PS3 online.
I just got a PS3. I'm so freaking happy. I'm hiding it from my dad though, cause if he finds it, he'll take it away. (He hates videogames so much.)
Anyways, I got Virtua Fighter 5 (God, I LOVE Fighters)
Wow, I never expected this thing to be so freaking huge, it's like 10 pounds, and gets warm pretty quick.

Heh. Goody. Another forum member. Looks like you've been here since the start though. I'm still a noob.
Oh, PSN, sorry, I can't use online with my PS3, cause I don't have broadband.
(AOL is a disease.)

Lucifer, I remember you told me to hide it away in a suit case and bring it home. I just asked my friend to drive me to a BestBuy afterschool, (I lied to my dad and said I had to stay at school to finish up an assignment. I said my friend would take me home afterwards)
So, I went picked up a PS3, played it for about 2 hours, and hid the box in my sisters closet (which is a big mess btw) and my PS3 is in an old backpack I used last year.
So, evil and coniving, but hell, I finally got one, after all that complaining I did.

I have the ability to easily avoid conflict with my dad, and I can get away with anything, especially hiding stuff.
Plus, I actually feel happy now (something I haven't felt for 2 years). IT feels like that tingly warm feeling you get at Christmas time. So, as long as I stay happy (meaning, as long as I have PS3) my dad will see a change in my behavior, and will (or at least I hope) lighten up a bit himself.
Oh, and I got a 60GB.

if you have the money, I serious advise you make the plunge and get one. Even me, an obedient son of my parents, REBELLED!!!
I just decided, it's now or never.
And, if you do get a PS3, go for the 60. If they're out, you've no choice but the 80. And, the 40 is more of the "oh well, this'll have to do" PS3, since it's not as great as the others. Especially since it has no backwards compatibility.

I take a bigger risk by playing it in my living room. I give myself an hour before they come home to clean up, but the only problems occur when my parents unexpectadley come home early. My dad has done that a few times while I was playing my PS2, until he got pissed off enough to smash it up.
I swear though, if he does happen to see my PS3 and then tries to smash it, I'll fight him for it, cause I didn't spend $500 just so he could smash a PS3.

If you do get a PS3, try to go for the 60GB if there are any left, cause they're the best kinds to have. They have full Backwards compatibility because it uses the PS2 hard drive (Emotion Engine). The 80GB has limited backwards compatibility because it uses PS2 emulation, and the 40GB has no backwards compatibility.
But, then again, it all depends on how much money you have. Just get the kind you need.
(eg-If you have a PS2 lying around at home, getting a 40GB would make sense.)

Mine arrives this week ^^ It's a 40gb Ceramic White model. I didn't care about backwards compatibility since I have a working PS2 here.

Warhawk, Enchanted Arms, AC (still haven't played it), R&C:ToD, Folklore, and a couple more....

Blu Ray Disc
Nov 19 2007, 02:12 AM
I'm not too sure about Warhawk, but Enchanted Arms is a decent RPG to pick up if you want to start off. Uh, Rachet and Clank is that funkified awesome action title, Folklore is also an RPG, but I don't know too much about it.
If you want a fighter game pick Virtua Fighter 5. It's just like Tekken. and it's fun, at least to me.
Lair... was not too great. it got like a 5 / 10 in some places. You should either borrow it from a friend or forget it.
If you're old enough get Resistance Fall of Man (It's old and a shooter, but it was fun, when I played it.), Ninja Gaiden Sigma (This one is a remake of Ninja Gaiden Black, for the Xbox)
Heavenly Sword is a great game, but it's too expensive for what it's got, since you only get about 6-8 hours of gameplay on it. If you're gonna play it, either rent it, or buy it when the price goes down.
Dynasty Warriors Gundam (I don't recommend this unless you're a Dynasty Warriors fan.)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, (another shooter, it got some great ratings, this one is like Indiana Jones style in the forest.)

That's about all I can think of right now.
OH, and LUCKY. You got the new white PS3. I really like that one. If my PS2 still worked, I would have bought that one too, but since I needed the backwards compatibility, I just picked up my 60GB.
But in the end, heh, who cares? As long as we get PS3's it doesn't matter what color it is.
Oh, another question: Does the white PS3 come with a Spiderman Blu Ray movie? Just curious.

I got Ninja Gaiden Sigma coming and probably arriving the same day as the PS3 :) Looks like an awesome game with lots of replayability too!
As for Virtua Fighter 5, I want that soooo badly. I'm an oldschool videogamer you know... I remember playing VF1 on the arcade when I was 9 or something. It was such a new experience to me (back then there was no Tekken or Dead or Live, Virtua Fighter is the genesis of the style!). I also played VF2 a lot on my friend's Sega Saturn, but since then I didnt follow the series anymore. Now I have the chance to pick it up once more :D I do want a second controller if I get that though, I have a good group of rl friends who can come by and give me a nice challenge whenever ^^
Ratchet & Clank reminds me of games such as Earthworm Jim, Wild 9 and Blasto (who remembers these? ;D) so it has to be a fun experience :D
Folklore is a mix of action and RPG actually. But I have heard mixed reviews on its length and replayability so I'm not too sure on that title. The graphics do look freaking amazing though.
Uncharted is on my list already, it seems like a mix of FPS with Tomb Raider. Something good must come out of it XD
Resistance Fall of a Man... I have heard it's a good game too, placed itself well on the PS3 Exclusives Ranking done by GameTrailers recently. I'll check out one or two reviews to see how it is.

I'm getting Assassin's Creed for sure too. And still unsure about Warhawk because I dont know how my connection will fare on the PS3.

What do you think about The Eye of Judgment btw? Seems really interactive, and several developers want to explore the PSEye deeper it seems. So might be a good investment...

And yeah everybody tells me the same thing about Heavenly Sword: very short game. :/

Blu Ray Disc
Nov 19 2007, 03:40 AM
I saw the Heavenly Sword gameplay, and I personally don't care how much it is, I'm gonna go pick it up soon. I want to play that game. It looks too good to pass by. Assassin's creed is also amazing, but I'm not old enough for it, IT is rated M right? I'm only 16, plus, I can't really ask my parents to get it for me, cause then they'll know I have a PS3. Good thing is that I'm turning 17 this January, so only a little more to wait, and by then, Killzone 2 will be coming out, and that is the single best shooter I've ever seen in my life.
Fable, as cool as it seems, I'm not too fond of it sadly. I'm gonna borrow Ninja Gaiden from my friend, (the same one who drove me to get a PS3.)

Exire
Nov 19 2007, 10:41 AM
Assassins Creed is definitely M rated. I heard from gamespot I think that they milked the M rating to a degree since when you kill someone with your dagger or whatever it can be a bit...well messy. I really want to get that one, I have it on my Christmas List.

I'm surprised Oblivion wasn't mentioned here, unless I missed it among the jumble of words. The graphics are really amazing, as they are on most of the titles I have. There is so much to do, it could have easily passed as a decent MMORPG. Like KOS-MOS (love the name, massive Xeno fan), I have Virtua Fighter and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. I really enjoy both of those games, though Virtua Fighter is a bit limited in the personal value I have for it. I sort of bought it on a whim when I got my PS3.

I gave a glance at Folklore and I think I'd settle for a rent on that one. The graphics look like their from the PS2 and I certainly wouldn't pay 60 bucks for a PS3 game if it had PS2 graphics. I'm not all that big on graphics. I'm an RPG fan at heart and we all have heard it all the time, "its about the story not the graphics" which is mostly true. However, it didn't impress me like a PS3 game should, especially if its full price.

Besides Assassin's Creed I haven't noticed much that has caught my attention. There's FFXIII off in the distance but I'm hardly 1/4 through FFXII so I'm not too concerned about that. I tend to buy RPG's and adventure games over anything else. FPS' scare me, I haven't owned one since Goldeneye and last time I was massacred in some army game. RPG's are actually a bit lacking with the PS3 which is too bad. I haven't looked into Enchanted Arms much but it got pretty bad ratings. Not that I go off of ratings alone but I did see some samples of the voice work and it seemed quite disjointed. Maybe waiting until FFXIII is a good idea.

Oh, I almost forgot MGS4! That is one game I will definitely get. Granted, I've only played MGS3 and me playing the other two is probably unlikely but...I dont know. My gut just says I must have it. Haha.

But Kosmos, if your dad likes to watch movies, take revenge and smash his DVD-player and say you hate movies (just like your dad hates games). And ask him what's so wrong about games. They're no worse than several movies...

Blu Ray Disc

Ok. I'm a rebel, but only indirectly. If I do smash his DVD player (which I use) it'll only put him in pissing rampage, and he'll probably destroy everything I have. Which isn't cool. I wanna keep him happy, since he is my dad and all. I love him, but he can just get annoying sometimes. I just have to deal with it until I go to college.
As for Oblivion, I've heard of it, but sadly never played it.

Yeah I actually admire Bill Gates, unlike that other guy who's supposedly richer than him (some Mexican, forgot his name) who just spends tons of money on statues and crap, Gates actually supports a multitude of philanthropic actions around the world and that makes him a better man in my eyes.

Almost. Not quite. See, my parents don't know I have a PS3. And they absolutely hate videogames (what a bummer.) and therefore, they'd probably give me some crappy gift or money (please be money). So in that case, I tend to actually get my own presents, for christmas anyways. I'm not allowed to buy anything really, since my parents are cheap as hell and all they can think about is "save money."
And of course, I'm always, fuck no. It's my money, I'll do what I want with it. They don't know I spend it though. I do everything in secrecy. Like my PS3. The last game they ever bought me was Final Fantasy X-2, and that was 4-5 years ago. Every game I got since then, like 10 or something are bought in secrecy with my own cash. So I'm really limited in what I do, but hell, I can still get the things I want so w/e.
Only thing is, I need some money.

Nov 24 2007, 04:13 AM
They think that it distracts me from my studies. Hell. I'm Asian. I don't need to study to pass. (Don't mind the stereotype.)
When they bought me a PS2 (I was surprised they actually said yes to that. But, back then they were pretty neutral about video games.) they said to study hard and don't let games distract me. I've had an A average the whole time and my PS2 never distracted me. Then the beginning of my Freshman year, they had a sudden change of heart, and started hating videogames. For no apparent reason. It was actually this summer that my dad smashed my PS2. He said I was "playing it too much." My mom, actually probably wouldn't care, but she always seems to agree with my dad.
So, ever since then they just hated video games with a passion.
But, it doesn't bother me too much. I can still play my PS3 in secrecy, and w/e.

The funny thing is, I was watching a video game news report on NBC on THanksgiving. I think it was NBC anyways. They were showing the history of videogaming. It ended with the Wii, and didn't mention the PS3 at all, but that doesn't matter. One of the historians on that show said that videogames actually helped advance the future of technology so that we have such high tech stuff today. It was just ideas that motivated things such as HD TV's, hightech computers, more memory, etc.
I wish my dad would have watched it. He probably would have puked and said something like, "Get that crap out of my face."
Oh, well. I'm still happy.

Is there any way for the PS3 to read a text document off a memorystick? If so, just in case, you should make a fake log and put it into your PS3 and show him that you barely have played anything if you're busted. And say you got it second hand for like...100 bucks...with the games...

Blu Ray Disc
Nov 25 2007, 01:48 AM
heh. I wish I could do that, but I have no memory stick, no USB flash drive, or any of that stuff. And even if I did say that I bought it second hand, he wouldn't believe me. He thinks just like I do, but without the fun. He's a lot strict-er than I am, a lot more, cause I'm lazy and really lax about things. If he found out i had a PS3, heheh. Let's just say he won't find out.
I'll probably pull it out of my bag right before I leave for college, and say something like, "hey dad. Guess what. I had this pS3 for 2years. YOu never knew. Mwahahaha."
He'll probably follow me all the way to college just to smash my PS3. LOL.

Well. I when I went to Best Buy on Friday (Black Friday/Nov 23.) I bought Heavenly Sword.
When I went home, my mom said, "I know you bought a game."
I was like, "OH SHIT. They found out." in my head.
But, she was actually talking to my sister. My sister came with me and bought Zelda for her DS.
Now, that gave me a lot of relief. She hadn't found out I have a PS3.
Plus, now that I think of it, it would have been impossible for them to find out. I plan out everything too well to let them figure out I have it.
If it were my sister that was hiding a PS3, it would have been found in I'd say about a week, because she never plans anything and leaves evidence lying around everywhere.
That's why my mom said she knew she bought a game. She was playing her DS awfully a lot during the day and she left the game case out.
Oh, something you should know. My parents don't bitch on my sister for playing games, so she's safe with her DS. But they absolutely hate it when I play. It's bias....

Ninja Gaiden is really hard. I'm up to the City of tairon. Confuses the hell out of me. I heard that the game creators are trying to make each new ninja gaiden title harder than the last one. Apparently Ninja gaiden 2 is supposed to be impossible.
Did you die so much that the game asks you if you want to "give up the ways of the ninja?"
I said yes, and put me in Easy mode. It's actually more like you become Ayane's Ninja Dog and she makes fun of you the whole game because you suck at playing Ninja Gaiden. it's implied anyways.

I don't see that as a good thing really. :/ I like a bit of a challenge but if they want to make it near impossible why don't they just add more difficulty settings? Too hard makes a game lame and boring, especially if its the default setting.

I think that Ninja Gaiden feels like Normal when it's on Ninja Dog.

I like the challenge rate of NGS really X) I grew up playing Atari, NES and Genesis action/adventure games. Those were hard as hell (not to say stupid and sometimes didn't have an end at all).
For me, playing NGS is like going back to my origins, except with better graphics and gameplay (and many other things lol) :D
