At the moment my human team are not running synergist or sentinel.

I have some pulsework type as my faithful sentinel right now. He has never been swapped out of my paradigms since I got him.

But my very favourite monster in my possession right now is Gigantaur! (bet you're not surprised looking at my avatar)

Its just so funny the way that he dwarfs everything and the camera has to zoom so far back lol!
Also Late bloomers ftw!

Golden chocobo. Incredibly powerful. I thought Odin was cool but it's so shitty. I have a flanitor for medic but I hate it, it always dies because he's got too little HP.

Just so you know, Odin gets ridiculously powerful once you reach the end of his Crystarium and has the distinction of being one of the only monsters that can get a full six ATB slots.

Right now I'm using Lightning/Green Chocobo/Twilight Odin, which are Ravager 8/Medic 66/Commando 54 respectively.

...Looks like Lightning's maximum Level is 13, and she gas about 900ish in Strength/Magic when she gets there. But it's SO EXPENSIVE to upgrade her and Odin. :(

You guys are clearly way ahead of me in the game. I've only seen Tonberry and he One Hit all of my guys. Not seen any golden chocobos or Odins yet :)

My Gigantuar is called Pat though. Never swapping him out. Never!

The Gigantuar is a terrible choice for your party, unless you infuse enough abilities to rid him of Fettered Magic. Your magic stat decides the duration of a Synergist's buffs, and things like Defaith and Fettered Magic that lower your Magic stat or "effective damage" also reduce the duration of positive status effects cast by that character.

Slight spoilers below.

Odin is a semi-storyline fight and is a unique monster of the Late Bloomer category. His stats are initially terrible, and only gets good with a very expensive investment. There is also only one Golden Chocobo, but it is not fought. You obtain it automatically from a hidden treasure sphere later on in the game.

I think mine is around lvl 45 right now, but he's still weaker then the golden chocobo who has more than 1k of ATK. Anyway I don't have any monsters left to fight so it's really not a problem, unless the final boss with the paradox scope turned on is tougher.

But Gigantuar is still a better choice than Serah am I right?
Is it possible that I can catch one of the baby sized cactuars? If so what class are they? I only fought one and he killed my whole team. Funny I beat the gigantuar but not the small cactuar...

JAY ESS WAI KAY, Twilight Odin's level caps out at 99, and his strength will come out even higher than the Golden Chocobo's if you build him right. Add on to this the fact that he gets a full six ATB bars and he's clearly a superior monster- if you have the time.

...No. You are completely wrong. The only thing that gives Gigantuar an edge is having Bravery/Faith, which again is less useful because of Fettered Magic. Since most bosses and stronger enemies have the ability to either remove buffs or induce a mass array of status ailments, Bravery and Faith often end up being little more than a Dispel Shield to protect Vigilance, Protect, and Shell from being removed. While Serah doesn't get the -ga buffs (which affect the whole party but last about half the time), she does get access to all the same basic buffs as Noel and her magic is so high that they can stay on for most of a long fight if they don't somehow get Dispelled. If you infused and got rid of the Fettered Magic, then the Gigantuar would be a better Synergist than either playable character.

If you want to know whether or not a monster is tameable, you press the right bumper to bring up the enemy info and look at the little thing that tells you their role and whether or not you can catch them. This was explained in-game through tutorials. Tutorials with pictures, I might add.

Okay for the sake of argument lets say you're right. But just so you know, not everyone likes number crunching on a single player story based game. I just wanna have some fun with my favourite characters. So maybe a few fights will be harder than they need to be. Its not an MMO so its not a big deal.

In my version of the game Serah is useless and Gigantuar pwns ok! ^_^

Oh and I don't touch libra scope or any of that extra BS they put in the game. I'm old skool.

Not for the sake of argument, I'm right. I am actually looking at the physical guide, and the in-game primers right now.

No, in your version of the game you don't like Serah so you use Gigantuar.

No, you're not old school. You're an idiot. You have failed every single basic function of this game, including the story system as evidenced by your inability to continue on when it is literally unavoidable if you're collecting fragments. Ignoring the tools the game gives you so you don't have to crawl the internet doesn't make you some kind of classic game or cool guys. It makes you an immense douchebag who has wasted time for people who are here waiting to give help to someone who can't help themselves.

Someone who actually NEEDS to go to the internet to find the information they're looking for, not a lazy jackass who somehow thinks that by avoiding the Bestiary he's made himself a pretty cool bro. And for the record, Libra (or some version of it) has always been in the Final Fantasy games. At least since 5, there has always been a skill that shows you more detailed information about an enemy in battle. The only change in 13-2 is that it's available at any time, you simple have to complete it by trial and error rather than by using a skill to reveal all the information for a few seconds.

Please, please get out. I doubt that the administration of this website are going to tolerate your dickbagery for very long.

Not to mention Libra actually makes the other party member make more accurate attacks on enemies. IMO more realistic.

Out of me and you, you are being the dick. I have done nothing to upset you bro.
And read the thread title next time eagle eye. It doesn't say what is the most effective setup now does it?
Just say your favourite monsters and move along.

Omg that was a lighthearted joke! Of course Serah is actually better. I'm just expressing my disdain for her.

In the early-ish stages of gameplay I was helped out a lot by my COM Dragoon, also Bunkerbeast has to be one of my favourite SEN's at the moment... that is until I grasp upon another coloured Chocobo. Fav COM's atm are gotta be Omega and my Golden Chocobo :3

I'm currently using:

Twilight Odin (even though he's expensive as hell to level up.) >_<
Amodar
Lightning
Bunkerbeast
Golden Chocobo
White Chocobo (not only because he is a medic, but also when it is leveled up it will win most if not all the chocobo races.) ^_^

I like the chocobos the most, but I still need to catch the Black Chocobo.
I am leveling up all the different colored chocobos to the max!
I also have Lightning (maxed out), and I am trying to level up the Metallicataur (think I spelled it wrong) and Twilight Odin (just need about 20 more levels, but too expensive!).
Out of all of them I like Lightning the most. I taught her Firaga, Bizzaga, Thundaga, and Aeroga.
What other good moves can she learn?

I'm assuming Lightning is probably everybody's fave ravager, and has pretty much been a constant in my party since getting her. The other constant, which honestly surprised me, is the Goblin Chieftain. He maxes out at a high HP...around 8000, and is a very good sentinel. Plus its feral link ability gives everybody bravery, veil, vigilance, protect, shell...and something else, can't think of it now though. So for me that is my favorite (other than Lightning and Odin of course), he has been great for me.

Well I'm not really sure what I wanna end up with.

But my previous setup was:

SEN - Silver Chocobo (always used it, since I didn't build a senitel until I got this fom Academia 4xx)
COM - Dragoon (Very cheap to max, a good add in early gameplay)
RAV - (First RAV I built was a Behemoth, can't remember the right name, but it ended up a great add, though it did cost quite a bit. Maxed out at lvl 70 with well above 1k magic).
MED - Flanitor (Early Esunada or what its called helped out a lot, and the monster is easy to max)

Pretty much completes my first monsters.

What I'm working on now:

RAV - Lightning (simply cause shes one of my fav chars. Currently working on auto-faith, other than that shes pretty much complete)
COM - Chichu (Pretty much complete, missing auto-bravery)
COM - Omega (Work in progress. Level 51 atm, very expensive sadly)
SEN - Silver Chocobo (For some reason I'm loving this guy so I'm simply keeping it. Also the chocobo I use for races. Awesome bird :P)
MED - Varies between Green Chocobo, White Chocobo and Flanitor. However, I don't use monsters for Medic roles so they're pretty much left out.
SYN - Currently working on Sazh (Maxed out his lvl, so some HP, some Magic adds and some other useful skills and hes done. Nice add to my pack whenever I need a buff)

Thats about it. I tried a lot more monsters but these are the ones I kept using and felt was worth the invest. Apparently I should build Twilight Odin. But building Omega is hell enough so if i find time for it once I'm done I guess I'll start that :P

Sidenote, I only completed the game. Didn't close a single gate yet, nor use scope yet.

Also, I'm still looking for challenging bosses.... Any interesting bosses coming up?

I'm using:

1) Lightning
2) Jihl
3) Sazh

Unoriginal, I know. But I always seem to make it in battle, so it's all good.

COM- Chichu, without question
RAV- Cloudburst, again, without question
MED- Green Chocobo was great once you infused it with Cactuarina's and Flanitor's abilities

The other roles? LOL, never used them. The game was easy.

Sazh is the best SYN in the game. I have yet to get Light and Amodar (yeah... I still don't have them) but I'm sure they're amazing, too.

I mean, it's pretty obvious all the DLC monsters will be superior to the ones in the disc, anyway.
