not going to work. The only studio's I have heard of that actually listens to the fans are makers of FPS's and thats mainly during beta's.
Look at what happened to the guy who was making "Bob's game" for the DS and his lame attempt at a 100 day sit in for Nintendo.
As for the actual opinion on the voices, who cares. If I don't hear the Jap. ones and I only hear the American ones, I don't know what I am missing anyway. Plus, I hate reading subtitles and can't speak or understand Jap.

I Would LOVE Japanese With Subtitles. Over The Years Of Watching Japanese Anime With Subtitles Its Grown On Me. But I Still Wouldnt Mind Having Just English. Plus, Multi-Language Owns.

yeah, if only they did english subtitles for the japanese game. but then you'd need a japanese ps3 i think sooo. I totally wouldn't want English to disappear from JRPG's in North America by any stretch. I just want the option. If I had the option sure I'd never play the english one, but whatever.

Regarding what dxgirly said.
Exactly my stance. I watched Final Fantasy: Advent Children in japanese with english subs before I watched it in the dubbed english version. When watching it in japanese I just found it so distracting to have to read the subtitles while looking at their faces. I didn't feel connected to their words.
If you understand a language, sure, then the barrier is gone.

I have the same thing as Fantasy, after years of watching subbed anime, I kinda feel bad with English dubs, so Japanese voices with English subs/menu's for me.
Fenryr, it's something you'll get used to after a while.

Final Fantasy XII IMO actually had better english voice overs than the Jap one so we might be surprised with what we get in XIII.
Anyway, the way I see it is if you can speak the language than you should just import the Jap version (PS3s are region free) but if you don't speak the language...than what's the point?

A Japanese language option would be nice, in my opinion as long as there were English subs. But it wouldn't work that well if the English translation was so off like Eternal Sonata's is sometimes. You're watching the game, reading the subs and realize 'That's not what they're really saying...' in a completely obvious way. So it depends on how loyal the translation is to the original.
I plan on importing anyways, even though my Japanese is way before the required level to understand it xD

Not exactly, I used to watch subbed anime quite frequently, now not so much. And that's all fandabidosy but when it comes to games I just can't connect to any of it. Never got used to it with Final Fantasy AC that's for sure. But still, I'm not going to jizz my pants just because it's "JAPANESE SPEAKING". A good voice cast is a good voice cast regardless of language. And with Final Fantasy related games I tend to like the english voice cast a hell of a lot more.
Not to bash your point though, with anime dubs I never find myself liking the english dubs at all. Poorly casted half the time. In that case I much prefer watching the subbed versions.

then you may need to watch more films?
If the voice acting is on par with XII I could care less but if it in the same group as R.A.D I rather listen to japanese. I can still make out some of it.

So it depends on how loyal the translation is to the original.other than that being sometime a godsend there is another problem that stems from the higher ups. Most translation teams aren't given the cash or authority to resync the lips up allowing them to say all that needs to be said.

In the end I wouldn't mind and I would switch between the two but ultimately play in English.
Before I agreed with dxgirly in saying that without knowing the language its harder to understand the emotion but finalmattasy (http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/forums/member.php?u=3483) pointed out the exposure thing and I guess in away its true, I played thru lost odyssey in Korean and English, due to exposure to Korean its pretty easy to appart emotion but not all the time so I think both you guys are right (http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/forums/member.php?u=3483)

I think when it comes to Final Fantasy dubbing, Japanese is definitely better than the English ones (although the XII dub was quite good). I'm expecting a good English voice acting for both XIII and Versus, but nevertheless I'm going to import it. :aldo:

Said 'hi', actually.
It would not hurt for them to place it into different languages for selection. I mean shit sometimes the voices for Japanese actually sounds better sometimes.

Yes, put both in there. But it's not like US voices are going to end up like, let's say, FF X?
They aren't going to feck things up. Besides, Final Fantasy is for EVERYONE in the world to enjoy, not just the Japanese.
You guys should respect yourselves.

If you dont want eng dub buy the japanese PS3, quite simple. Every game will be japanese. I don't want japanese in NA games. I want to understand what they saying. Reading Sub titles stink. Reminds me of NES days reading texts all the time. As a option for second play over to hear japanese may be cool. But having japanese only would be ridicious. No one is stopping anyone from importing japanese ps3.

Well, just my opinion really. Mainly I just think Japanese sounds cool, too bad my school's ghetto and didn't offer it for a language class.
'Twas the winter of my discontent.
