Square-Enix want to Takeover Eidos

Square Enix are serious about cracking the Western market with games that don't include the words "Final" and "Fantasy". Want to know how serious? They just made a takeover bid for Eidos. Home to Lara Croft, Eidos have been in a financial pickle of late, and are already in takeover talks with Warner Bros. Square Enix making a run at them, though, is far more interesting.
Warner Bros are, according to those in the know, the front-runners to snag the deal. They already own 20% of Eidos, making a takeover purchase a cheap one. But Square can't be counted out.
Square boss Yoichi Wada has already popped in for tea and biscuits at Eidos-owned IO Interactive (Hitman, Kane & Lynch), and will be flying back to the UK soon to "move the deal forward".

It's a business. Trends in gaming change and they have to change with it. Making an FPS isn't going to affect you at all. How about just not buying it?

Also if they did by some miracle acquire Eidos, it wouldn't be Square-Enix making the games. Eidos would just be their subsidiary. Barely anything would change.

I would not mind this,as CD(crystal dynamics)canot make a tomb raider game woth anything....the people who like tomb raider now are pretty stupid and are glad that the games are ment for 2 year olds(their brains)

I think that square enix could add some actual length to the game and maybe give it a difficulty and bring up the graphics a notch:)

The stupidity of people on the internet grows everyday. It doesnt take a genius to understand that takeover and merger are two different things. But no, stupid claims about Tomb Raider RPG and Dissidia Legacy of Kain all around the place.

On topic: good move by SE, they need to go outside of their jRPG-only camp and taking over Eidos is a good opportunity, although it most likely wont happen since WB and EA are involved. It is, anyway, a good sign, jRPG genre has become completely niche and moves like this will save the company from going down in future.

I had no idea that people actually thought this. I mean, ever since Sakaguchi and Uematsu left, I've personally felt that they've gone downhill. I see Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII as possible saving graces, but I can't name a Square game I've enjoyed since Final Fantasy X (discluding remakes, haha).

But either way, I don't see the Eidos takeover as a bad thing. As people have said, it's not a merge. It probably won't make a difference to Square games. When they took over Taito, did Square start bringing in Bubble Bobble Fantasy? If there is a change in what Square Enix makes, there might even be less cashcow remakes, considering they'll be earning more money and all.

I can see how people do not like Final Fantasy XII, but in IMO it was a mighty good game. The Last Remnant has it's technical flaws, but is overall a fun game to play. TWEWY was something new and different, etc.

Sakaguchi was once the heart of SE, but in his last years he didn't do many things right. He was not very involved in FF X, the best tracks in FF X were not composed by Uematsu etc. I think Sakaguchi/Uematsu did great things at Square, but I'm happy to see new talents.
