This is about the first time u played ffx. did any of u have problems getting used to the sphere grid, well i managed to understand by the time of the blitz ball tounament. However my brothers and sisters all ways had trouble and needed my help with it.

I did however not complete the game the first time round beause i was using the standerd grid. To me it was not effective to uses as the chareaters would not level efficiently and required lots off leveling for them to become reliable in battle.

However it was less problematic with the expert grid. Have any of u had any of these problems at all.

I liked the sphere grid. When I first played FFX I had no idea what I was doing because I didn't listen to Rikku's tutorial. :P I was slightly stupid back then. Anyway I gave up on that playthrough and started again and I got used to it pretty quickly. I'd say it's my favourite levelling system out of any Final Fantasy because you were pretty free to get whatever abilities you wanted but the key spheres stopped you getting stupidly good abilities at the beginning of the game.

FFXII's license board was pretty similar but it's nowhere near as good as the spheregrid simply because you can complete it by just following the storyline and not having to do any extra training.

The standard sphere grid is linear, with all those damn locks you can only go one way and stop moving around the grid in the middle of the game. In expert, you get stuck at around Mt Gagazet, but then on, Kimahry can just steal those Level 3 spheres.

Expert sphere grid has nicer colours too.

FFX was my first game so i was clueless to what was the point of the game.

It is easy to use, since there is a tutorial about it. Then once you look at the grid yourself you can see how to map your path out.

How anyone could be confused by the Sphere Grid is truly beyond me. I found it to be one of the easiest systems out there. Especially since the Sphere Grid is nothing more then a glorified line with a few short branches. Not being able to customize my characters right off the back (other then skipping abilities) I found it to be pretty bland, though it does look quite pretty.

Im sorry but good god. :aldo: It's so damn easy to use I don't understand how anyone can be confused by it.

Rob, you couldnt even figure out how to change weapon which is pretty un-fucking-believable, so I guess anything can happen :cunning:

You'd have to be retarded not to know how the sphere grid works. D;

It's easy to use. But not when it's your actual first game.

when i got to near the end of the game, i went to monster arena, collected all spheres needed and deleted the ones on the grid, pu all plus 4s, etc, so all my status are 255... just luck is at 150 on all, and all nods are activated on the grib, like a Christmas tree lol

But took me 260hours to do so lol, just luck now... when i can be bothered to do it... just sad i did Penance, i wanted to fight him without Yojimbo :)

Saw a video on youtube, Penance was defeated with Rikku who used megalixir, Tidus who used Slice'n'Dice and Wakka with Attack Reels. 50 mins...

Anyways, I found the Sphere Grid easy and innovative, you could just fight everything and gain XP to evolve to lv 100 and stop there. It now took far more time to develop the characters, rising the difficulty a little bit, not to mention that it after a while took quite some XP to gaina a single sphere lv.. I got most of my characters upp to 255 in all stats, but the hp stopped at 25-30k. And then I started a new game and my "FFX save reflex" and a bug in the savesystem caused an overwrite of that 880hour save. Why didn't it just automatically save in an empty slot?!

the truth is I never listen to tutorials...and later on I try to figure out by myself how to use things, as for the sphere grid...well...I had no idea how to use it, nor how to play it, it was my 1st rpg btw that I completed (i started ff8 before but stuck unfortunately, was even more complicated to me than 10).
So the sphere grid... i found out how to operate it somewhere round the mihem highroad :ninja:

At first I hated the Sphere Grid! I was so used to the leveling up system of FFIX and Breath of Fire III-IV that when I first started FFX I thought it would take forever to build the character in every aspect.
But I quickly learned to love it, and now its my favorite way for leveling up the characters - finishing their grid and then allowing them to learn others for maximum support.

I hate FFXII's license board.
The characters made me feel that they dont have any personality when I needed to choose what they specialize in.
In the end I made everybody the same(more or less) and I felt that it made my party overpowered. I hope the new games will have better systems or something close to the sphere grid.

I really didn't like the sphere grid much it kinda sucked. I liked it when you battled you leveled all your stats OR if when you leveled you got to distrubute your own stats to where you want to build the character. that would end up being awesome

I'd love characters with really distinctive abilities that can't just be handed to a different character, again ~_~ I think fighting style for characters in earlier games added personality for them. FF12's system just didn't really inspire any feelings in me, since none of the characters were really actually attached to any ability or weapon ._.

I was not fond of the sphere grid, but it was better than the license board ._.;

I agree with you the License board to end up sucking. it was seriously no fun, but it put a limit on how powerful your character could be. So that was pretty good.

I didn't mind the Sphere Grid. Sure it was frustrating at times getting all the experience you needed to move and the only one or two stats going up, but it was nice to have specialised characters.

Yeah but it ended up makeing horrible sense. Of look at me im Tidus I have magic and Wakka's skills! ._. It just gave the concept away of Character boundaries/Limits. and it kinda ruined them in a way. I miss the old fassion way with Final Fantasy VII with the Materia.

If so-powerful-that-they-can-wipe-everything-off-the-board is a limit.

I want even MORE specialization than that ^_^ I'm looking forward to FFXIII and Versus because it looks like the weapons the characters have will belong to them. Both main characters appear to have distinctive weapons and fighting styles. I hope they keep it that way~

I hope they have it kinda like in Devil May cry 4 with Dante. Where you have different fighting styles and when you select that certain fighting style you get points to end up maxing it out and get more skills. That would be a great way to do that in FF Versus 13

:O An EXTREMIST! I hope XIII has a battle system more like X's than XII's, but I realise it probably won't, except with maybe some specialisation.

Yes, I am a conservative extremist nut job. D: Back to the basics! Let's see some white mages that can actually cast nothing but white magic! XD

No, really, not quite that much ^^; But I'd definitely like to get distinct skills back, even if some magic or even a few weapons for minor characters were shared.

That would be kinda boreing don't you think? it would be just like well Damn Final Fantasy V??? where only one class gets 1 type of skill. I hope at least other characters can get cure or heal w/e

Yesss..I hope they do specialize their skills. It's what made them them for me. Like, my friend would be talking about a character using his/her name, and I wouldn't know who he was talking about unless he said "The guy with the spear" or whatever xD

That, and the specialized abilities/weapons just made it funner to play ^_^

Yay, an agreer! ^___^

I don't mean they all just have one thing to do. Why can't you give them all several skills, but not have them all overlap each other, avoiding making them totally bland as actual game characters? XP

Feb 09 2008, 04:53 AM
Well if it was weapons that had something atleast close to the class like a swordsman class with all kinds od 2 handed weps, 1 handed weps, Spears, Shields. That would be unique. Same goes for Healers and Casters.

^_^ I just want them to be more unique than FFXII. The sphere grid was cool in my eyes, cuz no matter which skills I gave Tidus, I used the same ones with him. I think if they used something kinda like that for XIII, it'd be great. But, limiting the skills to only a few specific characters, if not only one, would be even more nice ^_^ I do like them having their own special, set weapons though xD

Versus is going to be very much like KH in my view.
But I really hope FFXIII's system will be extreme like blank said above, as for now Lightning seems to be able to use close range combat, long range combat and magic...... and to me thats a bad thing.
Id really like the characters to need to rely on the other party members to survive, so each battle would full of strategy!

I dont like job classes and stuff, its like there telling u what to do, which is kind of limiting to me. i like to have control of how my characters develope, and kind of mix up there powers. e.g. i would give each character there own black magic and white magic so that they r more usfull and not just stick with one majic type, like a usless white mage that only heals and cant survive long in battles. and each character will get there own summonds, its not fair that one dude gets all the sommonds and the rest r just shitty magic casters which end up doing little damage to bosses.

any way that what i like to do on my ff games :)

You choose what type of sphere grid you want to use when you press New Game. You don't "get it". To be honest it's pointless anyway. Just a way to make the game harder.

appeared. Like seriously, you would call the License Board frustrating XD

I didn't pay attention to it cause someone told me not too lol by some miracle i was able to get to Bevelle without even moving my characters on the grid lol(though it took me forever to do it) after that i started a new game and skipped rikku's tutorial and that time i looked at the grid and it was quite easy to understand.

I've nearly completed the sphere grid, and I'm filling in any empty nodes with stat spheres. The way it's set up, there's almost no forward planning needed at all-- It just takes you there, really. It was becoming annoying moving my characters one or two nodes at a time, but with the levelling trick everything's a hell of a lot easier. The downside is I don't get the gil payouts like I do in the Omega Dungeon, but I can get 55 levels from a single battle :w00t:
