Gold Chocogo won't fly

Hello, I'm in a weird predicament

Playing this game on my PS2 and I am on disc 3 just before I am supposed to go to the simmering islands. I have unlocked the gold chocobo which means I should be able to fly. But for some reason I can't or don't know how I can get my chocobo to fly, what control buttons do I press to get it to fly, I've tried everything. Since it's been so long since I have played this game I don't understand why my gold chocobo isn't flying, do i have to wait til disc 4

Since Naga was the dick I guess I'll be the helpful guy.

Have you tried standing in a forest and pressing O.
But what the hell do I know, I haven't played the game in well over a year.

Thanks, didn't realize I had to be in the forest to start flying
