Does character selection affect storyline?

In some of the other FF games which characters were in your party affected some of the dialogues and story elements.

Without divulging spoilers, I ask: Does it matter who I chose in my party at any point the game from now on? I'm on Chapter 11.

I ask because I like Sazh a lot and I wouldn't want to miss any of his story, but he sucks so much compared to Hope for use in my current party (Hope, Light, Fang).

The only bearing it has, outside of battle, is the small narratives that are spoken by your team members when travelling from A to B.

I too think Sazh loses all usefulness once Hope gains the 'Haste' buff.

Sazh's stats are like, the weakest. T_T

His only advantage is his high health points... but heck that doesn't matter much when he's weak. Snow has got high health points too.
