View Full Version : E3 08 Trailer - Anyone else Underwhelmed?

I have to say I liked the trailer but I really wasn't excited after seeing it. Once again it's nothing new. It was just like the scans we've seen before but moving. The music was alright I suppose.

Maybe as I wasn't expecting it, I didn't build up enough excitement beforehand. Maybe if they never released the screenshots to magazines it would have felt newer. Anyone else pretty underwhelmed?

I have felt underwelmed ever since they threw the trailers in the closed theather that faithful TGS. Maybe you just aren't interested in wire-fu all the time with Storm Riders style cutscenes anymore? Maybe you are spiteful about the Xbox360 version? All in all I am pleased they released that trailer finally so I can read all of the silly posts taking it apart and examing everything.

Still it comes down to this: I want gameplay. Cutscenes don't do it for me. Why am I hyped for Last Remnant? Gameplay. Lot of it and it snares me in its fangs. Star Ocean 4 just caught my interest with the gameplay in its trailer. FFXIII is just riding on a name and 7 seconds of mock-up battle scenes for me.

I liked it, it wasn't the most thrilling or exciting but it was something. I liked seeing the red-haired girl animated. Could they have thrown us a bigger bait? Yes, I wish they did...

I really just wish they'd put real "360" footage instead of the same old stuff.

I'll probably tire of it soon but for now it's bread to a starving girl.

XIII aside, Microsoft is trying to strengthen their Live service this year whilst a lot of their triple AAA titles come out, its a good plan.

And I agree with Desi and Kitteh, the trailer did not do anything for me, and i want in game footage. GAMEPLAY DAMMIT, I want some.

Personally I want to see more for Versus XIII. Hopefully this XIII's battle system won't be a flop (as well as the story).

i think the trailer would've been better if square enix didnt keep nerfing the footage. the bits from the CLOUD DVD trailer were nerfed, and they used symphony music (which is ok for an opening sequence like it was in FFXII) but for a trailer it didn't really set the mood for hype or suprise.

I quite like it for the new footage but other than that, it just didn't have the 'oomph' of the other trailers I dont think.

the intro to the CLOUD DVD trailer with the slightly-technoish electric guitar i thought was cool. i was expecting something like that in a new trailer.

Posting on FFXIII fanforums and analyizing every second of a two year old trailer does that sometimes.

Yeah Kit, your right, in other words it was shit, nothing new really, they just did that trailer to announce it for 360 i guess.
In a way im glad they didnt show anything else, since the more they keep to them selfs the more fun we will have when we play it, just the 2 old trailers plus the scans in motion, nothing to be hyped up anyways, you can actualy feel it in the air, the mood has droped after that trailer lol.:nag:

I agree with Desi here, it's been 2 years and really what do we know about the actual game itself and what it looks/feels like when you're actually playing it? Just showing CGI cutscene footage over and over is killing it for me. I know the game will be incredible when it finally reveals itself, but would it really be too much of an effort for Square Enix to show some proper real-time gameplay footage?

I remember being on this forum over a year ago and posting in a thread about guessing what the blond guys name is and we're still none the wiser now about the answer to that one. Development secrecy is one thing but SE are really pushing it with FFXIII.

All I want is some new information or footage about the actual gameplay, is that too much to ask?

I actually REALLY liked it. I never get tired of watching any of the trailers, and it was nice having different music in this one. It gives the game a different feel, but it reminded be of FFXII's music. I wasn't as excited as I was with the other trailers, but finally seeing the other characters in motion made it worth the watch.

I tend to not pick apart a trailer or anything about an upcoming game anymore, purely because it ruins it for me. When I play a game I find it's most enjoyed when it's fresh and you don't know every little detail about it. Sound quite cliche considering I'm saying this on a website dedicated to bringing up every bit of news about the games. I guess what I'm getting at is that I don't mind the trailer being mainly cutscenes, but would really enjoy some gameplay sometime soon!

I enjoyed to be honest. I wasn't expecting much new stuff. Isn't this just what was shown at one of Square's private parties? And like someone already said, it's pretty much the screenshots we've already seen, except in motion.

It was pretty good overall I think, could be better though. Sirens back! Yay! And Carbuncle was absolutely adorable. In FFVIII I'd always summon it just 'cause it's so cute. On that note, anyone else think that the redheaded girl looks a bit like Selphie?

I know what you mean, it remind me alot of FFXII which at first I wasn't too sure if I wanted XD. It was a good track but I'm not sure if the music from the last 2 trailers would have still fitted better at some moments.

I wish I was in a position to do that :P. Unfortunatly I don't think we'll be getting much more out of this E3.

I think that with every game. It makes it even more annoying when they reveal major plot points in the game you're anticipating (damn you MGS4).

I liked the music, sure it didn't fit but it did sound nice. The trailer was nothing but eye candy for me. At least it's something shiny and pretty to stare at. Though I can say there is very little to speculate about now since we've already done that with the scans and magazine info.

Getting details and information on a game before its release and actually playing the game when it's released are two different things. No previews or information for upcoming games ruin my experience for playing games the first time around.

The trailer was okay I guess.

Nothing new. Not all that exciting and the music is iffy. There's sound effects and what not so that's cool. but yeah it wasn't all too exciting waiting so long for...that?

Gameplay is what I really wanted to see. I don't know why though I enjoy the cutscenes they're graphically great. BUT since it is a RPG and in general when you play they game they 1) don't look like that(or least not that great looking as the cutscenes) and 2) it's not a movie and there's interaction and what not that goes on so yeah.

SIGH gameplay! That's what I want to see I want to see if it's made well since I like real-time and this is somewhat of a twist on it. And just want to see the environmental interaction.

The trailer (like the others) looks gorgeous and I've watched it twice so far. I agree with you guys, the music is fantastic. There's at least 30% new footage in this one and I have to say, the city (or airship...?) looks unlike any enviroment I've so far seen in a game, but the canyon at the start truly captured my attention.
The new footage of the summons, Mr. 33cm and the pig-tailed girl are things I have been waiting to see, and the former character is becoming one of my favorites :P
Despite all that, the leaked Versus trailer got me more excited.

I watched it once, and then forgot about it, thats how much I cared. Part of just pisses me off about the Xbox announcement. I'm fine now, but that trailer just reminds me of it. If you push that aside, it still wasn't thrilling, yay for moving parts of shit we have seen before it scans, yay for no gameplay clip, yay for music that didn't fit at all, yay for footage from 2 fucking years ago, and yay for the same damn pre-rendered shit that we have seen since this game was announced. That's my take. no I was not impressed at all.

IMO despite the low amount of new footage, it was still the most evocative and well put together of the 3 trailers weve seen..and i love the orchestral music..much more fitting to "Final Fantasy" than w/e that other track was...that is again, despite the recycled material...purely as a trailer, it was a good one.
