If your not as observant as me and don't read things much you will have no idea what 4D is.

4D allows the manipulation of textures in real-time. Atm everything is textured onto 3D cubes, circles and such. 4D allows those cubes to be manipulated into their own space and such.

Example of 3D: Burnout: Paradise in burnout when you crash the game uses preconfigured crash damage (depending on what your crashing into and at what speed) it then loads the correct textures and replaces them.

Example of 4D: The car will crash into the wall the 4D cubes will manipulate themselves to show differences in textures and such all in real time.

What does this all mean?

It means in future RPG's and such your character could start off at the age of 2 and grow to the age of 72 all in the game with body parts expanding and growing all in real-time.

Another example: Say in the game you punch a window and it breaks thus giving you a cut, that cut will bleed, effect the area around it, get that crap that goes over a cut and slowly heal all in its own realistic trime frame.

ofcourse the 2-72 thing is a bit far because...no game could last that many years but MMOs could totally use that type of stuff.

Next-gen consoles will probably come out around 2015.

Haha that's pretty cool. Of course that's gonna take forever, but oh well.

And isn't that not necessarily the 4th dimension? I thought the 4thD was time/space? I guess that could be 4D..but that would make too many confusions and complications, wouldn't it?

Wasn't there some PS3 tech video supposedly showing off 4D graphics?

Only tech demo of the PS3 i have seen is the one where they showed off how movement is now done in every directions not just left, right, down, up and diagonals.

To truly be brought to life RPG's would need a lot more interaction and living worlds then they have now. The Elder Scrolls Series is one of the few well-known RPG's that have a breathing world. I just don't see the majority of J developers taking that root. Though the big named ones may dip their toes in the water.

Taking character customization to a whole new level. The only problem is that would make games so lifelike and people might prefer living in a videogame world rather than the real one, as there is hardly no difference, except in the videogame world, everything goes your way. That would be the worst apocalypse ever.

And also, you know how your characters sometimes run into walls, but just keep running, but don't move? With 4D, they'd run into a wall, stop, have a nosebleed, swear, wait a few minutes for the bleeding to stop, then get on with it. And after that, if they run into a wall again, they might break their nose, get sent to the hospital, and be out of commision for a month, real time. Needless to say, that would really suck as in a game.
