New Dengeki Playstation FFXIII Scans

FF7AC Reunion has posted some new FFXIII scans from the Japanese magazine Playstation covering Jump Festa and some new news from their interview with Mr Toriyama and Nomura! FF7AC Reunion talks about key points from the article which we can make a rough translation out of.

There has been peace between Pulse and Coocon for several hundred years but forces from Pulse have attacked Cocoon. Apparently the citizens of Cocoon believe the people of Pulse have been infected with a virus (which may be why they live in a floating city). There isn't much new information on the new characters except that the new character is named after some form of weather but do you remember the Jump Festa trailer analysis where the new character rides in on a motorbike? Have a look at the fifth scan and look closely at Shiva. It seems she can morph into a motorbike and you can attack while riding the bike! Also different elements can be applied to summons so maybe Shiva can use fire attacks.

Theres a little news about Versus to. One feature of the game is the ability to throw the sword and to teleport to where it is. At the moment the gameplay is apparently similar to Kingdom Hearts but it's still being developed and it's going to be taking full advantage of the Playstations 3's power. The new scans reveal some more images from the trailer at Jump Festa with our protagonist fighting off the soldiers without any trouble.

The scan does contain a new image of the Agito kid which confirms he's definatly the centre character with the cards in the artwork. According to the article this game could be released as early as Q4 2007. The pupils are in a class of 13 at a magic institute and it looks like it's their job to protect the crystal. Some new pictures of the school are featured in the scans. According to Nomura this game isn't to be seen any differently to any other FF game just because its on mobile phone. He says it should be seen as just like others in the series and it's even supposed to be 3D unlike Before Crisis. It's unsure what the ingame graphics will look like though unless they're similar to DoC: Lost Episode which is also 3D.

It's a lot of new news. At least they're keeping us up to date. The Versus Jump Festa looks really impressive and the teleport move sounds pretty cool. They're probably spying on you for ideas Desi :P but I'm sure there was a similar move in DMC3 where you teleported next to an enemy. Agito still isn't impressing me. I suppose that it's 3D is a plus but if it's similar to Lost Episode graphics it won't be worth playing.

The whole Shiva turning into a motorcycyle thing...I was sure the translator got it wrong but then I looked at the scan further and she has a wheel coming out of her...They must have been on something crazy when they thought up that. I wonder how it's gonna turn out...I just keep thinking of Transformers.

I've been looking around other Japanese sites who have the news and can actually read the scans, trying to find a slightly better translation. It looks like the Crystal is in Cocoon and not Pulse which wasn't clear before. Theres supposed to be some kind of "Foreign Material" or Virus outside Cocoon so the city seems like a utopia compared to Pulse. There are 2 sisters which form into the motorcycle like YY said also which I didnt notice from the scans but its pretty obvious now :P I still have no idea what that flying ship thing is in the same scan. I dont know if thats Cocoon from the outside or something completly different but this could be to do with it:

I'm going to begin updating the site with all the new info we've gained from Jump Festa this weekend after my first exam. Sorry for getting behind but I feel guilty if I dont study.

Sorry for the double post but theres no point starting a new topic on it.

IGN has summarised the new information from Playstation magazine in real English so we no longer have to rely on our poor translations but instead theirs!

We now have a confirmed background story on a lot of the aspects of the game. Pulse is feared by the people of Cocoon which we already knew but the reason is because anyone who comes in contact with it from Pulse are believed to be intruders and are banished. Anyone who has been in contact with Pulse are put under quarantine suspected of being infected by a virus which finally explains the train full of prisoners in the E3 trailer. The people of Pulse also have to deal with the threat of constant monster attack. Lightning actually doesn't remember her real name or much about herself but she was a high ranking official in some organisation (which we predicted from the glowing rank on her shoulder pad). She's well trained in many forms of combat with and without weapons and also with magic. The Shiva-bike is actually made up of two sisters which Shiva will be taking form of in this game.

Versus is also a little clearer now. The radio broadcast is talking about a peace treaty about the crystals which reside in the protagonists country. A long cold war has been revolved around these crystals and the treaty should end it. Nomura says that you won't have his impressive arsenal of weaponary all the way throughout the game which is a shame but he is aiming to get the game running on PS3 hardware this year.

i dont know but these games are starting to seem a bit gimmicky..i hope they end up being really great games..but im not shure i love the direction FF is going:( .....well atleast i have Lost Odyssey to look forward to for a really great story driven game.:nod:

I'm disapointed that she has amnesia and you won't have use of all the blue boy's weapons all the time. Hopefully there is a good reason why(like how in older games you had characters replacing eachother).

Amnesia does sound a bit cliche because its over used in TV, films and games but maybe theres good reason in this game. If the story fits around it well and theres actually some surprises in the game (unlike alot of XII's predicatable surprises) it could work out.

On another note, are these scans from Dengeki? The full title of the magazine is Dengeki Playstation and I think Dengeki translates into electric shock (which we've mentioned in previous news). They even have a link to the Dengeki website on the front cover of it. I'm sure the Japanese above PLAYSTATION must say Dengeki. Can anyone confirm this?

It didnt say that you wont be able to use all that guys weapons, it said you wont be able to use all of them at the outset of the game, which makes sense, you cant start a game off with a dozen or more weapons right?

The stories are always the same, if these developers want to get creative, why dont just let use be the bad guy trying to take over the world. and have multiple endings to the game, like when you actually take over the planet or destroy it, I would love to do that.

Reminds me of Corsair's from FFXI except they use semi-Blackjack(11 is perfect instead of 21). If they bust they take the negative effect of whatever they was trying to cast. So if a Corsair busted using "Chaos Roll" instead of gaining attack they would lose attack equal to how much they would have gained.
