Anyone else looking forward to this game? Star Ocean 3 was one of the best action RPGs i've ever played, and i'm hoping this one will be even better.

There's still no news on what console this game will be going, but according to a recent dengeki scan... the PS3 is most likely going to get it.

I never liked Till the End of Time. The voice acting pissed me off and it just felt like they weren't putting anything innovative in it at all. Just a recycled Action RPG really to me.

Plus, I really liked the combat system. ^^

And by the looks of it, SO4 might be similar, even the main protagonist looks similar to Fayt.

EDIT: Hopefully they expand the combat system though. Include Bows, Guns, Etc. And expand the equipment Customization. Plus, it would be nice if they distributed the attacks more equally so if you want, some players can chain like, 15 moves, or you can just chain 3 power attacks.

That was the only bad thing about the combat, the combos were a bit bad. D;

Star Ocean series is my fav series ever and Till the End of Time is my fav game ever even now. Oh, and if you all are looking for more info on SO4 then google the site Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope. And I basically agree with everyone who mentioned the positives on the series. Unfortunately SO4 is currently 360 exclusive, but it doesn't mean it won't come for PS3. Yoshinori does think that their team may possibly do it. But it's for 360 now because of what it could handle. Gotta love Sci-fi Fantasy! ^_^_^_^

Not only that but during the story characters would say different things at certain times each time play through the story mode or some characters talk when the last time you played through a specific scene, some one else did. Or they don't say anything at all. I not only loved the different endings but the different Color Twins you'd fight in the Ursra Cave Temple.

I remember before the platform was announced Tri-Ace said they were making three games (not SO games, just three games I mean). One for the Wii, one for the 360 and one for the PS3.

As Infinite Undiscovery was a 360 exclusive everyone assumed SO4 would be the PS3 exclusive. No idea what happened to that! :lol:

I'm thinking it was originally planned as a PS3 exclusive, but Microsoft bought timed exclusivity, so we'll get it like a year afterwards or something. Very annoying but that seems to be Microsoft's strategy this gen :rolleyes:

Good News: It's out eight days earlier in the US!
Bad News: No Playstation 3 game yet... (oh well i'll get it for my xbot)

[This question was asked over 100 times] In the past the Star Ocean series has been known to be a Sony systems (PlayStation(s)) game only. With the fairly recent announcement of Final Fantasy XIII coming to the Xbox 360, do we have any chance of seeing Star Ocean 4 made for the PlayStation 3?

Star Ocean Dev Team: There are currently no plans for a PlayStation 3 version.

What game engine is tri-Ace using for SO4, is it the Unreal 3.5 engine or an original engine created for the game??

Star Ocean Dev Team: The engine being used for Star Ocean: The Last Hope is an original engine developed by tri-Ace. The same engine was used for Infinite Undiscovery as well.

IGN Reader: Will players have the option to listen to the Japanese voice acting instead of the English one?

Star Ocean Dev Team: Unfortunately, this option will not be available.

How many playable characters will there be? Is it just 7 characters? Also, do inactive characters continue to level with the characters you play often (similar to Eternal Sonata) or do you have to play with every character in order to increase level?

Star Ocean Dev Team: There are over seven playable characters. They will not level up unless actively used in battle, and since you can only have up to four characters in your party at a time, it is necessary to switch party members for the rest of the characters to level up.

I've noticed that the hero of Star Ocean 4 has the same clothes on as Fayt Leingod had in Till The End of Time. Is there a relation between the two characters? If not, is there a reason the main concept and design of the new character looks remarkably the same, aside from hair color?

Star Ocean Dev Team: There is no relation between the two characters, as the stories take place in completely different times. Perhaps there is a slight resemblance in their appearances.

The Star Ocean series has been known for its fast-paced, deep combat system. Star Ocean 3 presented perhaps one of the best active battle system designs to date, it seemed to really lack only one thing: cooperative multiplayer. Will Star Ocean 4 include the option for cooperative multiplayer, or perhaps DLC that may later enable cooperative multiplayer?

My question regarding The Last Hope is this: Will there be any romance in the game? This might come as an odd question, but since I feel that romance is an element that adds quite a bit of depth and character development, it's rarely a bad thing to have in a game. Also, I feel that the use of this element has been waning over the last few years; I remember the times of Final Fantasy VIII, or even Tales of Phantasia, in which romance was a much appreciated part of the dialogue and the character interaction in general.

Star Ocean Dev Team: The romantic element has always been a prevalent one throughout the Star Ocean series -- you could even say that Star Ocean and romance go hand in hand. Of course, this title has plenty of romance as well. We've incorporated a variety of events, which are triggered depending on the compatibility between different characters.

From the sound of the trailers, it sounds like Motoi Sakuraba is doing the music? Is this true? Is there anyone else joining him and sharing the compositional duties with as well? And when, if there is one, will the OST be released.

Star Ocean Dev Team: Mr. Motoi Sakuraba is in charge of the musical aspect of this title, and all songs are composed by him. The Japanese OST release date has not been confirmed yet.

How big of a role will synthesis play throughout the game if it's present at all?

Star Ocean Dev Team: Synthesis will definitely be a feature of this game. As with previous Star Ocean titles, utilizing synthesis and item creation to your advantage will enhance the gameplay experience.

Will there be a Dictionary like in SO3? The Dictionary added a lot of backstory and, in my opinion, gave the story more depth as things were explained. I really hope it returns in SO4.

tri-Ace is known for using characters from their other games and placing them as optional bosses towards the end of the game, Can we expect to see characters like Gabriel Celeste and Ethereal Queen, as well as Lenneth from Valkyrie Profile?

Star Ocean Dev Team: Gabriel Celeste, Ethereal Queen, and other familiar characters will definitely make an appearance, but these characters are originally from the Star Ocean series. There are no plans for characters from outside of the series to make an appearance.

Oh and i think the game will come to PS3...at some point...however i recommend anticipating playing a game for the platform its announced for, so just look forward to playing it on 360, because thats the only place you KNOW you will be able to play it on...just like i tell people that want Versus XIII on 360...look forward to playing it on ps3, because right now thats the only place you know you youll play it on...if the situation changes then thats a different story, just dont give yourself false hopes or expectations.

Also that Dictionary part of SO3 was nice(read the whole thing and makes real sense to be portrayed as a possible future for us). In my opinion, even though the characters are CG (even though they still have an Anime look to them with the eyes and stuff), they do still have there icons in Anime form in dialog without voices and other stuff. And it kind of sucks that there's no multiplayer mode like there was in SO3.

Its been said time and time again how much that doesnt matter. Besides the actual game box itself could still have it, youll need to see an actual copy first but eitherway, some games have it and come to PS3, some games dont and end up staying on 360 anyway. My Copy of Dead or Alive 4 doesnt have the stamp on it! :lol:

I say this as if I even have a 360 myself. I don't, but for some time now I've been kinda envious since for a moment I've kinda wanted to give SO a shot, and would've liked to play it on a next-gen console. Though uuuuh Youtube, docs and maybe a few reviews helped me completely change my mind.

How can you guys stomach the shitty writing, the shitty VA and the overall awkardness of it all? Characters are as generic as they come, and apparently this game has yet again the whole "Frienship's so great that with the power of it, we can revive a graveyard! SMILE BEEEEAM" bullshit. Is this how SO games generally are?

I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that SO isn't so much of a generic copypasta JRPG in terms of story, and that its gameplay is its major saving grace. Y/N?

Definitely. I've gotten into about 40 hrs. into the game and just got to the second disk. This game has, in fact, tied for my most favorite game ever(along with SO3). The graphics of the environment look so beautiful and gorgeous.
I've been playing the game nonstop when I get home. The lip sinking is actually more accurate then I expected (compared to SO3). The design for characters look sweet in my opinion, and the story line is amazing. Quite a few plot twist in fact. Also if you've played SO3 and noticed that you'll need to fight a lot, same goes with this game as well but in the end you'll feel like you can never resist a fight since they're so much fun (especially as new characters come along). Trust me so far i've been into about 1140 (around there) fights and I still love it.:wub:

Man bossess in this game are becoming EVIL. Has anyone done the 8 stage fight on planet Aeos yet? HOLY CRAP. I did it on one try, but I almost wiped a few times. If this was S03 with the item recast, I would have died. Lol.

The last guy on the previous planet was a pain as well, but I also defeated him first try.

(I guess this is a good thing, because I found all previous bossess to be easy as crap)

I knowww. Took me 2 times to beat all of them. 1st time I managed to beat them w/one person standing and I had to turn off the game so I considered it a loss. So on my 2nd attempt I synthesized my weapons and armor like crazy and ended up beating them without dying. By the way i'm basically done on En II and i'm headed towards Now Obscurous. A lot of things about the REAL plot of the story will be told once you reach En II. Also, En II/Centropolis looks pretty beautiful.

I am very dissapointed by the Item Creation in this game though I must say. I haven't created any real items yet because the materials take ridicoulous amounts of time to gather. I wish it was like S03 where you spent money to make the recipe...and you just bought them out of the store. But Welch is funny as balls!

Yeah, the only thing that I didn't like about item creation is that it was difficult finding the materials necessary to create an item even though you could make tons of recipes for them.


-So has anyone gotten to fight against Gabriel Celeste yet? I LOVE the version The Incarnation of Devil played in this one. Also they brought back his lightning abilities too. Now he's basically a newer version of the Gabriel Celeste from SO3 wi. I'm level 133/4 and he's REALLY tough. Has anyone beaten him yet (and perhaps Ethereal Queen as well)?

I'm thinking about buying this game since its now released in europe (finally) but i have a few questions:

Story, compared to LO what grade would you give it?
Gameplay, how fun and addictive is it? Any chanse i'll want to play this game a second round?
VoiceActors (i allready know its bad) can one overlook the bad VA? Compared to FFX

Or should I just wait for ToV? even though i'm not so into anime looking games.. and dont tell me to rent it first because i cant, they ripp you of over here

Okay. Well i'm still only in the beginning of Lost Odyssey so I really can't give you a good comparison of the storyline. But I can say that it's just as deep and Sci-fi as SO3 was. SO3 dealt with 4D space and the universe (Eternal Sphere) being a virtual reality/program while SO4 deals with corruption in the evolution of multiple species across distant stars and an entity trying to overthrow all evolution. IT'S VERY ADDICTIVE, and you'll need to do a lot of fighting anyways (just like in SO3). A replay of the game is very likely, even after doing a whole lot of extra secret stuff/dungeons/bosses. Doing the game at a higher difficulty level can cause new things to happen during the story. Voice acting is still FINE!!!!! If you've read some of my posts to others who've questioned about the VA, i've mentioned that it's definitely an improvement from SO3 and not FFX bad. Trust me, i've played /am still playing it and, basically put, all of the news/rumors you've heard have made it worse than it actually is!

Dude, FFX's lip syncing was so off that the voices ended long after they finished moving their lips ALL THE TIME. SO3's was more like half the time and SO4' is about 1/5 to about 1/6 of the time approximately. Trust me, I've played all three of these games DOZENS OF TIMES OVER so I know what I talking about. VALID!!!:nag:

ffx had a lip sync problem but the voice acting was superb so i don't really care if the mouths and the voice didn't end everytime at the same second because you could feel everything in their voices.:P
