Not sure it has been posted but yeah....

Microsoft slashes price of Arcade model to around $183 across the Pacific--almost $50 cheaper than Nintendo's console.

This summer saw a spate of rumors which had Microsoft slashing prices of all three Xbox 360 models (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6195416.html) starting September 7. In a week, North American gamers will know whether those rumors were true, although they have been apparently confirmed by leaked scans of retail flyers (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6196456.html). Today, at a Tokyo media event, Microsoft announced that it is slashing the prices of all three of its Xbox 360 models…in Japan. Starting on September 11, the 120GB Elite will go from ¥47,800 (about $441*) to 39,800 ($368) and the newly 60GB Pro will go on sale for ¥29,800 ($275)--¥5,000 ($46) less than its 20GB predecessor.
Most significantly, however, is the price cut of the hard drive-free Xbox 360 Arcade, which will see a drastic drop from ¥27,800 ($257) to ¥19,800 ($183). Besides becoming the first of the current-generation consoles to break the psychological ¥20,000 ($185) barrier, it will also undercut the Nintendo Wii's ¥25,000 ($231) cost by ¥5,200 ($48). The standard-issue 80GB PlayStation 3 costs PlayStation 3 for ¥39,800 ($368) in Japan.
Microsoft's move comes after a largely unsuccessful (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6141064.html) near-two-year courtship of the Japanese market. Despite enlisting such high-profile Japanese developers as Q Entertainment founder Tetsuya Mizuguchi (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6121414.html) and Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6141576.html) to make exclusives, the 360 has lagged far behind the Wii and the PS3 in terms of sales.
However, the August 7 release of Namco Bandai's 360-exclusive role-playing game Tales of Vesperia caused the system to sell out last month, according to a (translated) Microsoft Japan announcement (http://tinyurl.com/6x77qg). Microsoft also convinced Square Enix to develop several 360 JRPGs (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6192352.html), including the exclusive Infinite Undiscovery, and to make the formerly PS3-only Final Fantasy XIII multiplatform (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6193730.html). GameSpot's recent interview (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6197053.html) with former Kojima Productions developer Ryan Payton has further insight on the 360's travails in Japan.
Does the Japan announcement mean North American and possibly European price cuts are in the cards? Inquiries to Microsoft's PR agency were not returned as of press time, most likely due to the federal Labor Day holiday in the US.

yes, but if you want the full experience of the system you will get the premium one, why pay for arcade system when for a little more you can get better, thats like have a 10,000 car with 50,000 in your pocket, for me i'd have the 50,000 car with 10,000 in my pocket.....

True but they all went down in price right, if i had to choose one it would be the premium one, but it is still nice to get it cheaper.

Just read today that the price drop on the systems was ineffective against Sony. It worked for the first week as sales went really high, but the PS3 outsold the 360 again this week worldwide.

September 12th Hardware sales worldwide for PS3 and 360

360 - 169,126 - Win (Good week for sales)
Ps3 - 131,966

September 20th Hardware sales worldwide for PS3 and 360

Ps3: 71,059 - Win
360: 64,329 (wow 105k difference in 1 week?)

Heres a source for Xion!

Um, is it just me or is Microsoft being a bit desperate with all of those price cuts? I mean jeez, are they at least going to cut all of those prices for the rest of the world too? Whoa, Microsoft really trying to keep up with Sony with all of the things they've been doing lately. <_<

As usual. "Xbox 360" and "Positive" are on opposite sides of some of the brains here...

@ Zezlar - Allways provide a valid Source when making a claim.

This holiday season will be great for both consoles though in all areas. So many games and so little money for me to spend ; ; unfair!

Microsoft is trying a little to hard to win over a market that is just simply against them 100% of the way xD. They needta just cut their losses in Japan and move on to making the actual fans of their console happy. Doesn't matter how many Japanese developers and exclusive games they bring into the Xbox arena, they just aren't going to break through that market over the other consoles. Price cut or no....Probably just boosting sales numbers including ppl that suddenly want to import the console cause of a small price cut from what we have to pay elsewhere.
