Lol as the title says, someone from MSN gave a preview of Killzone 2.

Killzone 2- Hands on

If one was to list the most controversial games in the past decade, Killzone (the series) would definitely make it to the top 5. The first game earned the title "Halo-Killer" but proved to be a disappointment, while the second had a very bad start, due to the infamous "E3 2005" controversy. For the uninitiated, Sony showed off Killzone 2 with a video that was done to "PS3 specification", or in simpler terms, they believed that when the game was complete, it would look similar to the footage.

This led to a major flame war between fans, and the media criticized Sony's approach. Sony responded to this last year with in-game footage, running real-time on the PS3. Interestingly, the screen comparison at the end of this preview will show you that they almost did manage to keep their word.

I recently got a hands-on with the 5 single-player levels, as well as the online multiplayer (which I'm hooked on to) of the game, and of what I've seen; this is a game to look forward to.

Now let's get some perspective, Sony and its PS3 are not the most loved entities on the planet right now. The PS3 is often criticized for its high price point, its limited game collection (which I don't really agree to), shoddy performance of some of its games (Xbox 360 ports) and much more.

This is a product that has a lot to prove to the world of gaming, a world that Sony once ruled (90's to early 2000), and it's trying really hard with some solid offerings like Killzone 2. The game is due in Feb 2009 and boasts of some jaw dropping visuals, as well as a must-have multiplayer package. So let me give you my initial impressions about the game, starting off with the single player.

The single player experience reminded me of another console title a.k.a Call of Duty 4. Killzone 2 certainly makes you feel like you are a part of the battle. It delivers the intensity and struggle that one may face during war. From the time the game starts on planet Helghan, there is constant mayhem; this is one planet that doesn't believe in peace. You play the role of a solider of the ISA, who is avenging a strike on his colony planet called Vekta, by taking the fight to the enemy's home turf.

The plot is engaging enough for you to pay attention to the mission briefing, but honestly, with so much activity in-game, the plot is the last thing on your mind. I have played the original Killzone on the PS2 (and unlike others, I liked the game), so getting used to the controls wasn't that difficult. The new cover system called Lean and Peek is easy and very well executed. Once you get the hang of it, using lean and peek is great, as it keeps you constantly engaged in battle, while saving you from the barrage of bullets.

After playing the first two levels, I got accustomed to lean and peek, which was handy in a few scenarios, when the enemy attacks from virtually everywhere. The Six-Axis controller comes handy when turning valves. You press the shoulder buttons and turn the controller as if you are actually turning the valve; good use of the motion sensor. Classic weapons from Killzone return along with some new really cool weapons, a really impressive aspect of design was the change in movement speed while carrying heavy weapons.

The enemy is smart and adapts to the situation quite quickly. You will never find them running towards you blindly shooting concrete, they offer more than a decent resistance. As mentioned by the developers, many other details were prominent, the walls crumble as you shoot at them, explosions leave a deep dent in the walls and at times all that remains are the metal frames. Simply put, this was a very impressive single player experience, especially for a beta. There was the occasional glitch, but that is something you expect from a beta. Now let me tell you about the visuals.

Killzone 2 looks really good; the build that I played was beta but looked better than most retail games out in the market. The lighting is excellent; the characters are detailed with crisp and clear textures for the environment and the game is a visual treat. There is so much action taking place on screen that at times it can be overwhelming. I played the game with decent surround-sound and quickly realized that the sound of battle was loud and engaging. I'm really looking forward to the game for the audio-visual experience and I'm sure it will be listed among the very best in the category.

The full game will be out in February, so expect another preview very soon and a detailed review when the game is launched.

Did hell just freeze over, or is someone going to get fired sometime soon? LOL. Good to hear that that he thinks it's going to be pretty good though. See people this is how us gamers should act!

MSN.com is completely unrelated to Microsoft's gaming division.

It's still interesting because it is a part of Microsoft.
