Yes, Finally!

Playstation 3 Trophies Mandatory Strarting January 2009

"A leak from Europe has claimed, and several sources have confirmed, that starting in January of 2009 all PlayStation 3 games will be required to support Trophies. Word of the initial leak (http://www.videogamer.com/news/20-11-2008-9989.html) came from VideoGamer.com, which cited an anonymous tip from someone in the UK game industry. Later, a representative of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe confirmed the information. We still weren't sure, however, what the mandate actually meant for old games.

Today VideoGaming247 reports (http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/11/21/uk-dev-source-we-cant-check-game-saves-to-add-trophies-retroactively-jan-1-cut-off-confirmed/) that the rule only applies to new products, which means only games that are submitted for approval after January 1, 2009. In other words, if a game is submitted for approval in December but releases in January, no Trophies will be required. It also doesn't apply to old games, as the decision to patch in Trophy support is still being left up to publishers. We've heard mixed messages (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168517) about this in the past, but it seems now that Trophy support being on a case-by-case basis for older games is the standard.

Trophies arguably haven't really become the institution that Achievements are for Xbox 360 owners -- after all, who ever heard of a "Trophy Whore"? Hopefully by making them standard operating procedure for the foreseeable future, more addiction-prone gamers will latch onto them, especially once they're supported through Home."

This means FFXIII and FFvsXIII will have Trophies, woot!

This is stupid. That's about the only thing coming about this, and I don't see why you would be glad FFXIII and Versus are being added into the trophy system. I play Final Fantasy games for the story, character development, brilliant art, and being able to share the fun with fellow Final Fantasy fans. Not for saying "hay gaiz look at my number of timez ai watched the shiva twins morph into the bike and Snow sit on one of their faces and how I got a plat for that!" Another fault to bring down games with good names, oh joy... <_<

Jesus christ, calm down! I've never seen anyone get so pissed off about trophies being in a game.

Trophies aren't "bringing games with good names down", what an idiotic thing to say.

I don't see anything wrong with this, some people like collecting trophies, and if they do, good for them. o_o; It's just going to be a simple add on anyways, isn't going to add months to game development or anything.

I don't care either way, but I'm sure that people that want them will enjoy this.

I don't really care about trophies, but I don't mind getting them. I got my first trophy in LittleBigPlanet a week or two ago, and I wanted to go check out what it was. xD Extra objectives in a game sounds good to me, it'll expand the lifespans of some games quite a bit.

Did you put this in the wrong section by accident or something?

I think the idea of trophies is great for games, it gives people more of an edge to do everything in the game. Most people just play the story and quit. Now I did do everything in most FF games but I didn't get a trophy saying that I did do it. :/

First, you pretty much already had things like this in FF. Like in XII, you had to kill so many to of a beast to unlock more info.

Tell me how that is so much more different from killing so many kinds of beasts to get a trophy.

The trophy is not that important, and neither is the random info they give you about the beast.

Two can play the game of idiots, but I really don't care about trophies much personally. My *OPINION* was that I think it's stupid. If it floats other people's boats, whatever, some people like competition more than I do, so what.

What I was pertaining to, which, Inferio Nocte has worded better than I have, is that games like the Final Fantasy series already have a self-rewarding system, and generally speaking most of the Final Fantasy fans usually make an effort to get to a point to want to finish the game and see a lovely ending cut-scene. Although I do know a couple people who are diffent and actually prefer to just beat the last boss, and consider that "beating the game". Again, Whatever floats your boat, not my business. I just don't want to see games that have priceless experiences and entertainment value defaced and soiled merely for the 1-upping pissing contest some players will most definitely participate in to "get the most trophies". Hypocritial? Yes. My *OPINION*? Definitely.

I seriously question your reading comprehention skills, your mental maturity, and your moderator status as you definitely can't seem to accept people's opinions.

Love Achievements, love trophies, this is a good thing. I have no idea why but I try to collect as many in every game I can. It's fun. It adds replay value and I don't see why anyone has an issue with it.

Shouldn't this be in General Gaming?

Anyways, I like the idea BUT I don't like the fact that it kinda sounds like SONY is forcing game developers to do something. Trophies gives you something to play for and/or bragging rights ya know?
So I like the idea all in all.

How exactly does adding trophies "deface" a game though? All it does it add more for you to do when you're finished with the main storyline. I don't see how that can ruin a game or make you so angry, calm it down :wtf:

You started your post in this thread with "This is stupid".

Oh, thanks I'll work on that. I'd never be able to get through my degree without your wisdom <3

your moderator status as you definitely can't seem to accept people's opinions.

You can have whatever opinion you like, it doesn't mean I have to think it's right. I can say or think whatever I like as well. And what's me being an admin got to do with anything? Does it mean Im meant to kiss your ass? You've certainly some to the wrong place for that :aldo:

Sheesh people.

Never done the 360 thing nor do I have a PS3, but I do so love to collect little shiny things in video games. Why? I don't know. It just brings me happiness to see my shiny, totally pointless rewards for finishing all there is to finish. Guess I'm a checklist girl.

I for one would be happy to see trophies go into SE games. I tend to 100% them anyway, and it's not like I take out a game to look at the completed checklists once I've finished and shelfed it, so it would be cool to be able to line up /all/ my 100%s from all the SE PS3 releases (here's to hoping there's more than just 13 and Versus) and keep them somewhere together. I think that would please my 100% completion OCD very much. XD

If I end up with a 360, I imagine I'd enjoy achievements for SE games just the same. Mandatory for PS3? Too bad, suck it up, developers. It can't be that hard to find a way to stick one lame trophy in there somewhere if they don't want to cater to the system more. All they have to do is throw one in for completing the game, yeah? Or is there more depth required than that?

I think it'll be a nice extra and also something nice to stumble on. Its no different to the pirates den in FF12, it wouldve probably been on FF13 and versus anyway now its just official and is present in trophy format. If you dont care for it it wont mess up your game, simple.

Cool, im all for the trophies. I think it will make the enjoyment of the game that much better, could give me a boost to finish the game 100% for once XD.

I think that Trophies are a good thing. For some people who have both a PS3 and a 360,They might decide to get the 360 version of a game because it has Achievements. With future PS3 games getting Trophies,It means it could be a tough decision for those gamers now. Also, It will give the PS3 gamers the chance to rent very easy games so they can get the Trophies.:P I don't think FFXIII getting Trophies is a bad thing. Mircosoft is forcing Square Enix to give their version Achievements anyways.

I don't think that people should base buying a game for one system or another just because of achievements or trophies. If they were to have both systems for the game then they should just get based off which system they feel would play the game to the best of their expectations. But that's just how I'd choose which system to play a game on. Like trying to decide if you wanna play GoW on Computer or XBOX360 when the computer will be a sweeter graphical play of the game where the rest is essentially the same. I think achievements and the PS3 equivalent is just a way for people to increase their E-peen sizes just that little bit extra, when they mean nothing at all.
