An ad for Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain has been cleared of allegations of sexual abuse after 42 complaints were made to the advertising watchdog.
The ad featured a young man in a doctors surgery who tells an older doctor about his “Cakey-pains.” The medic told the patient to take off his trousers as he was shown putting a large red oven glove on his left hand.
The ad closed with a voice-over saying, "Mmm. Oveny-bakey-cakeyness from the Nutri-Grain Baker".
Complainants to the Advertising Standards Authority, said the ad was suggestive of the sexual abuse of younger people by authority figures and said the ad was unsuitable to be broadcast at times when it could be seen by children.
Kellogg's said the ad was not designed with the intention of, or reference to, any form of abuse, sexual or otherwise. They added that the ad was intended to be light-hearted and inoffensive.
The manufacturer also explained that the target audience for the ad was 25 to 44-year-olds, and that the ad had been scheduled accordingly.
While the he ASA said they understood that some viewers might find the ad distasteful, we considered that most viewers would understand that the ad was light-hearted in tone and was attempting to be humorous.
Kellogg Company of GB Ltd (Kellogg's) said, however, that due to the serious nature of the consumer complaints, they would be taking the ad off air and replacing it with a version that did not contain the line "now take off your trousers".
ROFL. Seriously, who the fuck could get offended by that advert? It was well good.
