I use a cable modem for my PS3, but does it really matter what kind of cable modem you use? Just wanted to know because I don't want to buy one then find out that I had to call the cable people to register it and crap.

That shouldn't be a problem less than a month away from 2008. My PS3 is directly hooked up to our modem by wifi, no switch between. But if you're speaking of switches, such as D-Link, it would be stupid if you had to call in technicians. You should be fine, never heard of such problems myself.

I just wanted to know that if any type of cable modem would work for it. I don't use WiFi or routers......

Well, depending on how fart away your PS# would be from your Wireless source, you most likely get a better connection with the cable modem anyway.

So like..... Just buy a cable modem, hook it up, its online? (I don't want to call the cable people and have to register it >_> )

I guess, I don't use a cable modem. Just buy the EXACT same kind you use now to hook it up when you steal it from your sister. Even if you may have to call and register, you would know for sure it would work.

I shouldn't have to register it because I have cable connection in my room. It wouldn't make any sense if I had to.....

i still don't understand why you don't get a wireless router dude. makes life less complicated

True, just a bit of setup at you're ready to go wireless. Ask for one that has something called AOSS (Airstation One-Touch Secure System), then you just have to push a button on the modem/router and you're ready to go, takes seconds. I don't have it, but PS3 has the functionality for it.
