It's easy to control, yea you can run around, it's quite like KH.
It's all still random battles, a few battles are like that of ffxii's. But you actually get to dodge tapping the square button. Also the materia is great, you can put around 6 on you to use them to your advantage, much love ;D. Leveling up is a bit of a bitch but i can't complain, its a brilliant game, it's only around 15 hours long, well it was first time around because i leveled up by doing all missions. xD.
But it's only like 14 hours if you just follow the story, definatly worth getting because the controls are nothing to grumble about, and the graphic's are the best i've seen on the psp so far.
