I dont know. I think that by having 4, square might be playing a very tactical game. We can attach ourselves to 4 characters instead of having more to attempt to attach with. This way, IF the tragedy befalls them, then obviously it'll affect the player more. Plus, the story is about the bonds of the 4 of them, so its pointless having 1 or 2 more playable characters that have nothing to do with the journey of these 4. I understand they may incorporate more playable characters in, however, I would be perfectly happy just having the 4 characters as playable.

I always thought that FFVS13 would have a small party.Maybe my mind is telling me it`s this game is going to have a small party because it`s an action-rpg like Kingdom Hearts, where you had a party of 3-4 memebers.I`m hoping to see more party members for VS13 though.

With the theme being "bonds" I kind of doubt that we'll see a huge parade of characters to swap between. I'd be annoyed if they didn't make it into the combat system though. If they're carrying weapons, they should be able to use them >_>;

I just want to be able to use my full party cast at once. Like you were able to do in the older games.

Yeah, maybe. However that woman with the rapier could be a party-member.

There will most likely be atleast 2 more, as the standard FF has 6 party characters.

I would love that to be an option. I think it would make us more in tune with the characters and would make those 'bonds' stronger between the characters and the players.

I can't stand having to switch out characters. It just bothers me T_T I'd actually prefer to see less usable characters so I can just concentrate on a few. The grinds get so long and boring when you have ten usable characters and only two slots to put them in alongside your main character... ~_~ It also means I'm forced to switch out characters I like for characters I hate if I want to keep them all decently high. I think I'd just have more fun if I was given characters and enough slots to use them as I wanted.

I think maybe only three, cuz seeing as they're so advanced and all they might need a geek to manage their moniez and stuff. And drive them. In other words, the glasses guy will be their unplayable bitch.
Just a thought. He's the only one who doesn't look ready for combat.

'suppose he could-but that would be just like playing grand theft auto in an ff game, seeing as he has no plausible weapon-like rev-SQ said i doubt he'll be playable

Exactly! It would be brilliant! They set it up to be this great tragedy and the juxtaposition with a little comedy could make it the most amusing game ever created! Even greater than Earthworm Jim peeing if you didn't use him for a while in Earthworm Jim 2! :mutantcookie:

YEAH. It would be awesome if Rockstar and Square collabed to make a Grand Theft (whatever their world is called)
You can run over citizens with the car, mug people and steal their Gil and sleep with horny Viera prostitutes.

If that's the case, niether does the big guy with the scar, yeah? ._. The only ones of the four we've seen with weapons are shotgun guy and the protagonist, yeah?

That's true. I think these 4 are going to be the only playable characters. As Pulse said earlier, it'll be very effective since they are focusing on "bonds." With only 4 characters, you can focus on them easily, get more attached, and the story can play out greatly. I think it will be fine, it not much better, with these 4 only ^_^

Maybe I'm one of the few who thinks there will be no party members or that this game will kind of play out like Kingdom Hearts, where Sora is pretty much the only playable character... maybe with exception of some of the other characters in the game being guests/temporary playable that is subbed in during some points in the game.
As much as that would suck to many people (including myself) for the lack of character accessibility, I think it adds more options and freedom in terms of what the prince can do. Take God of War for example, that game played out really well for it having only one playable character... the rest are just story-related characters. I guess you could say this is another form of DMC-styled game, with a SE touch to it.

I would like to switch between characters.
Well if you thin about it. It starts you off with a few characters. Then as you progress though the game you will get more characters, weapons, less money in pocket, and items.

well if they are the only 4 playable chartcters, they better be very entertaining in the cut scenes, and they better be very kick a$$ during the gameplay when you use them. Won't this be like the first final fantasy game to only have male party members, if these 4 are really the only playable characters?

I think Nomura recently said FFVSXIII will focus on men, and it will be more like a "on-the-road" adventure, and that the characters get sucked into the main conflict more by chance than any other reason. AT LEAST THIS IS WHAT I THINK HE SAID.

Chance? THE MAIN CHARACTERS A PRINCE FOR CHRIST'S SAKE.
But yeah, I do remember Nomura saying that.

I'd rather it stays to four. Like some tootz mentioned earlier, it's much easier to set abound this "bond" theme that's happening here. It's also gives much freedom to set up and develop each character. Even in terms of gameplay, I've always been more partial to simply evolving one group rather than 2/switching back, I do hate decisions.
ALSO. I hate it when in certain cases, you're *forced* to fight with a party member that you've never USED. FF9 is a prime example of this. In fact, I still cannot finish this game because of this problem.
So in all, having a small group is imo much more flexible and breathy. I liiiike, I like.
And I concur with whoever said no mindless button smashing. >: KH2 gameplay was just laughable.
