It's not fake, however, I think it is just a special render of FFVII Cloud for a Famitsu issue featuring FFVII. I don't think it's an announcement of a remake. Knowing Square-Enix they would hold a event for such an announcement.

The idea of remaking that game is just repulsive to me. VI and VII are fine the way they are. I'll certainly buy it if they remake it, of course, but I would buy it begrudgingly.

There was no announcement otherwise it would be all over the Internet by now. Besides, it's more likely Jump would have coverage than Famitsu.

I'd like an FFVII remake on an HD console (or PC), if only for the architecture in Midgar.

There is zero chance of a FF VII remake being in development right now. They have only just finished XIII and have Versus XIII and XIV in development. Would they really have the time or the money to do such another big project at the same time? If it's not currently in development they would not announce it. I think in time it will happen but this is not it. I could be wrong but that's just what i think.

Yes they could. SE is one of the biggest game companies, they can handle more than two games at time, they have the time, the money, and the people. And who said FFVII is a "big" project? It could likely follow the path of it's predecessors and have a DS or Psp remake.

Kitase's team would probably be the team behind it if it happened, and they just finished XIII. They'll probably assist with Versus, but no doubt they will also start their next project. Given Wada's recent statement about wanting that team to try something other than FF games, I do think the chances are slim that they are planning the remake.

That would pretty much make it go from day one to no interest for me. I'd consider a portable remake of FFVI, but would still much prefer it be on a console. Even the Wii would be better as long as they don't "dumb it down" like they did with Crystal Bearers.

It kind of leads me to wonder how they would handle the platform decision. The game would probably make more money on a portable in Japan with it's higher sales and lower development cost, but it will do much worse in the west than a console game.

I think that's total profit, so it wouldn't. I didn't check the sales of any other games, but FFXII numbers imply that it made more in the west than in Japan - 5.2 million units sold total, under 2 million of which from Japan. I'd imagine most of the rest are from North America and Europe, and that the results would be fairly similar with other FF games.

Regardless, an FFVII remake isn't something Square Enix would want to alienate either audience with. A PS3/360 release would probably be more sufficient since it would sell like hotcakes in Japan and over here. A portable (or Wii) release would probably do a bit better in Japan, but the lost sales in the west probably wouldn't be worth it. I'm totally guessing with those estimations though and don't have any evidence to back them up.

I dunno, I kind of changed my mind on the whole...possibility of there being a remake of FF7, after my friend kept insisting the tech demo was what it was and nothing more, I just can't understand why they chose to commercialize the power of graphics with Final Fantasy VII of all games, that's not right. Its like a huge tease on high demand that if it won't happen will leave fantasy fans scarred, wounded and questioning.
But it did make sense; why FFVII and why now?
We'll see, I just don't think it'll happen at the moment.

Nomura pretty much said that there wont be any signs of one for the time being.
Which essentially translates to "don't expect to even hear of a VII remake anytime soon until after versus, agito, haeresis, XIV, or even KH III are out".

C'mon there's a good reason why they choose VII to display the tech demo, it was very much so a tease. SE is mostly likely going to remake VII, but not before V & VI of course. All the other classics thus far have been remade to a fitting degree, it's only a matter of time till they hit VII really.

I wouldn't mind a VII remake...eventually, but as of now I only care to see more of Versus, Agito, and hopefully Haeresis.

I'd also like to see and FFX-3...but not a continuation of 2, really if only to have Lulu's/Wakka's baby as the main character(matured ofcourse). Their child, and a completely different and interesting party with at least ONE demi-human in it, that's what I'd do.
No more bringing back Tidus and Yuna, I'd focus the spotlight on someone else just to make things neater; besides their story pretty much tied all loose ends.
I'd make it so that the world would change, years later and be populated by some new races. Blitzball would still be played, along with other sports and it'd be a mini-game like in X only refined and smoother.

That or I'd make a spinoff which I'm currently writing called "FFX: The Farplane War"; a story that features Chappu and Auron as the main characters, on the Farplane after death.

Still, I doubt FFX-3 will happen, infact I'm almost certain it won't. Its alright, dreaming is good enough...:D
