Does anyone know if Versus XIII will have monsters in it because i cant see any FF game without monsters even if this game is suppose to take place in the real world. anyone else think differently?

I guess you answered your own question. I'm guessing there'd be rogue creatures from outside a town or whatnot that'll attack.

If they go on the traditional world journey I'm sure they'll encounter some monsters, if soulless goons aren't enough for you.

It isn't set in the real world, it's just set in a world that is more modern rather than something from fantasy or sci-fi, and it looks at real world issues. But it's still set in a fantasy world with magic and monsters and airships and everything.

I actually think it will just be people in this one... i think it would be alot more realistic to do it that way, and give the game more emotion with their enemies, rather than 'goon 1' 'goon2' attack, etc.
If they did include any monsters, i think it will be like lions, or tigers etc. Who knows, maybe their might be some form of monster, but i hope at the minute its just people.

i still think the will be monsters in it, it would would be boring fighting person after person all the way through the game and it wouldn't have much strategic game play seeing as people r easy to kill. atleast maybe a couple of monster bosses i hope will be in it.

The main "monster" type in the game will probably be those soldiers we saw in the trailers. Sure, actual monsters are okay, but i never really liked them in the previous games.

Maybe monsters will be replaced by machines or robots. It's the modern world anyway.

Maybe monsters will be replaced by machines or robots. It's the modern world anyway. We don't have any combat-suited robots in our modern world, and judging by the fact that our world is what Nomura is aiming at, i think he'd stay away from those kind of concepts, the ones that might seem futuristic. Anyways, that's just my opinion. :P
Pulse
Mar 20 2008, 12:26 PM
Well they already have the futuristic robot element in FFXIII, i doubt they will use the same concept in Versus. So far in FFXIII all the monsters are in 'digital' format made by the crystal, i dont think they would make robots in Versus, because thats basically the same thing in a way. I still stick by my guns that it might just be people in Versus, with some form of magical element to their character or appearance. I think people alone is just a good idea, makes the game less fantasy and more reality....
'fantasy based on reality' etc.

Well, i guess it's not impossible, but considering the general direction of the Versus theme, it's kind of unlikely that Nomura would use a futuristic concept like robots. But that's just speculation, he could just pull a ribby and throw in monsters and robots.

True enough, but adding monsters into a world that is supposedly based on ours would contradict the main theme of the game.

I agree with you.
In fact,I guess that Versus will be greatly different from other games, maybe,in the aspects of the monsters and the character's temperament.
Why can't the wars be between the humans?
Sometimes,I really feel it foolish to fight against a monster which is like a monkey or a big rat.
But the wars between humans can be more complicated, because they may not just want to beat the other or kill the other, they may want to make the other more painful than the death.
Ah~~Never facing an animal is so wonderful!

They said the game is based off the real world, and as I've said before this does not mean the game won't have fantastical elements. So yes, it probably have monsters. We still don't know most of the details of the game or really what it's about so it's too early to rule anything out. Besides they obviously have magic in the game so why would monsters as we know them be ruled out?

a final fantasy game without monsters would be pretty boring for me, I don't think fighting people the entire game would be fun...... i mean maybe at first, but then it would just get old.... who knows maybe the last crystal will start making mass monsters for some reason, but its reality so it will have a godzilla effect and people will be going ballistic... thats when the main guys and the prince get pulled into an "oh sh*t" situation. I mean the chrystals make organisms in XIII... why not VS Xiii too?

No I kinda think that this game will stay on the grounds of reality which means just human soliers and ther types of soldiers but i hope theyre not as weak asin the trailer though..

there are going to have to be some major kick as$ people in versus then if i'm going to be interested the whole time.... there is only so much you can do with people in a final fantasy game....o well, i will miss the monsters then...
Maybe they will fight stray dogs and kittens....

Still magic is in the game, which gives way to monsters being there as well. Beside it seems that people seem to have this misunderstanding that just becasue something is based off reality it can't have any fantastical element. Note, that Squre did not state how tightly or loosely based on reality it is, further, we don't even know in what way it is based on reality. It could just be on certain topics like war, or political intrigue.

I don't see why not? Parasite Eve has monsters and it takes place at real world locations.
If there were no monsters it may give us something to think about. Only enemies being humans or a form of humans. Maybe some birds and cattle too.
This topic really doesn't seem like a real question.

If its only gonna be people, then they've got to good. In that case of versus 13, counting the setting there might not be. I'd like to see afight scene with a thousand soldiers. That'd be great

I agree with this. and I like the idea of it just being people. since it's suppose to be closer to real world as opposed to fantasy.
and wouldn't it be awesome if you had a battle where you fought that many soldeirs like in the trailer with you having a wide arsenal of weapons and you are completely in control maybe even that city.

Based on the real world. Not the real world. In the real world princes can't pull a billion swords out of nowhere and run up walls, and infantrymen don't wear metal armor. I think it'll be soemthing like Crisis. Most enemies are still human, with a few monsters here and there as bosses and miscellaneous creatures.

Sadly enough it seems that people skipped over some of my posts. I even brought up Parasite Eve that takes place in New York and California. Real life locations but filled with unnatural monsters.

i hope its not just humans..
it wount be Final Fantasy anymore, specialy since alot of the mobs have made a name for them selfs, and are sometimes just as popular as main caracters. Like "Bomb" for example.
If its just humans can you imagine how doll and repetitive this game can get, even with all the variaty of mobs in FFs, it can get repetitive... so yeah bring in some big bad boys... i wana see this prince do some fed up moves on some big f off mobs.

I kind of like the idea that the monsters don't show up until something happens to the crystal (gets stolen) that way there is a lot of fear from the people. It would also cause some unexpected problems for the 4 protagonists....
Prince: if you expect me to fight the cloverfield monster...your insane.... -_-
I just want some monsters... unless square-enix can make humans stay interesting for the entire game...

I dont know, but there wont be only human in this game. They still use magic in some ways, and they may summon monters. And FF XIII still has monters, I hope versus will. They can use robots too... maybe smt more...like parasitism. They can make soldiers become monsters :D

I reckon it would be a waste to summon, when all you can hit are people.
Why would it be a waste? Fighting soliders with a summon was as fun as fighting any other monster with a summon in FFXII. Just because they're people doesn't mean they have to all act the same. They might be given individuality so every enemy you encouter acts and looks slightly different.

Cause its like squashing an ant with ur shoe, they hardly be a challenge when u use a summon. That why i would like to have monsters too.
but thats the sommoning side, sure they'll fight differntly in battle probobly creating differnt combos and special for u to pull off. That would rock.

Are you serious? How were soliders weaker than any other monster in the previous FF games? In fact, most final bosses were human. (To some degree...)

Jun 06 2008, 12:10 PM
Even more reason why the summons r a waste, if they can't kill a human then i probobly wont use them. And yes the humans or soldiers do turn out weak before u even get half way throiugh a game. The only ones that servive r the bosses with really powerful stats eg, sephiroth, kuja, i wont count symore cause he was an unsent.
By all means prove me wrong, this is what i think but i doesn't make me right.

i think summons should be changed, i think summons should have some key skills that we really need to use them, or have more of a story, like you talk to them in ocasions, making them propers characters in a game. Like say your in middles of a battle, and your near death, and a summon just comes up like by it self to help you out.... just tired of having so many summons and getting to a point in the game where they are useless, thats why i liked FFX you need your summons all the way to the end. In FFXII they didnt do nothing for me, i just have them all cause i like collecting them lol

We're talking about monsters here. Remember, what we've seen in the trailer DOES NOT mean that the soldiers are always gonna be weak unless you like grinding levels. The soldiers were made weak just for Square's usual cinematic purposes. <_< It won't mean they'd be weaker than any monsters.

Nuff' said :aldo:-Where would the appeal be if all you witnessed in the game was the prince getting owned.Having just one set of soldiers with the same strenghts isnt going to be the only enemies otherwise the game would not progress.Placing in something like a monster from cloverfield seems too out of place in the modern setting.
I'd like to see afight scene with a thousand soldiers. That'd be great
Its satisfying to commit a massacre but after a while it seems like standard repetitive procedure with no variation in finding out the weaknesses in your enemy as you would do when fighting a boss.

As stated, it's a final fantasy game, so monsters should come in some form. They may not be inside the city, but stay right outside it's outskirts.. Just look at FF12 (Kinda).

Good point there Kites that seems viable to me though if battles are supposed to be like what Tetsuya said i wonder if monsters will be able to follow you into the city or something running away seems like almost an impposibility i mean fighting inside and outside of buildings and what not only thing i am 93% sure about is that there will be monsters in the game in some form or another.

There will obviously be monsters in Versus, but they will be far most realistic, i.e no floating fish zooming through the sky.
There's also a good chance that they'll have a complicated backstory explaining why they're so aggresive and odd. For example, maybe the power of the crystals warped the creatures of the planet, mind and body, making them volatile beasts. Humans will make up a large part of the menagerie, including soldiers, rebels, bandits, etc. I say rebels and bandits because of the fact that the player can explore Versus' world.

Or maybe Stella's country starts abusing the crystal they stole (just assuming this is what happens), and on accident forms monsters that had been extinct for a very long time. We are looking at some serious hysteria from innocent civilians.

I think in the cities it will probably be soldiers and perhaps bandits(street thugs, gangsters, etc.) and if they go out of the city thats where i expect monsters.
It is Final Fantasy though in Advent children there was a giant monster in the middle of the city(Bahamet, right?) of course that was a summon i think. But who knows they might get creative with the human enemies enough to where monsters won't be necessary...
