Square Enix Plans To Take Over Tecmo

Today at 1pm Japan Time, Square Enix will be outlining its plans for a friendly takeover troubled game maker Tecmo. Square Enix's takeover would help the company gain a stronger foothold in the U.S. market with popular Tecmo titles like the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive games. What's more, Tecmo's games will help strengthen Square Enix's current portfolio, which is heavily dependent on RPGs. This isn't the first time Square Enix has moved in on a beleaguered company. In August 2005, Square Enix acquired Taito and wholly owned the company as a subsidiary by September 2005.


Oh if only Itagaki didn't resign. It would have been funny to see him get fired by his new ruler. So now Square own Space Invaders thanks to Taito and Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive and Fatal Frame. This may just be a minor issue but didn't Square post quite a loss this year?

Ninja Gaiden is acceptable but DMC is much better. Project Zero as us Europeans call it is also okay but now on the Wii -_-. Dead or Alive should be destroyed.

Yeah there isn't much of a gain. Still, they're one of the last remaining game companies from the 60's still around so I suppose there's some experience there. Must feel slightly embarrassing being bought out by a company that's younger though.

I think NG does what it does best. And DMC does what it does best. They are meant to play totally differently.

If they merged the two styles it would be fucking sweet though.

Other than NG, I don't really care about any of the other IP's.

I hope it wont result in destroying these titles, they should give free hand to Tecmo, so they could develop their games as they did before, and SE could just help them financialy

Tecmo declined the take-over bid. They're now aiming to merge with Koei, an equally bad company in my opinion but it'll stop them from being absorbed.

SE's problem is that they make to many games at once, for example, now. They got several games in production, which have been in production for years. They need to take things one step at a time.

They definately need to somehow get back into the pattern of getting a new game out every year or two if they're going to keep pouring in all of their resources on multiple titles.

Yeah exactly, they're doing to much at once and it's costing them more money. I mean it's a great idea that Agito and PE3 are going on psp and all BUT they have to much in production as it is; to me that means games are going to be rushed

Well DoA is an okay game Ninja Gaiden is pretty good but other then that I don't really care for Tecmo; Koei makes to many Dynasty Warriors copy cats and games it's getting boring. Capcom and Namco, hell even Konami are the ones that SE should've partnered up with, not take over, if they had to choose.

Anyways, I think if SE got with Konami and worked on a Parasite Eve title or something along those lines, it'd be beautiful. PE on it's won with Square Soft was a great game. Tecmo would'nt have really brought anything to SE's plate

i was thinking that if they teamed up with tecmo they could open up with more fighter game. and maybe more M games Cus it seems that is all tecmo is for xD

From what I recall the only M rated games SE came out with are Drakengard 1 and 2 and Parasite Eve 1 and 2, but that's not really that much but for what can think of and put into an M rating would be nice, but I don't think Tecmo is the right company for it.

I also thikn SE thought they could take Tecmo over is because Tecmo is kinda going downhill so they thought it'd be easy
