I know this is kind contravercial but after seeing the mixed opinions in that Yaoi thread I thought a serious discussion on it would be interesting. :P

So, whats your sexuality and views on it?

Im straight, I love boys. xD But Im not against gays in any way. Loads of my friends are gay (Even some from here ) and theyre great fun. They can even be more fun that straight guys. :O They're easy to take to about feelings and shizz I find. Dunno why, maybe because they actually want to comfort me to make me feel better than to get in my pants? XD Not saying all guys are like that but...

The Poll doesn't show who voted what so if you dont wanna comment, no one will know. I was just interested in seeing the ratio kinda thing and having a discussion. :P

Well done there Dante, I take my hat off to you. *Buster Swords*

One thing that does annoy me is the amount of 13 year olds (no offense 13 year olds) that are desperate to label themselves as gay to fit in. It used to be people were harassed for being gay which of course was unfair but now the whole Myspace generation seems to automatically put gay if they've ever had a homosexual thought. Like Aimen said they have to wait for all the hormones to die down to decide and experiment if they want. I can't believe I just agreed with Amie.

Holy crap I just sounded like one of those "back in my day" old people!

Desperate to label themselves as gay? I've never seen that situation, but then again, I don't really hear the word gay used a lot (in a derogatory sense or even in a proper sense) where I live. It should be the opposite, rather, hence the phrase "hiding in the closet".

Kitmitsu
Apr 24 2007, 01:02 AM
Well the straight people still hugely outweigh the people labeling themselves as gay here but there still are people who rush into assuming they're gay. :P

People need to slow down and think for themselves what they are  I'm in a cynical mood tonight :/

Yurian
Apr 24 2007, 01:07 AM
Ah. I understand your point, but I've really never encountered this rushed preconception of a person's sexuality before.

Where do you live? That might have some sort of factor, because Texas is pretty sheltered in terms of urban culture and consequently chances in meeting gay people is rather low. Honestly, I've only encountered, in terms of physically meeting, a gay person once, and he goes to my school.

Lifrasthir
Apr 24 2007, 01:14 AM
If you say "gay" in my school everyone starts acting all stupid. Though they do think it's funny to write that stuff on peoples' backs. :nag: It drives me insane. How immature everyone at my school is. Stupid middle school, when I leave you it'll be the best day of my life....and then I'm off to high school! YAY!....Boo....? I really don't get what the big deal about "being gay" is....someone wanna tell me?

Yurian
Apr 24 2007, 01:28 AM
I think that gay is still viewed as "sinful" and "unwanted". After all, humans have been emphasizing the importance of a good heterosexual marriage for the last thousands of years since we've been existing. As seen by the moral dillemma on what exactly IS natural, the various political debates on whether to allow gay marriage or not, and of course uncertain religious perspectives on the gay issue, being gay is probably a strenuous situation, especially because it's a lifestyle and not a choice (that's another debate: lifestyle or choice?).

Imagine, if being gay was considered natural for your whole lifetime - your parents are gay, and you were born from gay intercourse - even though it's impossible - but you think that you're heterosexual. What kind of pressure would you feel, this feeling inside of you that goes so wrongly against the given culture and world you're living in? I'd probably feel angsty, as if I was a misplaced soul and a mistaken birth.

Or think about it through a racial perspective. I'm Asian, but I'm constantly surrounded by white, Christian, very culturally American people. Especially when I was younger, I actually wished (not out loud of course) that my parents had stayed in Taiwan to raise me, rather than bringing me here. Now that I've realized what a fortune it is to live in America, with so many different kinds of people - Blacks, Latinos, Gays, etc. - I'm thankful for my lifestyle as an Asian American. I get to learn about many unique cultures and experiences because of the wide variety of persons I meet everyday.

Woohoo!

*sniff* Beautiful Yurian.

Honestly you could say I had no choice to moving. I was adopted so I'd be here one way or another. I was raised in a mainly white church (I love it to pieces). So I was taught that gay/homosexual relationships were wrong. But what I don't get is why kids around our age make such a big deal about it. If you're gay honestly I'd like to know (No not in that way you perverts! :nag:), and I'll tell you I think being gay is wrong but I'm not going to downsize you by saying you're wrong. If you believe being gay is okay or whatever then go ahead. Nothing's stopping you and the world should either.

TRUE DAT!
I never went or actually go to church, despite being a christian myself i dont have any standards or beleifs, people where not essentially born to make judgements among others as nothing about who we are is going to change, if somebody prefers a partner of the same sex, then nobody shouldnt have judgement upon it, its that person and their partners choice, but unfortunately we all live in a barstadising society so we do have very judgemental people.

I don;t think being gay is viewed as sinful by the everyday person. Male people generally view gays as a joke within them. We don't hate gays. I have several gay and bi friends. When we say "yeh u would love a cock up ur arse u idiot" to one of our friends, its not intending to be insulting to gays. I personally wouldn't like one up my arse but i don't feel arkward when talking to a gay. If they want to fuck guys. Whats the problem?

To the gay community:

When we say "Your such a gay" to a straight bloke. its not meant to be offending to you, its just a joke. To "bolster" our masculinity.

Im full on straight and homophobic to a point but i'll hang with gay guys if they are cool and not like the sterotypical gay man either like the high pitched voice and stuff like all the hairstylist and stuff. Definatly nothing wrong with lesbians and bi chicks though except one thing about lesbians...they wont let you join in by the bi chicks...ok ok i know i sound like a pig but i'm a 16 year old guy for christos' sakes. And the hole "I'm christain so I bash gays" thing is so stupid every religion has its flaws...Like the whole adam and eve thing and there kids....It kinda stops from there but they don't mention the mass incest right there and the religious royal families who had incest to keep royal blood lines c'mon...Sorry to those who are religious i just have a thing with Christians can't stand em really there too...well snobby about things. I'm straight. Deep down....I'm against being gay because of my religious views on the matter. However....I'm not one of those Christians that will act ignorant towards you for being gay. If that is truely the lifestyle you choose, then theres probably nothing I can do or say to stop you.

If you're gay and you know you're gay without having to be all flamboyant about it, I can easily get along with you. I don't know about all of the crossdressing, surgery patients, and really flamboyant people. Other than my religious views though.....I have no problems with gay people.

The question I like to challenge the homophobes with is.....What if your best friend/brother/sister came out and admitted to being gay? How would you handle that situation?

I would first say that I would be both shocked and utterly disappointed. I'm not even going to lie and say that everything would be the same. I will say that I would never abandon them. We would all try to work through it some way. Christians kill me chastising people that are gay. God wants his word to be spread. We know that homosexuality is considered wrong in Christianity. However.....God says to love your "neighbor" as you love yourself. Sometimes I think we get caught up more in trying to change other people than working on ourselves.

I personally believe that its wrong because of both personal and religious beliefs. There are many biblical scriptures that speak out against homosexuality. As I've said before, I would never discriminate against a gay person.....but....I also wouldn't encourage a person to follow that type of lifestyle based on my own personal and religious beliefs.

Rikku
May 19 2007, 04:05 PM
Meh, in case you're wondering, God (assuming his existance) has a reason to condemn homosexuals. It's because his original purpose for humans (stated somewhere along the line in Genesis) was to populate and subdue the Earth. Obviously, homosexual people can't do this because they, well, can't populate.

I don't entirely agree with that stance though. Many ancient civilizations -- Chinese, Greek, etc -- never had problems with homosexuality. And they're definately not a dying 'race'. o_O God knows how many asian people there are in Toronto.

And I'm also quite curious as to the answer to Sakura's question. Without religion influencing you, what would you think? I know it's kind of hard to answer though, since religion can play a pretty big role in your lifestyles and thoughts.

That being said, I have no problems with gay people. Some of my good friends happen to be gay, so if I were homophobic, it would definitely cause problems. Heck, why should their sexuality matter? It's not as if it's abnormal or wrong. Society only makes it seem abnormal and wrong.

People that say....I don't understand whats wrong with gay sex and vice versa....you gotta look at it from the other side of the spectrum. People don't think the same way as you. I don't have a problem with gays. I would just prefer not to witness two males making out or having sex. If I see it, I'm not gonna act all crazy about it or anything. I would ignore it and keep on walking because its truly not my concern or business. I see a big difference between acceptance and liking. Even though I don't like the idea of two members of the same sex being romatically linked, I have learned to accept it. I will agree that society and the way I was brought up has played a huge influence on my views on homosexuality....as have many others.

I'm straight and I'm a christian. I don't agree with being gay because I find it unnaturall and somewhat wierd. But I don't disslike gay people it's thier decision and I know I won't change thier oppinion, so I'll just politely dissagree and move on. And I don't think that most christians hate gays it's just that the ones that do are the ones that you hear about.

As for the premarital sex thing, I think it's a really bad idea before you're 25 because most people aren't mature enough to understand what thier getting into or weather or not it's the right person to do it with or for the right reasons (one of those not all). I don't think it's a great idea altogether but I think at that age you are at least ready to make the decision.

I am bisexual, and yes actually bisexual :D Its quite annoying actually because as well as having to worry about some intolerant straight people I know, I can also get a lot of intolerance from gay people who think I'm trying to conform, or 'denying my true self' whatever that means.

I don't wanna see 2 randoms banging either. I'm one of the type of people thats cool with you being gay.....but I definitely don't wanna see anything gay-related. It REALLY grosses me out to see two grown man holding hands, kissing, or hearing about them having sex. I personally don't think thats right. I certainly wouldn't want my kids seeing it (when I have them). It can be extremely confusing for a really young one.

I did learn that older kids (adolescents) are usually fine when brought up by two parents of the same sex. I don't agree with all of the discrimination involving gays. Hell....I even think they should allow gay people to form a type of legal partnership outside of actual marriage so they can be together. As long as its got nothing to do with me, I'll just keep walking.....

Damn Dante....lol...we don't agree on anything...Its cool though!

Isnt Gay marriage legal now?

Maybe somewhere....but in most places...actual marriage isn't legal yet. They would have to be married in a church whose views allow gays to be married...since most are against homosexuality, it would be quite an adventure to go through to get married.

.......but there are drive-thrus.....and everything.....quick marriages....I dunno.....I guess alot of people are still against it because marriage a sanctified union between a man and a woman. I Don't agree with actual marriage, but ya....I believe gays should be allowed a form of partnership.

I haven't really researched the legal terms of marriage involving gays......Anyone up to date on any of this?....because I'm sorta where Sakura is right now.

i`m straght but if anyone thinks likeing somone that sam gender as you is wronge, their a sicko :nag::nag::nag:

I don't think there is nothing wrong with finding somebody of the same gender attractive, just because they are the same sex as you doesn't make it wrong to love or have sex with them, its freedom of choice on your own sexuality so nobody has the right to determine which is right and which is wrong in sexuality.

My opinion is that anybody who finds being gay or bisexual is sick or morally wrong needs to look around, there are alot of gay and bisexual people within this world.

Even despite what the bible says about sexuality between the same sex is wrong (i think it says that...doesn't it. Seing as churches don't support gay rights really do they?) everybody has their own choice whether or not they follow the teachings of god.

Even though i am straight (To Dante ima lesbian ^_^) i support gay rights as much as anybody else who does.

Straight, although i subscribe to the theory that everyone is bisexual to some percentage. I just haven't met a guy who has done anything for me.

My first two girlfriends were blonde, my third brunette and my current partner is also brunette. Hair colour has never been something that seems to affect whether i find someone attractive. personality counts for a lot more than looks do for me.

Ive never been keen on girls (or guys for that matter) who wear too much make up. People look much more beautiful naturally i think.

I cannot believe I never posted in here. Anyway Bi as a few of you know. If I like you, your gender isn't going to get in the way. Except if you are somewhat in-between genders or are a cross dresser. I have nothing against it personally, let that be known, but if I want a guy I want a GUY, and vice-versa. Lots of people call me gay simply because they haven't seen me date a girl since I "came out". But in my opinion I have had many girlfriends and they have all been legitimate, I have hid a part of me for so long that in the past few years I have only exclusively dated men not because I am "gay now" or something but I would say that I am just getting rid of all my pent up repressed gayness. I hope that made sense. Basically I guess I am just trying to re-balance myself out. Not that I have to that's just what I am trying to do at the moment. I have turned a few girls down since but that was also due to the fact that they simply didn't seems right for me anyway.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I really don't feel much attraction to either gender? I mean, after I talk to people and get to know what they're like, thats when feelings seem to form. I've had things like that for both genders. I seem to only start liking those who show that they have good hearts? ^^
Anyways I'm a Christian and I was raised in a Baptist church. I think homosexuality is wrong, BUT I think that you can still go to heaven even if being involved in it. I mean, everyone seems to have atleast ONE sin they are seduced to every time. Jesus came to die for our sins... so homosexuals (and bisexuals for that matter) are saved if they believe in Him. If you believe they can't go to heaven, then really, you are saying no one can. If you think about it, there are MANY worse things that a person can be involved in. God looks for those who try to do what is right for Him and where they mess up, He forgives. Infact, I think God does let some of His children follow that path, because who else can reach out to those who are completely lost in it? Think of it, ALOT of Christians are entirely homophobic... they won't reach out to them. And also, Christians are not suppost to judge and condemn others, that is God's position and His alone!

^^; thanks for reading my long post.

Jesus, and I thought I had a temper! Well, I guess it depends on what he did, then maybe I could justify trying to run the fool over with my car. I've done some pretty violent things myself anyway.

That's funny though, lots of gay guys? I've never really heard of that before.

He deserved it :aldo: I can't remember what he did but I remember thinking "Served him right". My Mum's convinced she's made me a lesbia because of how much she goes on about how all men are crap all the time. She wants me to be a gold-digger

Yeah it's true, I never actually realised it was strange until recently, though. Both my parents are athiest and my Dad especially is very 'everyone is equal we should be nice to everyone'. The whole outcasting someone because of your Religion has never made sense to me, it kind of makes me laugh sometimes.

In the words of my Nannan, "It's an abomination. It says so in the Bible."
How can that not make you laugh?

I'm straight, always have been and probably always will, but I have some very close friends who are gay, and a colleague of mine who is a lesbian - and whom gropes me at work >_> I have nothing against em, I love gays in fact x) I can just be more open with them as I know they won't wanna screw me later =p Plus I feel more connected with men than women - even if the men in question are gay. Fun thing is though... I have 2 swedish friends, both straight when I met them. Now they're both gay ._. I turn men gay ;_;

I did date a bi-guy once, that was fun. Though he turned out to be an ass in the end who was cheating on my friend and I >_>

Kaiwa, do what I do when people try to put you down, make fun of it ;) Like blow them kisses or something to make them feel really uncomfortable and even more annoyed! Brilliant fun =p And geeks are fun! Much funnier and more entertaining than jocks or w/e... never really found jocks attractive either =\ Gimme a good ol' geek anyday!

LoL ^^ Well anyway, It's not that i really care or anything it's only pretty annoying cause i kinda have a reputation here as the computer freak and they won't even take the time to really get to know me... Most of my friends are also from the internet (and other countries) which they also find stupid over here.. "Get social"!

Luckily my next school will be diffrent: "International Game Architecture and Design" :) All from the same kind xD, 1 more year _O_

Haha I also have a lot of friends in different countries XD Some of my best friends are Dutch or Swedish in fact =p

I know i've just stated that I was straight, but I do wonder what it would be like to touch another woman, to taste her etc ._. I wouldn't say it was a longing to do it, a craving, nah, just a curious thought XD I guess it stems from the age-old question: If you could give yourself oral, would you?
