I don't feel like FF VIII got the credit it deserved. To many people said the story was boring, or simply "FF VII IS BETTER!" In my opinion, you can't really compare the Final Fantasy games. Most people just play the games for the fun or the action, I actually do it for the story. To many people see games as a "kiddy thing." But games like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid, actually have things that you learn from them. (By the way, this is just the philosopher in me speaking, lol). Most Final Fantasy present real life issues.

Anyway, back to the main idea. FF VIII has been walking in the shadows of FF VII. FF VII revolutionized gaming as we knew it. It set the standards for all games, it had the best graphics of it's time, and a story that was good enough for a movie (which it later became). FF 8 did this also. But because it came after FF VII, people simply thought that FF8 was a "wanna be FFVII." Or that Squall was just a "wanna be Cloud." If you actually play the game, Squall is probably one of the most unique characters in the final fantasy series.

FF8 also revolutionized the graphics world just like FFVII did. It was the first time the Final Fantasy characters were given human figures in real time game play...All thanks to nomura who simply stole Gackt's look(Famous japanese singer, who is now casted as Genesis in Crisis Core). Gackt himself gave the general look to most of nomura's characters in his games. If you notice, every character that Nomura has created can easily be related to gackt in terms of look.

Also if you notice, most of Nomura's main characters in his Final Fantasy games, all have serious depressing issues. Nomura tends to recycle his ideas, meaning that there's something he wants to teach us. Nomura stated that he will make FF Versus XIII like the real world in the sense that the characters will have reall life issues. This "Storm" character seems to be another one of Nomura's dark characters. But that doesn't mean he's a "wanna be Cloud, or a Wanna be Squall".

You guys might not even care about what I've just stated here. But I can say, I'm a unique person (not to sound cocky), but I look for the meaning in everything.

So, just play the game as it is, and don't compare them. Look and try to learn from them, because believe or not, even you might have similar issues as the characters do.

Anyway...yeah, I'm done typing. My fingers are tired... Later.

First of all you made this thread twice. Secondly you didn't need to make a thread, there are three others you could have posted this in (because people are stupid), and thirdly nothing you point to can make this game any good.

Welcome, don't worry you WILL get used to Desi. lol

I absolutely loved FFVIII, story was excellent, side quests were genious, and the characters were ones I actually cared for. It was brilliant, and I agree that you can't compare Final Fantasy's as they are all entirely different. It's like compairing FF1 for the SNES or something with FFVII on the PS. lol

I'm with you buddy. Gamers tend to be too much emotive and kiddy like when judging games, thats the truth. For me FFVIII is a great game with a great story and unique characters... Squall being one of the best cause of the human problems and doubts he had along the journey. But people are stupid and it will always be like this. People complain about the battle system and its complexity, but it were one of the best, cause it allowed the player to customize his character ina seemless way, and even in the end of the game you were learning how to improve and make better junctions. well, I too am tired of typing.

PS: try to get used with desi.

When it comes to the characters like Squall and Rinoa, I had a lot of thing between both of them. It's just like, they're completing each other. At first, Squall starts as an introverted, antisocial, and quite moody guy, but deep in his hearts, he's the first person to know what must to be done. On the other hand, Rinoa came into his life and started to know him more. And of course, when she fell into coma, he's the only guy felt worried and started to open up with her. When I think again, it's like... wow, he's changed and without Rinoa, maybe... he won't be able to survive... I don't really care about the battle system, but so far... there are some GF that remained exclusive in Final Fantasy VIII like Brothers, Cerberus, Pandemona, Mini Mog, Doomtrain, Eden, and also... Moomba!! Wow... I like the story so far, and Squall and Rinoa too...
