Bring your misplaced patriotism here. Enjoy some wiki copypasting.
"In the first hours of Aug 8th a mass incursion of Georgian troops and armor to a South-Ossetian-controlled territory and repeated shelling of Tskhinvali began. AFP, quoting a spokesman of the Georgian Interior Ministry, stated that three Russian aircraft intruded into Georgian airspace attacking some targets in the Tskhinvali region. On the same day 12 Russian peacekeepers had been killed and nearly 150 were injured. The Russian Prime-Minister Putin said that the Russian Government "condemns the aggressive actions by Georgian troops in South Ossetia" and that Russia would be compelled to retaliate. Heavy fighting was reported in Tskhinvali for most of August 8th, with Georgian forces slowly attempting to push Ossetians from the city. Meanwhile, Russian tanks rolled across the border to aid South Ossetia, and are reported to patrol throughout Tskhinvali."

Good thing you made this thread here, anyways...It seems as though cease fires dont work right away as most would wish, same thing happened between Gaza Strip and Palestine last year when the cease fire was announced by Israel.
War just seems to be the new trend doesn't it?

Where have you been for the last 32,000 years? >_<
What exactly is this war for? Are Russia just waving their military penis around or is it something to do with the pipelines running through Georgia to Europe (I know that Europe isn't doing anything because if Russia turns the tap off we're screwed).
I know theres something to do with separatist groups, does Russia still act like they own them in a kind of throw back to the Soviet era?

all i have to say on this subject is why does america always have to get into other countries business the wart over there isnt any of our problem its just those two countrys problem and i hate it when news reporters say "oh this might brake our relations with russia". if we dont want to break relations and all the years we worked to mantain peace just let russia do its thing and focus on something else that we should be focused on.

@Dream Machine: Well I've only been alive for 20 years I meant lately.
America likes to stick its nose where it doesn't belong and look like the good guys, but in reality we only make situations worse. I swear if we send troops or something to Russia/Georgia I'm moving to Canada

yeah dude if that happens im right there behind you because if america actually starts hurting its relations with russia we're headed for WW3 i swear andi guess america just like to show the world that they are the shet because theres no reason we should be doing any of this. but still nothing big has happened yet but who knows.
Wait a minute, what is America doing this time around? I thought they were only strongly urging Georgia to pull out and Russia to quit fighting back... Did I miss something in the last few days?

Yeah exactly. I mean Russia has nukes and shit and so do we, that's not a good mixture at all unless youre Satan or God being bored.
Anyways, the way I see it is let Georgia go to the west if they want, big fucking deal. That's a ridiculous reason to fight because of independence. But hopefully this isn't going to turn into a years long war.

Yeah it's not, the Iraq war we're in isn't any of our business either. Hopefully this cease fire will go through between Russia and Georgia.

yep i hope so and i wish we could just pull out of iraq now because i have a few of my friends and family down there serving for a war over oil i hope they dont get dragged into another war.
I think a lot of countries are urging them to stop fighting as well; it's not just America, so why not tell them to stfu and mind their own business while we're at it? Until the states intervene like we most always do, it's kinda unfair to start bashing on us so quickly. I guess I'm just tired of living in a country where everyone thinks we'll invade and take over despite having permission or not; even our own people. :(

Well how many other states/countries have have ties with Russia like we do?
And I'm not saying we'll invade but I mean come on, America is corrupt whether you believe it or not.
But anyways...this is about Russia-Georgia. Was killing 12 peace keepers really necessary? They're called peace keepers for a reason.

amen to that my friend
Whether people want to believe it or not, there will never be world peace, or any kind ever. Places are just too corrupt and power craving.
Oh, I'm not saying we're not corrupt--there's no doubt about it. I just think sometimes it's blown out of proportion, believe it or not. We are not the only government out there that has problems, which is something that is overlooked way too many times than it should be. Sure, we've got a bad wrap, but it's just getting exhausting now.
Anyway, I agree that this war is ridiculous. Our war is ridiculous. All war is ridiculous unless we're working together as a HUMAN RACE to fight off some violent alien invader or something. We can only sit back and wait and see if these people have enough decency to come to a peaceful agreement.

Sorry for getting off topic, but that will never happen. There's too many differences with religion, culture, government...Theres no way people will set those aside to make peace.

yeah but i just had to make my own example on that but anyways back on topic...so really what do you think America if russia doesnt stop. would they really go to war with another nuclear super power?

I know what you mean, but I don't think you get my point. I understand there will be differences of opinion; that's obvious. And asking for a utopia where all people will get along is not even something I consider. But TAKING SOMEONE'S life is just a downright shame. I know that war has been with us since the beginning; it is who we as human beings, I get that. However, don't you think we've come to an age where we've got more common sense than just to kill people who simply differ in opinion? Sure it's one thing to disagree on certain subjects, but what I don't get is why it's still so prevalent today. I'd like to believe humans are capable of recognizing these differences and settling them in ways that don't result in mass murder. Apparently that's just a little too much to [dream for].

Oh yes I know I was referring to Liz
And I doubt they'd resort to nuclear holocaust because of a verbal disagreement between each other (US and Russia)
Now that'd just piss me off to no end if they did that.

I'm happy we have a sensible (even if he's duller than grey) Prime Minister, unlike America, who have Bush :cookie:
TBH though, I still don't understand the reason why Russia need to fight with Georgia, all because of a silly difference of opinion. It makes me wonder if the leaders had enough common sense to look back at their histories and LEARN FROM THEM.
I just hope Bush isnt as dumb as his father and jumps at another chance for war...

My thoughts exactly, power hungry fucks is what we Americans are.
And yes it is silly that Russia and Georgia are fighting because of differences but then again that IS what war/battle is about

Well Bush, the idiot; he can't get elected again, and technically we are still in "war" so. :|

new cold war
Whats new? The Independant did a good article yesterday, only report i've seen so far that takes the Georgian perspective into play. I watched Russia Today for about 2 minutes before i heard the words "glorious Russian soldiers". Its very hard to find a unbiased reporter when the West is too piss scared to deal with yet another Russian media crisis. Even Al Jazeera had to carefully dance around mentioning the Georgian death toll incase it might suggest the Russians are getting out of hand.

I've heard that Russia has opened fire against Georgia again, breaking the ceasefire deal that'd been made with the EU. When asked about it, Russia said that they were after some unguarded weapons, or something like that, I don't remember well.
To me it's all bollocks, Russia is still pissed off with no serious reason.

Russia-Georgia conflict created a big headache for Israel which armed and trained Georgians for years - and now suddenly Russians threaten retaliation by supplying S-300 SAM batteries to Syria. Here is what a prominent Israeli analyst says: http://samsonblinded.org/blog/on-russia-georgia-and-israel.htm
