I just downloaded this game for my PS2. Is it any good? From what I've seen it's like role playing school life with some Action RPG combat at midnight, right?

The best way to describe it is: Dating/School life Sim + Dungeon Crawl

Yeah no kidding.
I just started it. I'm at the part where you go to Tartarus for the first time. I hate how so many characters have hair hanging over their eyes, IT'S NOT COOL. It looks gay.
But other than that it's pretty interesting.

I've read a few things about that game. It sounds pretty interesting, but I don't know how to feel about the spell casting part. Isn't this the game where the students shoot themselves in the head to cast a spell? Kind of creepy and gruesome but interesting all the same. I may give it a try one day.

It's great. the whole shooting in the head has a reason to be that way and it doesn't show anything "gore" in the process. It's just psycho, but then again, all about Shin Megami Tensei series (which originated Persona 1, 2s and 3) is psycho

Hmmm, I have tried Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne...and it was pretty cool, too. Almost like a very dark but much more interesting Pokemon game. =p
I'll probably play Persona 3 sometime in the near future. :)

I'll probably play Persona 3 sometime in the near future. :)If I may, I would like to recommend you Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 (for PS2), they are also SMT spin-offs like Persona. And the oldschool Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PS1).

I don't think SMT originated with Persona 1. There were SMT games on the NES I think. Anyway, I like the games but haven't finished any. I have Persona 2 and Nocturne, both feel "different" and both are very difficult.

I didn't say they were originated with Persona 1 (nor with PS1). Yeah there were SMT games on SNES :P Persona 1 originated the Persona spin-offs (Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment and Persona 3)

I recently finished P3 a few weeks ago.
I personally enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would. Aigis ended up being my favorite though. XD
Battles were fun as well. The only gripe I had was that I wished the main character only had one persona to deal with. That was tricky to get used to, but after awhile, you get used to it.
Also of importance, the US is getting the release of P3:FES sometime in April. Basically, it's the first game with added content, as well as the sequel that was called "Episode Aegis" in Japan. The original story with added content is now called "The Journey" and the sequel is called "The Answer".
