is it strange for a girl to tell a guy she likes him? especially if they've known each other for a long time?

No. It isn't.
Feelings grow, unless you want it to sit in the friend zone 4EVA.

if you're friends, then it could ruine your friendship..true but sadly.. so what to do then is just to start flirting and see how he react, because you dont just wanna switch from being friends with someone to boyfriend/girlfriend..it never works.. just take it slow and show him a "not just friendly" you ^_^
and if you are NOT very good friends, you're still gonna have to start flirting first but maybe a litle bit more aggresive (not TOO aggresive) and see how it goes... Good Luck

It's not strange, but not always the best thing.
Sometimes being just good friends can avoid a lot of trouble than being more intimate.
Is brave to say a guy that she like him, but is important that the guy gave her the correct answer "no, I don't like you" or "yes, I like you too".

thanks for all your advice people. i haven't said it, but i just might. what i was worried was that he'll be freaked out and all, i mean, a girl you grew up with isn't exactly the person you wanna hear a "I like you." from, isn't?
but i am still freaked about it. keep the advice coming. thanks!

It's hardly the last person you'd want to hear it from :P. Seriously just go for it. If it isn't to be I'm sure you can both just stay friends.

it's awkward, cause we can't communicate normally. even if we're at the same place, we talk via sms and msn. and he has a super-grouchy look that would make squall leonhart proud

Maybe he needs some lovin. That'll stop him looking grouchy.

maybe you should try seing him IRL, have a "friendly" date to get to know each other and who knows he maybe isnt as you really thought he was.. people tend to be more diffrent when just chatting via sms or msn or anyother kind of way thats not in person;)

Haha. On the advice of people here ( as well as some stuff that happened), I TOLD HIM.
It could have been worse. But he was really nice about it. So I feel quite bad. But we're still good friends.
