i was thinking Y not mix all of them
Have crystals that contain roles such as White Mage, Black Mage, Thief, Blue Mage, Bushido, Swordsman, Alchemist, etc (like dressphere in X-2) to where characters can have a certain number of those and use and level up its magic (materia in VII). That way u can pick who does what while everyone can still attack. You give them the materia crystals and they can use them and level them up and later exchange them between members.

Summons come back (u fight to get them like in VIII and XIII to get them). When you fight them they crystalize. You can set those crystals like Materia crystals and you can also set those with anyone with no limit. Excessive use is cotrolled by TP cost so that you need a certain amount to summon each one.

Battles are like XIII where u can see them but fight in another dimensioin. The style looks like XIII except there is no need for intense Optima Change because the crystal materia things take care of that.(the R2 button) You still have the Medic and stuff but that is only if it pertains to that person/ Its all advance ATB like XIII but if you want to just press the L1 or R1 button to switch between people.;)

Overdrives/Limidts return so that there is a bar underneath your ATB that fills up per character and then a command is available for a Limit.:P

You upgrade weapons like in X and XIII and there is a Crystarium/ Sphere Grid for stuff like HP+, MP+, ATK + ETC no magic stuff because they go up with the materia crystals.

Its long but it was fun making. Make your own and also please PLEASE comment on this one or anyother.

Lets see if we can agree and make the perfect Battle System/:P

i think that the best battle system so far belongs to final fantasy X and XIII.
in X, I love the fact that each character is different from the other, Yuna's a summoner, Lulu's a mage, Wakka has that blitzball, etc...
I also like the sphere grid system, which is my favorite way to level up so far.
And I give my credits to XIII for the actual in-battle system, the way everything moves around you, and how fluid the battle is.

well, that's just my opinion
