Meh, I don't really care about this that much. Its basically just like all these other disasters that have been predicted. Why predict this when it could have happened a long time ago?

Post your thoughts on it.

Which could have happened a long time ago, Global Warming itself or the disasters it is supposed to produce in theory?

Any theory. That was my point when I said "Why predict [insert randomness] when it could have happened a long tim ago?"

Hm...when you say "other disasters that have been predicted" are you saying scientific predictions or Biblic ones as well?

Based on some scientists' views, Global Warming is happening. Based on a portion of these scientists' views, Global Warming is happening not primarily on humanity's vast consumption of natural resources and vast excretion of waste materials, but because the sun is simply getting hotter. Apparently several centuries before, Earth experienced a dramatic and unpredicted rise in temperatures - similar to our situation right now - followed directly by an age of extreme heat depression aka 'very cold'. Given that, the rise was probably not caused by human interference in global activities, but rather from the sun's fluctuating temperatures.

That doesn't mean, of course, that we should still be driving around big wasteful SUVs and indirectly overproducing cow fart. Future generations depend on how we act now, so we might as well take the precautions to determine a hopeful next century.

My Physics teacher gets off subject very easily. I've actually never verified any of this information. But my Physics teacher is also very intelligent (seemingly).

EDIT: Now that I think of it, I don't remember how he explained the tear in the atmosphere.

Ooooh global warming huh well it doesn't really matter to me as long as I have air conditioning and sunscreen =D

I FOUND PROOF OF TEH GLOBAL WARMING !!!

Just go to any random place and look at how tight everyones clothes are. :D

To me its a very serious essue. We should start taking more care of our plannet.

Hitoshura
Jun 12 2007, 08:37 PM
I could care less about it. Global Warming will happen once hell frezzes over.

Alphonse
Jun 12 2007, 08:47 PM
True. But before that happens we have to take care of the planet.

Jun 12 2007, 10:33 PM
It's happening. According to our SS teacher who looks up a lot of awesome facts from RELIABLE sites, cities of low elevation like Miami, Beijing, Shanghai, etc, will be underwater in as early as 20-50 years. I mean, if the water level rises just SIX feet, virtually all of Florida will be underwater. This is caused by the glaciers melting. There's a lot of them, and if they all melt, then we're doomed to a planet of like 90% water.

Alphonse
Jun 12 2007, 10:39 PM
Yeah! Exactly! Those big pieces of ice are melting and because of that the sea level is rising and a lot of land will be floded!

I want Global Warming to happen because I have never seen the sea before and if the U.S. is flooded i might be able to go swimming =D

There are alot of spelling errors in this thread. Random thought.

My substitute S.S. teacher said that scientists were predicting that in the next 50 years global warming will greatly impact Earth. I don't know exactly how to take all that.

I agree with domino. Just a couple of inches are drastic to the Earths climate. Some people also say that Global Warming is one of the reasons why we are having worse hurricane seasons.

Lifrasthir
Jun 12 2007, 11:02 PM
That could be possible. But global warming isn't just affecting weather patterns.

Hitoshura
Jun 12 2007, 11:04 PM
Okay, what ever happened to "evaporation" ? All it has to do is suck the water up and we'll be fine.

Pixel
Jun 12 2007, 11:08 PM
Sorry, but that is wrong. You are right in that evaporation will still evaporate the water but wrong because it will just rain right back down because of the endless water cycle. So, evaporation has no effect on it.

Does that sound right?

Lifrasthir
Jun 12 2007, 11:08 PM
Well, like I said, global warming won't affect just the weather patterns. Places where it's wet alot (i.e. rain forests) will get even more rain that already. And deserts and such will get even "hotter" for lack of a better word/words. So it'll really just depend on the current climates now.

Edit: Dang you L-A you posted before me.

Pixel
Jun 12 2007, 11:13 PM
Think of it this way. Because of global warming everything will get hotter so The Deserts will be like Hell, the Poles will become mild climates instead of Harsh Cold, The Tropical rainforest's will pretty much have monsoons alll the time, not just once a year........Etc.....Of course that statement is exagerated a little bit, to do all that it will take a while....

Jun 12 2007, 11:14 PM
That's what I just said in less words. ;)

Exactly! That will do no effect at all! The water will just come back.

Lifrasthir
Jun 13 2007, 12:19 AM
Actually evaporation will have an affect in some places. Depending on the region's climate. I've (and others) have stated this quite a few times.

Has anyone thought that when Global Warming does (if it ever does, which it wont) happen, wouldn't technology be good enough where we could build our houses and buildings above it?

Lifrasthir
Jun 13 2007, 12:47 AM
What do you mean by that Kira?

Hitoshura
Jun 13 2007, 12:49 AM
I'm saying, technology will be advanced enough where when Global Warming does happen, we can build everything above the water. Its sort of like a futuristic city. (Zanarkand-ish)

Lifrasthir
Jun 13 2007, 12:54 AM
Like a floating city?

Hitoshura
Jun 13 2007, 12:56 AM
Sort of.

{like dude man, dis post aint long enuff, but nao it iz *is a white guy*}

Lifrasthir
Jun 13 2007, 01:02 AM
I suppose it could be possible. Though no one would ever be able to know until it actually happens.

(Like dude man you're spelling ....-.-)

My best guess is maybe a city like Zanarkand from FF10.

That would be awesome but I dont think so. I think NASA is working on some kind of spaceship so humas can travel to a different planet. I should know. I live in Houston, Texas! The headquarters is over here!

Devious
Jun 13 2007, 03:21 AM
Yeah, but do you honestly think that we can come up with technology that advanced in 50 years? Even if we start now, we won't have enough time to build floating cities for 7 billion people (1 billion/30 years) in just 50 years. Even if we do, we'll eventually run out of room, or the cities will be destroyed by other natural disasters as a result of global warming. Just watch Ergo Proxy. That could be earth 100 years from now.

Lifrasthir
Jun 13 2007, 03:25 AM
Honestly I believe "making people smarter computer chips" are a higher priority than global warming.

Why do you think that? Global warming is an immediate threat.

I'd like to point ot that while you people are off building floating cities, Europe and Britain in particular will have completly frozen over. If the ice caps melt the fresh water will offset the North Atlantic conveyer current which brings us warmth from the Gulf of Mexico. Basically global warming will make us Brits even colder.

Global warming is going to make everybody colder. :/ Just wait and see, it'll probably set off a new Ice Age (literally). Hurrah. Florida will be underwater along with my friend's house in Florida and a lot of my relatives will have to move out of Shanghai seeing as how it'd be underwater, too. Greenland will eventually be nonexistent and our polar ice caps would suffer as well.

But before that, let's not forget about while the Earth is still becoming unbearably hot! Us people up here in the northern hemisphere will experience the pleasant incidents of deforming rail road tracks, rocky peaks splitting apart, mountainsides being deformed, new ice and mudslides... Goodbye, permafrost, O lovely thing that makes up roughly 24% of land in the Northern Hemishpere.

Oh, yes, and forests have sprung up in Antarctica.

... nice. And I doubt we'd be getting any of those floating cities any time soon regarding the estimated amount of time we have left and our current technology.

Yeah, um, you pretty much just repeated what I just said, but yeah. OMG APOCALYPSE! It's odd how one of the greatest things man will ever see will happen in our lifetime. We're on par with anyone who survived the Great Flood.

I didn't really read what you wrote, but I figured that it'd be similar anyway considering our SS-influenced opinions. And I'm looking forward to the OMG APOCALYPSE xD
