View Full Version : Question about the damn Xbox 360

Alright lately I have been really considering buying the 360 for exclusive games because SE gots something up there ass.
Question: Should I buy a 20GB or the Arcade?
I will NOT pay microsoft for XBL, just saying that now. I was thinking about the Arcade but i'm not sure how I would save my game if there is no hard drive?
Can you give me some feedback and your thoughts please?
I will also NOT buy an Elite, its 20GB or Arcade.
Thanks!

This is just me but if you're not willing to pay LIVE then don't buy it
If you're just going to buy it for the RPG's then stick with the PS3 if you have one because most of the RPG's that are coming out on the Xbox will eventually come out on the PS3
If you don't have the patience to wait then don't buy a 20gb or an arcade, buy an elite and if you don't want an elite go for a 20gb:awesome:

SE is supporting XBOX360 a lot but actually there isnt a good SE RPG on 360. The only advantage in buying( if you already have a ps3) a 360 for SE games is that you can play The last remnant earlier and Star Ocean 4 earlier too.
Of course there are another big games for 360...

Go ahead and buy a 20gb, even though you think you might not want to get XBL you might change your mind :V (i`m not trying to advertise or acting like a xb fangirl or anything on those lines but even though xb is the PS3 rival it still pretty good ^_^)

With the arcade version you need to buy memory cards, 20gb you don't. Thats pretty much the only difference.

I do understand that XBL is better, but the PSN network is on the rise and is free, I don't think it is right to charge people to use there internet, its pretty supid. I am not making a decision on buying this until I know for sure that S04 is exclusive.

You have to buy the wireless internet attachment to use the XBL anyways. It's like $50. Unless you're going to play online with someone it's not worth it. You're better off sticking to the PSN

If you are not going to pay for Xbox LIVE, don't purchase the system. LIVE is what makes the Xbox 360 a great entertainment platform. It is only $50 a year which is nothing considering how much you pay for other things in a day or month. Fanboys typically go on the "But PSN is Free" argument which while true, you get what you paid for. They also state "PSN is catching up," which isn't entirely true. While Playstation Network is starting to gain some Xbox 360 LIVE features, the platform hasn't quite reached the Original Xbox LIVE feature level. As PSN adds new features that is taken for granted on LIVE but precious to PSN, Microsoft adds new features to LIVE. NXE (New Xbox Experience) is going to transfer the platform in way never though possible, it will be almost a new gaming system to users who have even owned the platform for a long time.
If you want to buy an Xbox 360, buy it for the LIVE Experience or don't buy it at all as it is a waste of money. Look, I rarely ever play any console, but I purchased LIVE so that I could get the full experience of the 360. Playing on both experiences, I can say they both have their ups and downs but the Xbox 360's online is much more enjoyable (with friends, of course).
*I am in no way attempting to persuade you or make the Xbox 360 sound good. I do not care for the console war and could care less about what happens for it, however I do hate fanboys and false facts. Just remember that Xbox 360 has a better online service and should be bought for that purpose, the Playstation 3 should be bought if you are someone who isn't looking for the full online experience or just want Blu-Ray :P.

I'm honestly not too sure about the changes they're going to be implementing to XBL soon. The avatars look a bit too... Nintendo to me. I wish they were a bit more versatile
Buy a basic model 360 and an external to save your games. My brother did that and it's perfectly fine. Cheaper, I believe, too.
dxgirly
Sep 13 2008, 01:55 AM
I actually don't think you can save games to an external harddrive on the 360. I don't think they're compatible or the system will recognize to save them. I've tried it with mine before to no success. All you can do is store media on it and then play the media on the 360. I think. Unless I was doing something wrong

Thanks for the move whoever did it, I wasn't exactly sure what forum to put it in.
The reason I started this thread to ask you guys about this is because well honestly, I am so SICK of ths war between Sony and Microsoft.
I will ALWAYS hate how microsoft makes there products but when they are getting mostly all the good games I am starting to have no choice because I really want to play some of the games.
I will always back sony but S04 is the last straw for me, I may finally pull back my pride and invest in the 360 so I can enjoy all games. (Except Wii because all I like is Brawl)
I will not pay for XBL, and I live in the middle of nowhere with satellite internet so PSN and XBL would just be pointless anyways. So I am thinking about getting the 360 for exclusives.

Sep 13 2008, 03:46 AM
I honestly don't back any for the reason you stated. Just so I can enjoy games no matter what platform they're put out on. :D

Umm how many times does this need to be said..you dont need to pay for LIVE unless you want to play online...i dont get the sense that you mean on playing online anyway since aprently you are interested in RPG's *ZING!..if you want play your games online, then use your ps3 and go on PSN....--get the 60GB system (its the $300 dollar one) and enjoy - also, change that attitude, its sorta rediculous
Just to help u decide here are some pointers
XBL Silver account is 90% feature complete or so, basically everything except for online play and picture mesaging is there and maybe a couple other features i dont care for and therefor u probably wont either, and you have to wait 1 week for new demos..big deal
You get your first month free anyway..
now, the Arcade comes with a 56 or so MB memory card, but that fills up quickly, and besides, you WILL want to download game DLC, theme's, gamerpictures (some of wich are free now and then), trailers and demos from the marketplace, ..so it is necessary for you to have a Hardrive. if you buy an arcade and then change your mind, the HDD will cost you almost the difference anyway, so just get the pro console (im not shure where you live and if the 60GB is available or not, but thats on you)
so think about it..you can ask me if you have more questions
I kinda gave up on Infinite Undiscovery, it just looks too lame and short for my money...get Tales of Vesperia, surprisingly great game, my first Tales and love it dearly.

Alright well maybe over time you might see the 360 is actually a great console..faults aside, naturally...maybe you just dislike Microsoft, but i understand that, i hate Sony but i love PS1 and 2...and im not a big Microsoft fan either sometimes lol
If you have more questions feel free to ask

Sep 13 2008, 04:52 AM
Is it better to keep the 360 horizontally or vertically? Should I get a cooler fan? and also any tips on how to avoid the problems with the system?
Xion
Sep 13 2008, 04:58 AM
Vertical- It was actually designed to sit that way (and looks much cooler that way anyway) more of the console is exposed to air that way too...DO NOT buy a cooler fan...as for Problems..well its like with any console..you should take care of it..
Do Not move the Console with a disc inserted (Duh)
Do Not place the console in an enclosed Space - Keep it well ventilated and in a cool, sturdy and flat surface
i mean its pretty much common sense...if youre getting one now, then you should have much less to worry about system failures. but ofcourse in the case that you do have a problem, its 1 year warranty for disc drive errors, and 3 years for RROD should you experience it. The fix is completely free

lol, its not right? well thats life my friend, more people play XBL and pay than PSN and its free LOL. Making us pay for internet use is like paying for text messaging..... they will charge for whatever they can.

Just get a 20gig 360 if you're going to get one. I don't care for 360 or M$ but if you want it go for it, and like a recent poster (forgot who and to lazy to look) said if it's for the RPGs then just wait since several titles will be moving to the ps3 eventually. But it's up to you and they're cheaper then ps3 but the 360 does have some major glitches it needs to sort out, but honestly go for it just to have the variety, if it shits on you the first month or week then don't bother I say.

Sep 14 2008, 05:43 AM

Sep 14 2008, 06:11 AM
Well it's either that or just certain people got a good 360. One thing that kinda bothers me about the 360 is when you get the red ring thing they charge you $100 to get it fixed, I think that's ridiculous in my opinion
dxgirly
Sep 14 2008, 06:13 AM
Do they really? I thought it was covered under manufacturer's warranty for 3 years?

Apparently the red ring isn't.

Sep 14 2008, 07:02 AM
NO..you are coverd for RROD for 3 YEARS..any other failures its 1 year. And the machines on the shelves now are pretty reliable.
If you dont really know what you are talking about its best to ask for information instead of giving erroneous info out please
As for RPG's Moving over..well its simple..you either get the system with pretty much all of them, or you dont and see which of those games you get lucky with....he allready has a PS3, so he's covered there..the 360 is pretty cheap, and almost couldnt have more reasons to own one...so why not.
I know i sound very Pro-Choice, but i dont understand why anyone would NOT recomend a 360 to someone at this point. Everyone knows the Cons, but many people love to discredit the Pros, as usual, and its stupid that i have to be the one allways giving this info out, stuff that everyone should know.

My friend has a 360, has had for a while. I don't think there are many problems unless you have really overly-long gaming sessions on the thing or at least thats what he tells me.
Thats why he got a PS3 for longer games like FFXIII as well, he doesn't trust them not to break his machine... plus he said the idea of playing an FF on a 360 feels as icky as incest or something
Sundance Kid
Sep 14 2008, 11:31 AM
hahaha that's a funny comparison, but yeah it sucks that it over heats pretty easily from playing for long periods of time.

If you get one, be sure to take care of it. I always cover mine with a shirt when not in use to protect from dust. Hey you never know when it will strike. :cunning:
@Xion- I call BS. My friend got an RRoD about a month ago
Sundance Kid
Sep 14 2008, 01:58 PM
Oh and another thing IF you get a 360 don't move it while there's a disc in there, even a little bit, it will or can get stuck and you have to open it up and if I'm not mistaken once you or anyone outside of MS opens it up the warranty is gone but yeah like Allen said take care of it because 360's tend to heat up easily and dust makes it that much worse.
Xion
Sep 14 2008, 05:18 PM
Yeah i actually said that last page, to not move the console with a disc in it...also Allen, it all depends on wether his console was newly manufactured or not. Besides i never said it was impossible to get RROD with a new machine, its just much less likely...my console is over 1 year old and i play it for hours and hours at a time sometimes with no heatproblems, just my POS disc drive that fails on me sometimes...im actually waiting on a RROD to send it in, since im still covered..if it gets close to expiring without getting it ill induce it myself..hehe
Shana..feel free to add but i dont play online much at all, and while i may get Fable 2 i dont think i would play it online either. But i dont mind having you on my friends list.

Hey Zezlar. I'm not sure where you're located, but if you really think you may need an Xbox 360 to satisfy your gaming needs, head on over to a GameStop, they just started a sale on all three models.

Yeah, because the Xbox 360's Hardware quality is horrible. I've been through twelve (I'm on my third set of four). Although I can't blame three of the broken Xbox 360's on the lack of quality in the hardware, but the others I can.
Every time I call Microsoft's support, they are like "why don't you send it into us" and I'm like "because I'll get a refurbished system."
Anyways, enough bashing on the quality of Hardware, the later models of the Xbox 360, namely, the Elite Console, has good hardware. When purchasing, check the back and take a look at the manufacture date, try to get something after or during April 2008. If you can, purchase an Elite as an Elite's Hardware actually is of higher quality than the Premiums and Arcades SKUs. With the other SKUs, I recommend purchasing on a manufacture date after May 2008 and buy warranty.
P.S. Xion, don't get into a long speech about this, it's the truth and you know it, even with how much you seem to love the Xbox 360.
Xion
Sep 15 2008, 02:20 AM
I do love the Xbox, because it is a great gaming console
Actually i beleive systems manufactured since late 07 are not bad, i dont think there has been any major revision since then so it may be pointless to worry about getting a system any date later than that, and even if- there is no reason to purchase a warranty as everyone is covered for 3 years for RROD from the purchase date. besides, its unlikely to get a machine manufactured before 08 off the shelf now, seeing as it is LATE 2008..also the Elite's are not (to my understanding) any diferent from the others at this point..the first machine to have new hardware was actually the Halo one. All of the machines have the same guts in them now.
You actually really should send your machines in..they will give you either the same one you sent in with new guts, or another one with new guts. Eitherway, you get a machine with new guts inside it. Its pointless to NOT take advantage of the free refurbish, since you do get a 3 year warranty for the one you get back (i beleive, so dont quote me on that)..besides, it just doesnt make sense to keep a broken machine if you can have it fixed or replaced for free.
Oh and not to be a pain and dont take it the wrong way, but please do not say this kind of thing of me again..
"P.S. Xion, don't get into a long speech about this, it's the truth and you know it, even with how much you seem to love the Xbox 360."
Just because i love the 360 doesnt mean that i will not speak on its faults as a machine, or defend it past its merrits. I will speak my mind but allways with a bed of facts as far as my understanding will allow. So Please, dont get the wrong idea, or come up with some conclusion of how i will respond sparky.

Unfortunately, you are incorrect, the ones manufacture in late 2007 do not have the smaller processor and thus, much more heat is produced. The ones manufactured in and around March/April 2008 actually do. And, you may not be aware but the systems contain different parts, when you purchase an Elite, you have a higher chance of getting the best of the three (may be four now) of the set of hardware put into the system.
As for you second paragraph, when you buy a new system, you do not want a refurbished one back if the new one broke. Refurbished is basicly it was faulty and they fixed it, thus, giving you a higher chance of hardware failure. And it does make sense not to take advantage of it, especially when you have Best Buy's warranty so if it should break, you can take it in and they give you a new one.
Xion
Sep 15 2008, 02:50 AM
Well if you do have a warranty then thats great, go and get a new machine from the store. I was speaking in the case that you dont.
The new chips were put in earlier this year and truly they would be cooler, but the biggest cause of the mass failures was the heatsinks and that has been fixed since 07 along with the cooler 65NM CPU in fall 2007, so systems after that point are more reliable too. I beleive the shrunk the GPU in 08, but that doesnt make all that much of a difference, its just makes an ok system a bit cooler. Now, if you go to the store today to buy a NEW console, its not likely that you will get a system manufactured before 2008, so its not something you really need to worry about. You should however look at the manufacture date of your system tho, and generaly speaking, the closer date, is the best bet.
I tend to edit my posts when i make a big one Sparky, so sometimes i revise my statements a bit, but the jist is all the same. people getting a new console now have much less to worry about. If i were still working i would get a new machine for myself..ugh, damn you dumb managers

Sep 15 2008, 11:20 AM
hmm i'm probably going to get one sometime next year but it all depends on if i'm actually going to play it. It's a great system don't get me wrong, but i've played the "Big" titles so far already so i don't know what i would be getting it for, specially when ps3 has quite afew big games coming out soon so i'm going to be spending most of my time and money on them.
I personally wouldn't get it for rpgs honestly cuz they are mostly average. Other than SO4 and Mass effect i don't see anything amazing. I think you need to think it through and make a list of games you would like to play on it. If you buy one for just rpgs then don't come back making a new thread saying "Omg 360 sucks" because that's your own fault.
Some good games would be:
GeoW1/2
Halo3
Mass effect
Bioshock
SO4
Warrior's orochi1/2 (multi-plat but it has great graphics on the 360)
DoA
NG1/2 (Sigma is also good on the ps3)
Fable2 (i'm not a fan but you might like it)
well these are the games that came to my mind right now, but there are more. If you do your research in advance, then you might just enjoy the system "that" much more.

I just picked up my Xbox 360 yesterday from a super walmart near here. I got to say I acctually am starting to gain some respect for microsoft. The console is quite nice and the controller is very comfortable. It does take two double A batteries which sucks, but just pick up some rechargeables and your set! I still prefer my PS3 dual shock 3 but still I am very pleased with the 360. The only problem that I really have with my 360 is that it is somewhat loud, but its not THAT loud...my TV drowns it out.
For any hardcore fanboys out there. I really advise you to pick up BOTH Sonys Playstation 3 and Microsofts Xbox 360. You can play all the good games not just a selection.
Also on the topic of Infinite Undiscovery, I am acctually quite pleased with the game. It does have a few flaws like the no blocking, menu in real time, and the characters have bad lip syncing. Other than that the game is acctually quite fun and not boring at all. Pick it up if you can but at least give this game a rent!
I still prefer my Playstation 3, but now I can play all games, I advise all of you to make the right choice. As far as the wii goes, I will never dish out $250 for that console.
Proud PS360 Owner!

Hey Xion my 360 was made on July 10th 2008, is it good that it was made more recently? Does that mean that it has less of a chance of dieing?

I dont know, it isnt a launch console (Obviously) so it is less liklely of dying on that fact alone..dont worry about that, just enjoy

I'd worry if my gaming console I just bought would have a chance of dying soon after purchase

No its just the ongoing assumption that an Xbox 360 must die reguardless of how new it is..i mean the 360's prone to RROD are older models that are still circulating, and failing as we all know. However, this young man just bought a recently manufactured console, and mines is over a year older than his and has no RROD defect, his chances are that much less.
I really just think eveyone should get it out of there head that 360 = RROD, because its just not really the case anymore. When we can get to talking about the system without the whole debacle coming up, i think it will make it easier to discuss the positives of the system and the games themselves. :)

Yeah it's going to change the interface completely, it actually looks alright, much better than what the blades look like now, they're pretty out dated. It adds these ghey little Mii rip off things as well.

The Xbox 360 arcade is like a car without a steering wheel - pointless. You pretty much need a HDD.

Does anyone know how I enter my Preorder bonus codes into the 360? I'm not exactly sure yet, so could someone help me out.

because we just got the new dash, i cant point you directly to it right now, but i can tell you enter the guide and look for your profile, or account....and look for where the "redeem Code" option is.

After finally having the console for like 6 months or so, I got a chance to tinker around the live for a little while. My GOD kids on there are annoying as BALLS!!!!!!! *phew, now thats out of the way* I got to say I was a little suprised on what I seen. I did like the TV shows and movies on Live but I was also dissapointed on the TV shows considering you can just go online and watch them for free.
I was a little annoyed on how unorganized it was (at least to me) It just seemed like it took forever to what you wanted to get to, but nothing horendous.
Do I think the service is good? Hell Yeah
Do I think the service is worth paying money for? Hell no
PSN or Live? PSN preferably, but Live is nowheres near bad, I just have a few problems with it.

I know, I hate navigating the fucking NXE. I cycle through it like six times until I finally find where the game launch thing is. rofl.

Navigating the NXE is like navigating a pornstars anus, you're bound to get lost before some cock starts jabbing at you forcing you into some place you don't want to be. And before you know it, bang, you're in your mii's page changing his bling and facial features which you don't actually give a shit about.
Five minutes later you find your game and you're so disturbed by the whole ordeal you just want to crawl underneath your covers and cry.
I do enjoy the xbox360 however.

I liked my xbox360 more pre NXE. The only good thing was the install feature. I hate the fucking avatars. Even Miis looks better.

I really hope Sony keeps Avatars in Home. I do NOT want an avatar on my PS3 XMB screen.
