View Full Version : Is FFVII really worth THAT much?

So I was randomly scouring eBay and came upon bids on Used 'Black Label' Complete copies going for $50+??? Is the game really worth that much now? I got mine for like $10 at EBGames like 7 or 8 years ago.

Did anyone here recently new to the fandom actually spend that much?

No. I got connections to a cheap FFVII. :cunning: $50 That's how much new games are basically. Just basically.

I did some googling and I guess sealed copies have gone for $200-250??? I mean thats just kind of ridiculous

Fans are pretty stupid. "Buy it while you can!!!!!" and then the price stays the same instead of cheaper. Not to mention, when people do buy FFVII these days, they usually accidentally drop it or damage it some way (on accident, of course).

You could start a good business buying them for cheap and selling them at that price.

It's not worth it. I got my FFVII by downloading the PC version from the internet. So really you can illegally download it instead of paying.

ffvii imo just needs to die out already, they are clinging on to that game and i am personally sick of ffvii, they need to remake it so the fans will get what they want and then they need to close the ffvii games for good and move on to newer FF

and yea i illegally downloaded my version off FFVII also, and will do the same for 13 on my 360 =]

I still have my FF7 in mint condition except for the case, but seriously DO NOT pay 50+ for it. Just get a PS1 emulator on your PC and pirate it. Free! :D

If I didn't collect the games I'd sell it for profit!

It's a great game, but it's definitely not worth 50 big ones. IIRC, I got mine at a Game Stop before they decided to take all the PS1 games off the shelves, and it was only $7.00. :aldo:

I got mine from my brother who bought it second hand the year after it was released. I think he payed about $35-40 for it back then.

dude what's it to you? If you're sick of it then you don't have to play any of its games or talk about it. Just go cling on w/e makes you happy.

It's definately worth it IMO. You're paying the same amount as a ps3 game so why all the fuss? It's a great game to collect so just buy it when you get some money.

She means, "Does it really cost that much???" She already mentioned that she has a copy herself for about $10 and that she was looking it up on eBay. -_-

Well, to all the crazy fans, it is worth that much. I remember paying $10 a few years ago for it...but it seems the price has gone up since then.

I may have to fork over $50, though, after moving it seems as if all my Final Fantasies went missing and if I can't find them I'd want to rebuild my collection. :\

I agree completely. If you don't enjoy FF7, then leave the game alone. IMO, FF7 is the greatest video game ever created. It is a true technological masterpiece. IMO, it is also the epitamy of what a true RPG should be like. I'm not tired of all of the things related to that masterpiece coming out. The characters and the adventures they went through still remains unbelievably strong more than a decade after its creation.....Very few games, if any, holds the bearings of FF7.

As long as Square continues to push 7, I will continue to buy and be satisfied. Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa, Yuffie, Cait Sith, Red XIII, Cid, Vincent, Barret, and Aeris have all become household names. I got plenty of friends who complain how much they hate Final Fantasy and all RPGs......yet they are still able to pick and name Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa, Aeris, and Barret at the drop of a hat.

Why let a great game die just because a few people are getting sick of seeing it. If there are people out there willing to pay for it, then Square should keep making it. Correct me if I'm wrong.....but there are plenty of people out there willing to keep buying into the Final Fantasy 7 franchise.

It's really not that much it think, i mean its ebay so ovbiouly the price would go up cause lots of people would by it. To much would be like a starting of price of $200+.

I guess my copy was £20-£30, cant remember exactly.

I got really lucky on Ebay, £5! Plus p&p £7.50 but that's still cheap. Obviously not mint sealed or whatever, but it worked perfectly. I saw a bundle not too long ago with VII and VIII for like £35, too.

I just played it on my PSP. It was a pretty good experience, actually. The only problem was that I couldn't close my PSP while playing it... I think the only problem I encountered the entire game was not being able to use the cheat to make your chocobo really fast during races. You had to press all the shoulder buttons simultaneously, and it didn't work for me. =(

I think FFVII is worth it because it's a classic and it depends on the person really. I would buy it cuz I'm a passionate fan of FFVII and I would love to have it also for the fact it was a milestone in the FF Franchise as well, it being the first FF to feature 3D cutscenes ^_^. Even if a remake was ever done, PS1 FFVII will still remain a classic for a long time to come, regardless if the possible remake is good or not :).

I'd get it at Gamestop if I could(which I did, if I recall right). If I had to use Ebay as a last resort, I'd try and find profiles with a Buy It Now..Which should have it at a at least generally good price, even if it were the old, original selling price..At least you wouldn't't be suckered into paying more then you should have to for it.

----The only Pink Godzilla in the world. :aldo: Retro gaming store. If they don't got it, then it's nowhere. NES, older systems, PS games, import games, ... You name it. I've seen the entire FF series there and the Japanese version of FFIV before the English version's release date.

FFVII isn't THAT rare, I would have thought. I got mine from Amazon for about £10. Brand new, and sealed (though it did get a crack in the case from the post). It was the platinum edition, though.

----It's rare to come across in person. Also, it wouldn't be cheap. Dx Even it's $50 at Pink Godzilla.

Which is why it was awesome that I found a copy with instruction book intact a few years ago, at the same used game store that I had been scouring for at least a year just to find that one game.

Yeah, I don't online purchase. ^^;

Kind of bummed it's just a greatest hits case, but who cares, I have it now.

Funny thing recently is that I just discovered the potential of flee markets for this kind of stuff (if you don't mind games with cracked cases, scratches, etc.). A guy was asking a clerk if she 'still had that copy of FFVII' and if she had ever found the third disc to it. When she said no, he was still willing to buy it from her. Crazyness.

It's a nice game to have for milestone sake, but I thought it'd have more replay value.

Why not? If I had made a new topic. You probably would have said "There is already a thread like this" and closed it.

Tch, I'm not stopping you, I just said, don't bump old threads. If you keep doing that, we're gonna be fed up. Hell, I don't care if this thread is active again. Just don't bump more old threads if it's not worth discussing.

I work in a store that buys and sells used cd's dvds and games. We sell it for $60. But there are games that we sell for so much more. Try the first couple old Suikodens,Shining Forge, Lunar,The Persona games, or Valkarie Profile to name a few. It's not just RPGs, look up Marbvel vs Capcom 2. yeah you can emulate them all. I just like to own copies of all my stuff so i buy them. If you're a serious gamer and you want physical copies of old school jazz, you'll ber forking over some serious samoleans to complete your collection.

My copy od FFVII was stolen when I was stolen. Luckily a friend sold me his for 20 bones^_^

I recently purchased VII and VIII to replace to dodgy copies I have (mixed disks, badly damaged, some missing). I got mine from the UK for 20 quid each ($30 USD roughly), not cheap but they are in near mint condition, perfect for my collection.

If I ever feel like playing them again I'll just dig out my chipped PS1 and play my pirated versions.

Now, if only I could find a PAL copy of Star Ocean 2nd story :(

Usually being quite capitalist, it is strange for this to come out of my mouth. I am not opposed to emulation being used as a method to obtain old games that are no longer in production. The reason why I am not opposed to obtaining these old games "illegally" is because they are no longer being sold by the developer. Yes, I agree with purchasing the title legally to support the developer (Which is why I am strictly opposed to piracy of recently released games), but they won't get any money off of these re-sells of old games that they aren't making anymore.

That's a major reason why I'm not a fan of Gamestop. I try to buy all my games new because I hate buying them used. If I'm paying for a game, I want it to go to the developer and publisher, not solely a re-reseller.

Anyway, yeah, the perceived value of FFVII is something like $50 now. Surprising, considering it's popularity. I'd expect it to run something like $150, but it's probably just extremely common.

man where i live NEW games cost like $90

let's do some maths though

if you've never played ff7 before i'd say it has a value of about 12-fold the games that are considered good right now.

new game in usa: $50*12=$600

ff7 is worth six hundred dollars

Of coarse it would. i mean its not even sold in stores anymore like Gamestop, walmart, ect. So the answer to this question would be yes. Of coarse you can find it cheaper if it was the greatest hits. MAYBE! I'm just guessing here.
This game hasn't been sold in stores in years. To be more descriptive, PS1 games haven't been sold in stores in years since the ps3 came out. But notice there are still ps2 games out there being sold in stores. so yea. its expensive. I was looking for a copy of one of the FF games for super nintendo, and it was 300$ that was the cheapest on ebay.
the prices get higher the longer the game has been out and even more if they dont sell them anymore.
