I've just received an email from the lovely Kyle Wynen. "Among the top news reporters of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII news. Content Manager and Podcast Host at FF-XIII.net" and I thought I'd write a nice open letter for all to see. You don't have to read this guys ;D.
It seems he has chosen to terminate our affiliation (a choice I assumed would be made by the admin rather than a member of staff) over and I quote "past poor treatment of our name on your forums, and for competitive reasons". Now this isn't much of a surprise to me as I was actually going to do the same thing just a few days ago when good old Kyll decided to post a news article taking information from Cathryn's scans without crediting either her or the site. "I can forgive those nonetheless though as those occurred last year, but still your uninspiring lack of professionalism at those times stands." Some would see that as unprofessional Kyll.
Honestly, yes we have thrown a few insults towards them, most of them nothing but harmless jokes which most people wouldn't get offended by. The poor treatment Kyll seems to be referring to (which I still maintain no one would get offended by) is probably quoting their podcast ("The BEST Final Fantasy XIII site"), pointing out how claiming they had a HD Final Fantasy XIII trailer when all they did was upscale the existing DVD trailers and the recent non-sourced scans I mentioned above. All of these apparently incredibly offensive remarks seem just to me. In any case, when you say we're "blatantly insulting our entire staff" you might want to have a read back and you'll see all of these blatant insults or what some would call facts are actually directed at you, not the entirety of FF-XIII.net. FFK, the rest of the staff and your forum members are all fine with me and it just seems to be you Kyll who has the incredible ability to piss people off.
Now to get down to the competitive reasons. We've been affiliated with FF-XIII.net for over a year and a half now. We meet your affiliation criteria and the fact you say "seeing as we've sent over some 17000 people your way and received substantially less from you, we're cutting that link." makes me wonder why you're affiliated with anyone else. We're actually one of, if not your most popular affiliate but you don't see anyone else being bumped off the list. Your over competitiveness for a FANSITE which isn't even yours is very strange when all they're supposed to be is some fun.
In any case my mini essay is finished and I hope it could in some way compare to your masterpiece. All in all affiliates are nothing more than links. Your vision of affiliates having "ties of friendship" isn't the reason for our removal from your list, it's the fact that you aren't getting as many hits as us. Affiliates barely give each other many hits anyway. You've apparently had us off the list for a day now and our hits have actually increased. The sad thing is that you spend your time on our forums just reading to see if we make fun of you and you seem to be keeping a constant eye on our hits. Fansites aren't about hits, they're about sharing your interests. Besides, we're better.
