Okay.. apparently.. around 1am there was an earthquake in the UK measuring 4.7 on the richter scale? Did anybody experience it? I just got back from a club so I never noticed it. Apparently it hit lincoln, which is really close to Nottingham where im studying.. just wondering if anybody else was affected by it... heres what the BBC had to say......

BREAKING NEWS: LINCOLN AT CENTRE OF UK EARTHQUAKE

One of the biggest earthquakes ever to hit the UK shook Lincolnshire and at at least eight other counties early this morning.

The tremors measured 4.7 on the Richter scale and had their epicentre approximately 15 miles north-east of Lincoln, in the town of Market Rasen.

Shocked householders described a noise like a juggernaut or goods train while their properties "shook and vibrated" for up to 30 seconds at around 12.58am.

There were no initial reports of injuries to people or damage to property but experts warned that the area could yet suffer further after-shocks.

Affected areas of the country stretched from Lancashire to Norfolk and also included Bedfordshire, Leicestershire and North Yorkshire.

Chris Hutchings, from Skellingthorpe, said: "It was like nothing I'd ever experienced before. The whole family woke up and wondered what on earth was going on. I was still shaking long after the whole thing had finished."

Yvonne Mammatt, from Bassingham, said: "At first I thought it was a dream. The bedroom was shaking and there was a low rumbling noise.

"I realised it was an earthquake because I'd felt one some years ago in Derbyshire but this one was much stronger and much longer. It really felt as if the whole house was beng shaken."

The British Geological Survey said it believed the quake was of the magnitude of 5.1 A spokesman said it was the biggest earthquake to hit England since 1990 and could be of a level to cause minor damage to buildings.

A spokesman for the United States Geological Survey said: "Even though this is light to moderate in world terms, people should still be prepared for after-shocks.

"Events of this magnitude in this part of the world are really, really rare. From experience, they do tend to generate after-shocks."

The biggest on-land earthquake ever recorded in the UK measured 5.4 on the Richter scale in North Wales in 1984.

Between 200 and 300 quakes occur in Britain each year, but only about 10 per cent are strong enough to be felt.

Buildings are deemed to be at risk from a quake over 5 on the Richter scale, according to the Environment Agency.
