What should we expect from 2008?

Ok, a year and a 7 months ago we had the first official note on Final Fantasy XIII and its counterparts Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII which came to be known as the Fabula Nova Crystallis, an ambitious project like the Compilations of Final Fantasy VII and the Ivalice Alliance.
The official note came along with two trailers, one showing scenes of Final Fantasy XIII and the other showing us Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
Since then speculations came forth, we have speculated every single second of each footage we got back in E3 2006.
The fanbase was excited and everytime they announced a new trailer on the next event, we would get hyped. Even if it was a trailer shown at the Closed Mega Theater, we always faced it as "soon we are getting new information to speculate about". For the rest of 2006 and all of 2007, we got nothing. We have milked everything we could milk from those few minutes we got in 2006, and we haven't seen anything new to chat or speculate about.

So a new year is on the horizon, 2008, supposedly a great year for the PS3 in general. Will it be a great year for us Final Fantasy fans? What are you looking forward to for this year? What do you think they will show us in 2008??

I personally am trying to think small. Whatever happens there will be a trailer released to the public this year. I can say that without a doubt. Square jumped the gun a bit announcing all their titles so early on. I'm not sure if it was to show something was being done or if Sony asked them to showcase the titles to reinforce consumer loyalty for the PS3 but it was far too early. Screenshots are also going to be release sparsely across the year, just like they have this year. Whenever a trailer is shown in private, screenshots come out a couple of months later.

A release date would be nice but I doubt any would even be mentioned until late 2008. A demo is very unlikely but Square did release the FFXII demo fairly early.

I'm with you in the sense they will be releasing a new trailer to the public for sure, and maybe we can expect screenshots of the TGS 2007 trailers in this year's Jump Festa or shortly after. Yeah next year there will be several new screenshots for sure, but shouldn't Final Fantasy XIII be in over 30% of its development stage? If so, I think we can also expect for a release of the official site, and at least a third trailer released to the public somewhere during the second semester.

Release date I find unlikely, maybe by late in the year as you said, and I don't see a demo coming out yet either. Though that would be hot!

Now, as for the content of said new material, I'm thinking they will be revealing a couple new characters in the public trailers (not only the 2 that have been shown in the TGS trailers, but at least 1 or 2 more) and Versus will show a bit more dramatic scenes, but no new faces besides the ones shown in the TGS. For Final Fantasy XIII I think it's safe to expect some light into the battle system and the game's innovations at least. I don't think it'll be the year that Versus fans will get to see in-game footage yet though, so probably no concrete news on its system besides things Nomura "plans" to implement.

It's just that there is no knew info for the FNC compilation and I doubt any REALLY good things to come in 2008 either, unless its the very last part of the year.

I have learned to wait and to be patient for the FNC games.

They had some news on MGS4 about a week ago maybe? Saying that it NEEDS to sell PS3's, because of such high production costs. They already got 60 dollars, from me.

MGS4 will be the highlight of 2008 for me, unless MGO releases too.

And if we get anything for FFXIII, it might be a 2009 release date.

Well, I think it wouldn't be right to think it'll be as slow as this year. Clearly SE released the trailers way too soon, and then that results in us waiting a ridiculous amount of time for any bit of info and/or trailers. Well, last time they released an estimated percentage amount of how close they are to being done, it was like 13%, and that was a long while ago, am I right? So, I expect, like Vincent said, for them to be around like 30% now and later on in '08, quite far and a much higher %.

So, I think it's safe to say we'll see a few new trailers next year, and an estimated release date isn't that unlikely. Sure, it might not be a concrete release date, but I'm sure we'll see a fair estimate later on in the year.

As for Versus, not sure, but I doubt it'll be anywhere near as much info as XIII. There might be another trailer released, but I don't expect too much more to come out about it next year.

I always felt that the whole 13% done thing was a bit staged, I'd have expected them to have had more done by then considering when they started, but they've been stretching themselves out these last few years with all of the spin-offs, sequels and prequels they've been making so maybe it was a fairly accurate estimate.

i think there will be some more new trailers for both ffxiii games and some more screen shots, probobly of the new characters and mabey summons. also the first game play footage of vxiii and more additional footage of xiiis game play.

Well from what I've heard it's very much action based which is unlike your old school RPG games but KH pulled that style off well and this battle system has been likened to it so I'm looking forward to it. I just hope it's nothing like FFXII's battle system because let's face it, that battle system was truly diabolical.

I think it'll be more like Dirge of Cerberus than anything (really an action game), like Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry, but with more than enough RPG elements too. And yeah it would be nice to see some ingame footage of it, but I dont see it coming yet in 2007 (for us, non-Closed Mega Theater mortals)

Well, it's obviously the main title of the Compilation, seeing as how it's part of the main numbered series. Not being a dick, just saying.
