i was curious, since, my internet sucks and probably can't download firmware too fast. I want to know what firmware is on the 80GB PS3 when you first buy it? I was guessing ver 1.80.
And what is the firmware on the 60GB when you first buy it? Ver 1.0?

Well it's hard to say. You can never tell until you turn it on. If you're internet is slow, you can always download the firmware off the Official PS3 site somewhere else and put it on a memory stick or card, then install it that way.

^Shakugan No Shana?
I'm trying to get as much info as possible before I actually get a PS3, cause I'm mainly worried about backwards compatibility.
Anyways, yeah, my internet is crap, (Dial up=heart attack) and I wanted to know about firmware updates, so when I get a PS3, I can play my older PS2 games on it. Doesn't firmware 1.80 make PS2 games look better or something?
And, since I can't use internet to hook up a PS3, I was wondering if I could use a USB flashdrive to transfer the firmware, which brings up another question: Does a PS3 have ports for USB flashdrives?
firmware comes with games also, the update needed to play the game will come with it..
Didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
So, if anyone knows any info that can help me please, post.

I though the 60GB also brings 4 USB ports? *didn't really look at my 60GB before switching lol*
Yes you can transfer from PC->PS3 if you have the USB cable connected to each other that is, also with a compatible Memory Stick Duo, PSP->PS3.
1.80 supposely upscales PS1/PS2 titles, which it really does work comparing my PS2 & PS3 on my screen.
Rachet & Clank Future requires 1.92 firmware to play(the disc brings 1.92 firmware). Most likely other new PS3 games also.
