hmmm, at first when i read the name wolva-dia i felt that i had heard the name before, and when i said the name out loud i remebered something which led to this far fetched theory:

FF often use linked names (Tidus, Cloud, Squall etc) and I don't believe that xiii is an exeption e.g. snow villiers. snow = shiva and villiers = motorcycle (maybe, just a theory remember:P).

So how does Wolva-Dia fit into this pattern?

Well, Wolva-Dia made me think of Volvagia in Zelda the ocarina of time, who was a fire boss. this made me wonder if Wolva-Dia was connected to a fire summon of some kind.

if we then assume that everyone in your party (Vanilla, Lightning and Snow) has his/her own special summon then snow could have shiva, Wolva-Dia could have ifrit and lightning could have ixion in some form. then the name makes sense in a way i guess:P...

I like the theory apart from the fact that neither of her names sound anything like Ifrit/firey stuff, or any other summons I can think of. If you stretch it it could be an earth summon or something. And Zelda has nothing to do with FF :P

Well this just re sparked my interest in Final Fantasy XIII, the gameplay looks completely different from any other final fantasy game we've seen yay!

Is that confirmed? I figured that it could be her father/mother (she is a princess right? that would make the person king/queen) in there, and the female soldier seen in the castle scene may want to take over the throne instead of Vanilla. therefore the soldier banishes vanilla from cocoon, possibly by using her influence in the military, and frames her.

The character names have been given in the Western format.

Yeah. Every Final Fantasy game has character names in a Western format. They're never Japanese names. So Vanilla is her last name. It's because they're given in Katakana, not Kanji.

Looks as though the traditional form of battling is somewhat back. I can't really make out what is actually going on in the shots because it's a bit distorted and in Japanese. It looks interesting though, I'll say that for sure.

It's confirmed to be a party-based system, I'm guessing it's turnbased or you switch between characters with R1 and L1. It's a very simple battle menu. VERY simple. I like it, I assume it's that small and out of the way because they want you to watch the action happening in the actual battle.

There are numbers on the right of each tabs, every one of them has 1 except the bottom right which has a 3.

The bar on the bottom right of the screen seems to be Lightning and her heath. There's plenty of room for other characters (it's a one on one fight against the boss in these shots). The flag-type symbol next to Lightning's name is similar to the symbol they used in FFXII to denote the leader.

In the second and third screen you can see a bar above the enemy, possibly displaying its name and health.

It's safe to assume the chain system is nothing like FFXII's considering it's a boss battle and the chain goes up during the battle. I'm guessing you get attack boosts for the more attacks you chain together (7 chain- 122% damage for each hit).

In the first two scans one of the tabs is above the ATB, and it contains the same letters as one of the actions on the list. I assume when you choose actions that they get placed between the ATB and Help line.

You can see faded tabs to the left of the list of actions. That suggests that you can swap between lists.

There is a triangle symbol on the left of one of the tabs. Possibly a defend option?
