View Full Version : Will the mobile version hold the PSP version down?

Do you think that the mobile version of Final Fantasy Agito XIII will hold the PSP version of the game down?

I think it will, for a number of reasons. The main reason that I believe Agito XIII will be held down is because of a mobile phones graphical capabilities, sure you can argue that the iPhone's version of Super Monkey Ball has good graphics; but really - that's a short game in comparison to the length of a RPG.

I know that the game is set to be released in chapters, but even then I'm pretty sure the graphics won't be up to the same quality of those seen in PSP titles such as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

What do you think? I think that Agito XIII's going to be pretty bad; I know for a fact that I won't be buying this game.

Graphics-wise, this is SE we're talking about, their visuals are always good.

And lets not forget thet the phones' Agito's being developed for are Japanese superphones that they got from 500 years in the future. But it's pretty safe to say thet the PSP version'll be the better of the two.

Okay, so Agito XIII's been developed for Japanese "superphones"; but let's look at a screenshot from Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII.

I'll admit that before today I'd never seen Before Crisis' graphics, and they are a lot better than what I'd originally anticipated. However, I still think that they lack in comparison to those of games such as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. I was a little quick to jump the gun with this topic, but the mobile phones graphics will definitely hold down Final Fantasy Agito XIII's true potential.

Even though the Behemoth is a 3D model, I'm pretty sure that the Turks are sprites. So Agito XIII will definitely have to have some 2D elements; not that this is a bad thing as I loved some of Square Enix's recent 2D titles like The World Ends With You.

The difference between a 2D game like TWEWY and Agito XIII is that TWEWY has other selling points, like the innovative gameplay.

Let's have some hope! Before crisis was released in 2004, Agito isn't even out yet. You are kinda right, if it was PSP only it might be better, but before it wasn't even coming to PSP.

And we know zilch about the gameplay so far, could be great, could be shit. Only time will tell...

A while ago we had a description of an Agito trailer which showed some gameplay. They said that it looked "Close to PS1 graphics". I've no idea what the release plan for Agito is now. It may not even come out for mobiles anymore so chapter downloads might not happen.

I hope they scrap the mobile version of the game, that way the game will reach it's full potential - mobile games limit the audience as well, I mean even if it came out in England; the only people who would be able to play it would be iPhone owners. At this moment in time not many people even own an iPhone, so it'd be a good idea to make it a PSP exclusive.

Close to PS1 graphics sounds a little farfetched, but we'll see.

But I think PSP more powerful than jphone(perhaps). And Agito will be beautiful on it.

I'm not sure its actually coming out for phones. Square was going to make Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday for cell phones, but they switched production to the PSP. Maybe its the same for Agito?

I believe SE will enhance the quality of the character models, do antialiasing, fix the faces etc. in the PSP version.
But it might still look a bit worse than Crisis Core, for example.

I doubt it will be a direct port, they'll probably up the graphics.

That's exactly what a lot of places said. "Close to PS1".

I'm still a little skeptical about the game on mobile phones, if Before Crisis is anything to go by; it won't be close to PS1. We've seen screenshots now, and we don't know if the screenshots are in game or FMV; so it's hard to say - but they do look pretty good, probably better than PS1.

There are other things to take into consideration though, like whether or not the screenshots are from the mobile or PSP versions of the game.

I could understand it looking close to PS1 on PSP, as that would make a lot of sence. I hope they scrap the mobile version and make it a PSP exclusive, that way it'll have more potential.

Well it's not really because it's a different game on a different engine by a different team designed for a different phone.

Yeah I agree. It's not as though their Final Fantasy teams don't have enough to do while making one vrsion that people will buy worldwide and one version that pretty much no one will buy. :aldo:

Agito was being designed for the next generation of Mobile Phones to come out in Japan (4G). Before Crisis will be nothing compared to Agito graphically speaking.

They aren't clear where the screenshots are from but they do plaster "PSP" all over the scans.

Oh, I hadn't heard that - I thought that Agito XIII was been designed for 3G phones or whatever you call them these days.

I can't really comment then, because I haven't seen anything in regards to 4G phones. >_<

Here's the article if you're interested ;)

Final Fantasy Agito XIII

Nomura has given more specifics on how Agito will be distributed. The game is too much for current 3G phones to handle so the game will most likely be developed on next generation 4G phones which haven't been released yet. This means they won't nessecarilly be limited to releasing the game in chapters like Before Crisis but in one full game. The reason he doesn't want it to be developed on 3G is because Nomura wants it to be considered a fully fledged Final Fantasy title. He'll also be using his current mobile projected, Monotone, to test some elements for Agito.

They should just port it to ds, it would make more sense. unless they start over( visual wise) from scratch.

I voted no because judging by the pictures recently I would say that they will release the PSP version first then the mobile version. So I think it won't delay the PSP version and anyway I know SE will find away to make the graphics comparable to each other on the phone and the PSP. 4G will probably come out next year so I think it will give mobiles a huge boost in data transfer and graphics.

I think much this game because I don't have a PSP or even a phone to play and at the moment I'm not really planing on getting one just for that game.

Sorry Square Enix, maybe someday.

i think making a mobile phone game, is ridiculous honestly. I use my cell phone for one thing, and thats to contact other people (call or text.) i may take a picture every once in a while but thats about it. and IF i was to play a cell phone game it would prolly be tetris lol...... best move they could have done was make it psp.

Didn't they decide to cancel the phone idea? That's just what heard from a member of my anime club.

No, they just made the PSP development top priority because they knew waiting on a cell phone that could run it would take a while, obviously.

But in Japan, you can make massive profits from cell phone games. This is why they only make 'em for Japanese phones, that's the target market. It makes sense to make it for a phone, but it also makes sense to put it on the PSP. Either way (or both as they're going for now) they'll win.

Okay, there are several issues here:

1) The mobile version of Agito is no longer a priority; the PSP version is what's in development, the mobile version is on hold.

2) Even if it wasn't on hold, it was in development for Japanese cell phones, which can actually compete with PSP graphics.

3) We will never see the Mobile Phone version of Agito because the Japanese Cell Phones will never reach America for years!

So there, that's why there's no need to fret.
