Most of these are quite old, except the first, which is a day old. Anyway, my strong point in illustration seems to be using lead pencils. What do you guys think?

The dragon is about 48 hours old at the moment, but all the others were made early this year and I think late last year. I smudge using my fingertips, and thats why the shading sometimes looks clumsy. It looks better then my crosshatching. Believe me.
Here're some new ones, drawn last night at 2am;

I reccomend fullview to take in all the detail.

Good drawings.

As for the smudging, it seems un even, so am i correct to assume you use your fingers?
If you want to smudge work for a blended effect, I'd suggest using a tissue for large areas, it gives an even surface when used correctly. And as for small areas, I'd suggest buying some tortilons, which is an art tool specifically used for smudging small details or areas of work.

As for your work, very well done. I have issues drawing animals or beasts, but your doing damn good. Keep going.

Also, are you using different gradient pencils? Or just the basic HB?
If not, I'd say to go buy yourself a mechanical pencil, and different density led for it. Or just get a basic set of pencils like that which can also be helpful.

I use my fingertips as they seem very good at smudging (even when I don't want them to lol) and in some of my art I leave it slightly rough for texture/scales/bone definition. I've never thought to use a tissue before, but I'll give it a try next time.
Currently I'm using a standard B pencil, as I've lost both of my HBs, and I find mechanical pencils, like pens, uncomfortable. I've been working with pencil since I started drawing, and prefer not to outline my lead stuff with pen. IThey always comes out different after-I'm sure the term is 'inking'-and of a lower quality.

I started drawing dragons seven years ago, but my talent really bloomed mid 2006 and has been getting better ever since, and sometimes jumps. One of these spikes is shown with those character sketches-- sometimes I get into this mindset where I can create one fantastic drawing after another for hours on end, but it's rare.
I actually plan on colouring some of the headshots later on, and they're going in my profile album. If this thread gets more replies, I'll post them here.

These are very good, you have immense drawing talent! I love drawing too ;) But I mainly like drawing people anime style and I'm still working on my art skills.
-I'm more into writting long chapter books but I wanted to create art for my characters, that's what got me into drawing but you're starting to look like a sketch artist already! btw, the third one looks like a dinosaur horse lol
Don't stop drawing, keep going! I hope you'll post more ^_^

*Whistles to gain attention* Three of the headshots, roughly coloured but still pretty good. Also, two character bios. I'm really uploading this week. Unfortunately I'm working off scrap paper :|

I've been uploading to DevArt all this week, and I've still got more to come. Don't look at my oldest stuff, I warn you all now. It's terrible. On the upside, you can really see my progress throughout the months.
