fffff does anyone have a strategy for pope v2? I've fought him twice now, once with lightning/snow/hope and once with lightning/hope/fang, and both times I've been going fine until he cast doom on Lightning |:
On a better note, the smaller creatures in the village are great for grinding on, and there's a hidden (?) cutscene at the top of one of the houses. Nothing major, just Vanille recognizing some sort of robot thing.

The title of this chapter is "Gran Pulse - Terra Incognita"
Just started, haven't made it to the boss yet.

After you find Hope, you do his summons battle... Alexander is pretty easy to defeat... I just cast protect on everyone, then left everyone on attacker/blaster roles unless they were getting low on health, then I'd switch to defender and healer roles for a moment before switching back... not difficult, no really big strategy, just pound on him for awhile.
After you defeat Alexander, you enter into "Gran Pulse - The Archylte Steppe"

SIDEQUEST
The robot is Vanille's old pet Bokty, and examining it actually starts an easy sidequest. If you run around the village, collect Bokty's 5 parts from the bull's-eye icons on the map and then go back, Sazh will fix him. Talk to him afterwards and you'll get 10 sneak smokes and some great weapon upgrade materials.
As for pope v2, just grinding some CP for an hour or two should make him a lot easier. He only casts doom if you're taking too long to fight him, so just making your characters stronger could speed up the fight enough to avoid it completely.

A few more notes on this chapter... Gran Pulse is huge... and finally monsters regenerate on their own... so no more tricks in order to grind out some CP... just lots and lots of repetition. The monsters in this world are STRONG!!! Do NOT fight the King Behemoths right away, they will kill you!!! Unfortunately, I had a ton of CP points from grinding an earlier level, but once my Crystallium unlocked all six roles for all players, and my levels were all maxed at 3, I wasted all my points on stupid expensive crap that I'll never use, very expensive level 0/1 stuff for non-standard roles... So now I'm having to spend a ton of time grinding CP in this place... my characters almost have 3000 HP and I still haven't been able to kill a King Behemoth yet, but I come pretty close now.
I haven't made it to the "village" yet, cause I'm grinding away... but there appears to be a lot of "missions" or side quests in this place... the Archylte Steppe has a thin blue statue at the beginning, and it asks you if you'd like to accept a mission, didn't really pay attention, maybe something about killing a Gran Pudding down by the pond... I said yes I'd do the mission, then never bothered with it yet... been too busy grinding... anyway, I've been grinding on the little puffer religious birds called "Randa" or "Landa"... they're easy to beat in about 40 seconds and give you nearly 2000 CP per battle. But be careful, they can summon huge monsters to kick your a$$. But I've battled them dozens of times, and its only happened once. Most of the time, if you give them a chance to summon, they summon their own kind, which is just slightly annoying, not harmful. They're weak, and their extremely easy to sneak up on and get pre-emptive attacks which lets you break-level them early and finish them off quickly. Anyway, near the landar puffer penguin guys, I found another one of those blue mission sticks like at the beginning of this land, but this one was on the ground and had no power...
One other thing... there are lots of "jump points" around this map... just like normal, where you step on them and jump up to other places... but the jump points are yellow instead of blue... and they don't work when you step on them. Since this map is so huge, my guess is that you eventually get a chocobo for it, and those yellow jump points only work for the chocobo. Too bad, cause there's lots of items I can't reach yet.

Oh, one other thing, in regards to crystallium upgrades... once you unlock level 4 there are ATB level ups on that level, but only in the character's "main" role... so on the level 4 tier for Snow, there is an ATB power up that costs like 8000 CP. This is a rare and very useful upgrade, and its ONLY available on his "Defender" role. Check each character for where this ATB power up is, and I highly recommend upgrading their level 4 CP along that role until the ATB is obtained. This gives you an extra ATB bar (should be your 5th for most characters) to use in battle.
I believe the ATB power up exists for the characters in these roles (presumably their preferred roles).
SNOW = DEFENDER
LIGHTNING = ATTACKER
FANG = ATTACKER
SAZZU = ENHANCHER
HOPE = ENHANCER
VANILLA = HEALER
Someone please double check that, its just from memory. Vanilla's is the only one that comes very early and is therefore in total, the cheapest to get... but she's the only character in which its only her 4th ATB bar, so that must be why hers comes early. Sucks, she has no summons so far, and less ATB, and the least HP... Amongst other feelings I have for her, I feel sorry for that hot animated chick.
Oh, a question, now that I have five ATB bars, it takes a long time to fill without Haste being cast... and he's just standing around like a moron when sometimes the last monster only has a few HP left... is there a way to force action without waiting until the ATB bar is entirely full? That'd be very useful to know.

Turns out there are A LOT of missions to Gran Pulse if you want to complete them all... they usually give you a nice item to upgrade weapons with. Basically, you find these thin near-circle angel statues around the map, they're all over, but they're deactivated until you beat the prior missions. After you accept a mission (don't worry if you can't read Japanese) because they targets of the missions show up as red stars in the Area Map. This is the first time the Area Map has ever been useful in the game. Just open up the menu and there is a whole world map in there, that's what I'm talking about, not the tiny map in the upper right corner. Anyway, after you accept a mission, the monster you need to defeat to complete the mission shows up as a red star in the area map. Defeat that monster (they're pretty easy), and then you get an item and complete the mission and activate a new angel statue where you can accept your next mission (usually found next to the dead boss). My guess is there are 13 missions, I've seen at least 10 of these deactivated statues while running around grinding for CP.
Mission 1 - Defeat the Gran Pudding.
Mission 2 - Defeat the grey wolf thingy, "Uridishimu"? He's a grey version of the Gorugonopusu (Gorgon'o'puss?)
Mission 3 - Defeat the king of the mountain "Ugarurumu"? (U-Gollom?)
I'll add more missions as I complete them.

You get your ATB upgraded from 3 to 4 when you get your summon. I guess they let you get Vanille's ATB upgrade on her Crystarium more quickly since they know you don't have her summon yet.
Fighting those little bird guys is awesome, Sazh buffs me with elemental damage to hit their weakness, and with 5 ATB bars, Lightning can do Ruinga and her AOE physical attack one after another, which usually nearly kills every single one of those guys.
There is at least 51 missions (having seen some combat footage of a guy doing number 51). I think I recall hearing there is 53 in total.

CP farming at its best, its easy to collect a few xx.xxx CP there in no time (as mobs give 1,5k-3,7k there and have instant respawn).
There are 64 missions according to the jp wiki.

Mission 3... can somebody post where this is at? i ran all over the map and couldn't find it.
I've been grinding since I got to pulse as well, haven't moved forward. probably spent at least 3 or 4 hours so far, i've completed 1 level 4 crystal map for everyone, working on the 2nd.
There's 2 spots close by each other where they both spawn goblins. the goblins have really high defense, but their attacks aren't so horribly strong, and they give 2.7k each fight.
since i started fighting them i use enh enh hlr to start the fight and haste/buff everyone, then i switch to bla bla jam to finish it fast. when i started grinding, it was about a 1.5 min fight. now it's about 45 seconds after all the crystal mapping i've done
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e198/shortysdohdoh/Goblins.jpg
^ the birds give 1,5-3,7k for like 15-30sek fights :D
As for your mission, I got that one too, didnt pay attention while getting it, but it should be at Yashaya mountain (or however it was called).

Yeah, if you scan around the map, you should be able to find a small red star indicating where the mob is you need to kill. Sometimes it'll be located on another map, but the map you're on will at least show you which exit to take.

Dec 25 2009, 12:31 AM
how did you take that screenshot des? i was trying to find out how to do that but i can't connect my computer to my tv
Another great grinding spot is right before the entrance to Mahabra caves.
There's a behemoth and another monster (megalo something) fighting each other, and you'll ALWAYS get a preemptive strike when you run into them. If your characters are strong enough you can kill them in 15-20 seconds for an easy ~6.5k CP.
Then just run back up the hill a bit past the save point, and they will have respawned.
A great way to get CP after you've beaten the game is to keep doing this until you have full TP, then kill an Adamantaimi with the summon knockdown/Vanille Death trick for 40,000(!!) CP. Then just rinse and repeat.
Adamantaimai also drop プラチナインゴット which sell for 150,000 gil, and トラペゾへドロン(that cost 2,000,000 gil to buy) which are used to upgrade tier 2 weapons to tier 3.

lol ptd, you just figure that out? you should have told me sooner! i gotta update the weapon page now lol
can you screenshot the caves part? i haven't been ova there yet
Sorry, I'm not sure how to take screen captures either. :(
It's by the save point in the very upper left of the photo you took of the map. You can't miss the two fighting monsters; they're blocking the path right before you get to the cave's entrance.

did you buy the Good Choice item? i was thinking about buying that since i have some cash after selling off my premium chips
I'll PM it to you.
I have a Good-Choice, but I'm pretty sure I got it from a chest in Chapter 12, or maybe at the very end of Chapter 11. The only time I've used it is when I'm hunting Adamantaimai with Vanille, since you don't need any other accessories and トラペゾへドロン is a really rare drop.

I couldn't find it either... it's tricky, cause it's off a little offshoot path and the map is all fogged to places you haven't been... its easy to think you'd already been there. Here's how to find the mob for Mission 3.
1) Go to your Area Map.
2) Press the SQUARE button, this brings up a Mission List.
3) Go to mission 3, this changes the map to where mission 3 started, I'm using it as a reference.
4) Move the map straight south till you see the save point.
5) From that save point, move the map so you can see more west area (left) until you see another save point.
6) Continue going west from that save point, off the edge of the walkable map. Very soon you will see the red star... walk towards that loaction.
NOTE: The mission list is actually useful if you've been busy griding or didn't pay attention to the mission story (and care about it) and want to go back and read it, it's there in full in the mission list. But I think the most useful thing about it, is being able to use it as a reference point on the map for us who can't take screenshots.

Just spam Vanille's Death ability (5 CP for jammer) and hope it works. Tried it out for a while and it took like 4 attempts before I managed to kill one before it stomped me.

I got a Good Choice from one of the missions in the 10-20 range, iirc. Also if you get it to level 2 it becomes a Best Choice which increases the rare item drop rate so I keep both equipped (particularly useful for getting that trapezohedron for ultimate weapon upgrades as ptd mentioned).

this works great! i use atk bla jam the whole fight. only thing to watch is making sure the KB is in the air until he dies because if he transforms it can get out of hand. otherwise everything is smooth and it finishes fast with the 6k CP

These missions are a pain... the story really slowed down when I got to Gran Pulse, and I thought the game was almost over... now it looks like I could spend days here. But the missions seem worth it... not only do I want to unlock them all, but they give you good items. For instance, Mission 3 gave me a 400+HP ring. But it was a lot of backtracking and running around to get to the mission boss.
You guys notice that it permanently ranks your missions when you go into the Mission List you can see your individual mission ranking, and you can retry missions if you go back to their start point... anyone try getting a perfect rating on all missions? I bet it unlocks some worthless PS3 XMB trophy if you do that.

Lightning theme, in fact.

I don't know how true this is, but I'm guessing Death's effectiveness is increased by getting Vanille's JAM to level 5 and casting Weak and Deshell on the monster first. I usually have no trouble getting Death to stick before it stands back up, if not then always on the second try.

I just found a good place to get CP in the big plains area (forgot the name...). Once you have unlocked chocobo riding, there is a chocobo-only path near the circle of six or so dark monuments. In the big area on that path, you'll see a group of round critters with leaves on their heads. Approach them, a cutscene will play, and an Ochu appears. The ochu and his five baby-ochu are medium difficulty (I died 1 out of 5 times) and will give you 13300 CP per battle.
I start the battle with attack/blaster/enhancer to let the Enhancer make my weapons fiery and cast haste on my party, then switch to attack/blaster/healer for the rest of the battle. Kill the Ochu first, since it can do a lot of damage, then focus on the little guys. Also, it's easy to get a preemptive attack by jumping off the ledge next to the ochu and walking up behind it where the treasure chest is.

Yeah, those two are awesome for grinding out some CP... I had been avoiding them because King Behemoths and my party just don't mix... everytime I get a King Behemoth down to low health he stands upright and then fully restores his health, then next time you get him low he tends to do a double-combo verticle strike attack against my party leader that ends the match. But here, you always get pre-emptive attacks on him, so you can hopefully killl him before he has a chance to stand upright. It worked most of the time for me... a few times he does still get lucky and stands up... then your pretty much screwed if that happens unless you've been CP grinding for awhile and have your HP up. A huge key if he does stand up, is to just Assault Rush him anytime he's facing the other monster... but if he turns to face you, you MUST immediately switch to include a Defender role and defend quickly... if your defending when he throws the strike you won't die, but that's the only way I know how not to die when he launches his big HP costing attack. I grinded it out here awhile, so now I'm good... I'm going to move on until I can get Chocobos and then try that better spot for grinding that only Chocobos can get to.

I didn't read through all the posts, but if no one mentioned it I have a spot where the fight takes you about 30 seconds and you get 6,600 CP everytime. To add to it's awesomeness the monsters are too busy fighting each other to deal damage to you until you kill one.
If I'm reading the map right it's to the far east, before you would go to a new area. There's a save point just before the mob fight. It's a big black dog thing that can stand up if you beat it up (guessing these are the Behemoths) and he's fighting one of those big white wolf guys.
Everytime you walk up to them their health is already at half, they won't look at you, AND you always get a pre emptive strike on them. The trick here is to take out the Behemoth first before he can fully heal.
My party members are Fang, Sazh, and Lightning. Fang is ATK, and the other two are BLA. The fight starts, and you want to be in control of Fang. Sazh and Lightning will BLA the Behemoth right away, you want to build up your ATB attacks(I have 5 with Fang), and the second the two BLA are done blasting you execute your attack to keep it air juggled until the two of them can attack with magic again. Just experiment a little bit and you'll find a way to tackle the Behemoth like me in a matter of seconds. As for the big white wolf thing it's stupid easy. Just Zerg him, and if he gets anyone to 800HP or below quickly swap to healing.
I get 5 stars everytime and a total of 6,600 CP. I assume I'm getting some good items for leveling weapons too since these guys would be tough on their own to fight.
Once you beat them run off a pretty good distance and they respawn, and you can keep grinding them for fast leveling.
Hope that helps. :)
Edit: Seems the map has no North, South, East, West and it will turn itself at different points as you run through it. The spot you want is towards the big black sphere. If you zoom your map out far enough you will see a big black sphere somewhere. Run towards that.

For you guys who are still grinding on Gran Pulse, proceed to village and unlock your lvl 9 Crystallium 1st. You won't be forced to proceed with the story any further. You can still turn back for more grinding. The reason to unlock lvl 9 1st is to get your long awaited "finishing move, overlimit, limit break" or whatever you wanna call that =)

Woah woah woah. There's limit breaks in FF13?! I'm going to go right now to do what you just said. If this is true I'll be pleased, but also annoyed that they are kept from you till Ch11 of the game. :/
Edit: I hope I'm going the right way. I've been going through some cave tunnel place now, and got Vanille her summon, but no village yet.

To make a ★ level weapon or accessory evolve, you have to use a specific evolution item. Once you get it to ★ level, all of the materials on the list should be grayed out when you try to upgrade it. If you have the correct evolution item, it should be the only item name that's white.
I accidently skipped missions 6 and 7 too. You have to go pretty far into Mount Yaschas to find them, all the way to the ruined city area. After you finish them more missions should open up.

That's not good... the only place I can find that item is in the shop above LENORA Garage in the list when you go to buy items at save game stations... and it costs 60,000 gil...
I'm going to have to wait for the currency exchange rate gods to align the numbers more in my favor before I can purchase such a worthless upgrade... I mean, it just lets me potentially get rarer items after battle right? is that really worth 60,000 gil? My biggest problem in the entire game, has been my poverty... never nearly close to enough gil.

Don't be too happy yet. Apparantly the skill for Lightning is under Blaster tree. And the damage is meh~ for a cost of 5 ATBs. My attacker mode can do 24k x 5 during 999% break status but the finishing skill only do about 4.5k x roughly 20 hits or less under the same condition. However, it is good to use it once or twice right after a break occur because the number of hits make charging up break damage % a breeze.
(later in the morning I will count the exact number of hits, and also try out the other characters' new skill, off to bed)

What village (the oerba village? Because you first have to fight the fal'Cie to get there).
It's been hours since he mentioned this village. I'm SO far out from the Gran Pulse now that it'd take me an hour just to hoof it back if not more. :( That's why I get for getting over zealous. Now I can't do the side missions without taking that hour to run all the way back from this giant tower I'm in, or else I could keep going forward but it seems I'm skipping a lot of side content if I do.
Help. :(

Everyone's special move has a different time that's optimal for using it.
The trick with Lightning's is that if you start the move right when the enemy's break gauge is about to drop to zero and reset, the enemy will stay broken until Lightning finishes the attack. That means your other two characters get extra time to keep doing massive damage.

Don't worry about it. When you get to the last dungeon you get the power to warp back to Gran Pulse, and there isn't really any reason to try doing all the missions until you've completely unlocked Crystarium from the final boss.

Yeah I just got the teleport statue. Glad this is here otherwise it'd be a major trek back. :P
Is the max level for the crystarium 9 or 10? I'm at 8 now still at the village. Also...this village seems oddly familiar. Isn't this the place you see in a FFVersus13 Trailer where Noctis and all those buddies of his look over the giant cliff side? I have a really big feeling that Versus is going to be set in the events before 13 even if Square says it's not a prequel or sequel....it really seems it might be. :O

I have a really big feeling that Versus is going to be set in the events before 13 even if Square says it's not a prequel or sequel....it really seems it might be. :O
It is 10 and also I had just done mission 3 monster... OMG! THAT WAS A TREK! Getting to him T.T (The walk back to get another mission will be deadly)

What village (the oerba village? Because you first have to fight the fal'Cie to get there).
ya Oerba village, and you fight fal'Cie AFTER you reached there. . Just turn back right after you defeated it, any steps further will trigger the next chapter.

Great thinking! thanks for the info =]

Just unlocked Vanilla's summons... once again its susseptible to jams... so just left Vanilla on Jammer and Fang on Attacker and used the TP ability Full Cure to quickly restore HP... occasionally you need to switch to a healer role, but for the most part just jam him.
Wow, it sounds like this Gran Pulse chapter is huge... I thought I'd have beat the game by now. And from what you guys are saying, there's a ton of time playing even after the vanilla summons battle. My Role Level in the Crystalliium is still only maxed out at LV 4.

This game is sure tough, like oh jeez. I didn't grind in Gran Pulse or any other area, I just wanted to reach the end boss without grinding anything, and get an advantage (1+ CP level.) After a lot of game overs to normal monsters, I finally got to the blue light room!
Once when I get the 1+ CP level, let's the grinding fest begin!

for Vanille's summon, for me, when the summon was in attack mode, I had Vanille on jammer and Fang on defense, because it seems that Fang just stops casting jammer spells after a couple times, duno why.
when the summon is just standing there doing nothing I had Vanille as blaster and Fang as attacker.
If I didn't rmb it wrong, you should get two rounds of full ATB hits before the the summon turns from "doing nothing" to "attack mode".

About the mission you get on the top level of the tower, the mission target is on the 1st floor, however it's a little bit trickier coz you need to first activate the statue on the top floor, which turns on a 2nd elevator.
This elevator specifically only leads to the 7th floor. On the 7th floor, you need to activate another statue which aligns the floors so the main elevator would let you go all 6 floors plus the top floor. Then you need to get back to the top level and get on the main elevator to the 1st level. Once you get there, there will be a cutscene which takes you right into battle with the mission target.

Upgrading your non-native roles shouldn't make any difference in the CP required for the others. But I'd save it anyway, since as soon as you can, you'll want to max out your main roles and get those 5 bar abilities (especially death, for farming)

Wait and max out the character's main three roles.
The other roles' crystals are really expensive, and you'd be wasting CP if you spent it on them instead of the main roles, which will give huge stat bonuses for a lower cost.

Just entered the large area (after Hope's summon battle). I was wondering what the best place/method to both gain CP and earn gil (to lvl weapons) at this point? I've been waiting to grind and farm gil until now, so I have very little gil and everyone's roles are 2 and 3. At this point would I be too weak for most of the methods posted so far, such as the 6k CP fights, etc? Would missions be the best bet for grinding? Would like to get everyone's main roles close to or at lvl 4 and max out a few tier 2's before moving on, but only if it's reasonably possible to do so now. What do you think is the minimum (roughly) lvl/weapon wise it would take to defeat the final few chapters along with the final boss? Sorry for so many questions. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

There is a king behemoth near where you first enter the plains that is really easy to sneak up on once you get the hang of it. I was easily able to break it and kill it before it stood up. That was the first monster I used for grinding there. It gives 4000 CP per battle.

One of the easier way to farm CP is inside the tower, the Fifth Floor, there is a group of robots, I think 5, that's really easy to destroy with AoE attacks. This easily nets 8000 CP and only takes about 20-30sec. It's easy to make them respawn. There is a centaur robot in the adjacent room that you can also easily pre-empt and kill. Head back to the room with the robot mob and take the stairs up. You can kill the Cie-Corpse one floor above or just head down again to kill the mob. Easy CP.

im using this method to farm CP n Gil which i think is the best way..
1) defeat the boss on taejin tower
2) open up the elevator all the way frm 1st - 7th floor
3) go to 4th floor n take the other elevator to 5th floor
4) u will see no.24 mission statue right in front the elevator
5) the mission monster spawn in the same room, defeat it nets u 6k CP and a item tt sells for 6k Gil... it oni takes 30 secs
6) repeat step 4 n 5 :)
i have earned 360k+/- cp n gil using tis method in an hr

I was actually looking for the teleport thing, but I think I misunderstood someone's previous post. Can someone confirm when can I get the teleport thing?
btw Fal'cie wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I just kept blaster+attacker+healer on most of the time and sometimes switched to healer+healer+defender. You can only have one active mission at a time. I learned this the hard way, after walking for 20 minutes or so just to notice that the red star wasn't where I was headed anymore. I had activated another mission on the way to where the first one was, which got rid of the target for the first mission. The sad thing is this happened about five times before I realized what was happening *is slow*.
So, maybe you activated another mission? The big blue flan thing for mission 1 should be on the hill near the lake that's close to the start point for the mission.

I just arrived at the Grand Pulse and I think my clock shows around 28h or so. However I sometimes paused the game and let it run, not sure if that counted on my play time. I also didn't rush through so far, plus spent 2-3 hours leveling up in an earlier chapter.
Grand Pulse seems huge, I guess I can spend some time here before I move on with the story (to make life easier).

1) Good choice / Best choice is an accessory that increase item / rare drop rates. 3) Do the red monument mission to unlock a seal zone, follow by doing another mission to save the Chocobo, once completed Chocobo riding will be unlock. (Sorry that I can't remember exactly which mission was it)

You will find 1 or 2 through the treasure chests, but don't sweat about it because you can buy it. Just remember to upgrade to them best choice to maximize it's use. Death ability cost ALL ATB. It is not about the damage, it causes instant death on a low probability. That is how you kill Adamantoise.

It is not about the damage, it causes instant death on a low probability. That is how you kill Adamantoise.
Question. Do you bother to break Adamantoise' legs before trying the level 5 jammer move on one of its feet? Do you just spam and have the other two heal while you aim for feet or his head? Do I need to break his head before i try to do level 5 jam ?
Edit: Lol wow screw this. I think I spammed her level 5 jam ability well over 100 times now in 3 different LONG LONG drawn out fights and it just won't work. Low probability you say? More like "no probability". :/
Edit again: Okay so I found a really effective method that is guaranteed to kill the King Adamantoise, but I need to work at it a little bit more. I just beat one by the way without using Jammer level 5 death ability.
These things comes with over 5 million HP. So I found this method to work:
Start the fight out as Fang on Jammer. Quickly hit auto battle and let her fling w/e jams she can. After its first stomp, quickly use your 3 TP ability to summon Bahamut. Now it will automatically have its feet crumble and be on its head. From here fully get as close as you can to draining the SP meter in the lower right, and fling a few more jam abilities on it for good measure. I like to have defense down and magic down for sure, then optima change Fang to attacker. Once the meter is 1,000 or less hit square to do drive mode. From here it's just experimentation hitting directions with X to rack up tons of damage. At the very end of it all Bahamut will do Mega or Giga Flare or Terra Flare(I don't read Japanese). After I did all this the Adamantoise was very low on health AND it went back to my party for the rest of its 999.99% meter to beat it down so more. I was left with 500,000 HP left to burn through on my own which probably took 20+ mins to survive killing both its feet again, and then going nuts on his head.
Dropped that 150,000 worth item. :D
quickly use your 3 TP ability to summon Bahamut. Now it will automatically have its feet crumble
That's the "summon knockdown trick" I mentioned earlier. If you do that before you start spamming Death with Vanille, you won't have to worry about it fighting back for a while. If it stands up before you get Death to work, it's easier to restart the fight.
That's weird you couldn't get it work though. Is Vanille's Jammer at level5? Start with Sazh and Hope as your party members so one of them can cast Haste and Faith on her before you summon to knock the monster down.
Congrats on the win though!

Yeah I tried exactly what you just said with Vanille. She had more buffs than I could count, and during her summon time I just unloaded a gajillion Deaths and they don't work ever. Are we talking about the same Adamantoise? I'm talking about the big husk ones with over 5million HP.
Either way I just beat my second one, but with my Bahamut method. This time the fight took about 1 minute. I got the whole party super buffed fast without even 1 heal dropped in. Called in Bahamut, tons of work, then when it came back to my party they obliterated at least 2 million by themselves. The Adamantoise couldn't get back up, because I kept it stun lock on its head. Easy peesy. ;)
Edit: Quick side question. Is killing one of these big lugs supposed to give you a trophy? If so I haven't gotten one for either of my victories over them.

I personally maxed out all my characters main 3 roles. Once their main 3 roles were filled out I went to advance the story. There's way too much content to tackle without having max crystarium, limit breaks, and access to 4 accessories being equipable. To do that you need to complete the game.
Hope that helps. You can probably tackle the first 19 missions, then you could move on too. However you want to play it it's totally up to you.

I know you're supposed to knock it down using the summon and then jam it and do damage but what do you do after the summon. Like I said, the step by step process would be nice.h
Sure, but this will be hefty.
My party is, Fang(I control her), Lightning, and Hope.
Equipment wise Fang has 4 accessories all of which give her +attack. I have 2501 attack on her. I took her first weapon she ever gets, raised it to 26, evolved it, then maxed it out at 61. I took Lightnings most magic weapon and did the same, as well with Hope. So all 3 have a LV2 maxed out weapon. As for lightning and hopes accessories it's a mix between + hp and + magic attack. The +magic is mostly on Lightning so she has 1757 magic, and 16715 HP. Hope has 2114 magic attack, and 15840 HP. Oh and Fang has 21,135 HP.
I only use 2 different roles to make this work for the 3 members. Fang-Jammer Level 5 max. Lightning Enhancer Level 1(just for extra buffs fast at start of fight). Hope level 5 Enhancer max.(You REALLY need him to get haste cast on at least 2 of you before you use your summon)
My other role is Defender Fang, Healer for the other two.
Fight starts and my start role is Jammer, Enhancer enhancer. I quickly auto battle hit fangs jammer stuff on one of the legs. Hopefully the order in which your AI buddies buff you will be Protect on all 3 before a foot stomp. If a foot comes down right away before any buffs happen. Restart the fight. Sometimes they randomly hit on the first start of the fight, but usually 4/5 times they wait till you have protect on all 3. Once all 3 have protect, they'll do random buffs like +atk +magicatk, etc. Your goal during this phase is to just keep hitting auto battle jammer on the foot. Once Hope casts haste on himself, he'll quickly get it on you. It's not that necessary for lightning so I never wait for her to have it too. Around the second this happens Lightning and Hope are down to about 3,000 critical red HP, so i quickly bust out Bahamut.
Now that Bahamut is out with you, stay on jammer and debuff him while Bahamut beats him up. You want to FOR SURE have defense down, magic defense down, and that elemental resistance down. Everything else you can get is extra. I usually swap Fang to attacker when Bahamut is at about 9,000 SP left before he'll go away. During this whole time you have to keep doing auto battle for both jammer and when you shift to attacker. You have to be super fast. As I start doing a ton of damage, the monster usually gets broken, and once Bahamut is down to 300 or less SP I enter Drive mode.
Once in Drive mode I only do up and X and down and X. Left and Right X take too much time and don't do as much damage. X by itself also is pointless. You can just spam UP and X to play it safe. If for whatever reason the break meter is about to be gone before Bahamut automatically does Mega Flare or w/e on its own due to you runing out of the AP in the lower left, then hit triangle and do it manually. Usually though you'll still have a nice 1/5th chunk left of the broken meter left to work with as he does mega flare. The flare should do about 500,000 damage.
Then it'll go back to your party and you will be on ATK BLA BLA automatically with full HP and all the buffs you had. The adamantoise is still down, and the timer for when he stands back up starts over. Pummle away by slamming auto battle for attacks as Fang, and don't let up. Pretty quickly with all the debuffs and buffs you have one he should have his meter broken once again. Just keep doing auto battle, and before you know it you are doing 99,9999 a pop with any party member because his meter is at 999.99%. He just pretty much dies in about 1 minute total doing this.
I don't think I missed any steps. The reason I use Hope is he has the most magical attack. Same reason I use lightning. Lightning tho could be swapped out for Vanille for more blaster damage, and another enhancer if you make her do ENH too. I'm guessing Sazh MIGHT work, but his magic attack is really low compared to Hope Lightning and Vanille. So I wouldn't recommend it.
I don't think anyone has more attack than Fang in the game at this point(or any point?) so that's why her summon is the best choice for this method. I tried with everyones summon experimenting earlier, and the only other one that slightly kept up was Alexander, but Hope doesn't have debuffs to help the summon during SP mode.
I hope this helps, if not you'll have to find your own method. :(

Yeah it's the same one. That's odd that it's not working... sometimes I have to restart once or twice, but it never takes too long. But if you're killing them in minutes the regular way that's probably the better method. I'll have to try it the next time I play.

The crystarium maxes out at level 10 once you beat the final boss. The max a role can go to is level 5. Best bet is max out each characters main 3 roles at whatever you can cap. Don't spend any on the random LV0 things as they cost a jigaton to raise and give barely jack crap compared to the main 3 roles in terms of stat boosts.
Once you have them all maxed out I'd go finish the game through to the end of chapter 13. Keep saving all your CP until the crystarium hits level 9, then you can go raise your main 3 roles again. Once those max out, save up again until you beat the final boss for level 10 crystarium.
Some of the mission bosses in Gran Pulse are really impossible without 5ATB skills, limit breaks, and over 10,000 HP, so you may as well save it all for once you beat the game. :)

FINALLY! I got done with the tower and moved on to Chapter 12... The Pope v2 is tough, I think it took me about 20 minutes to defeat him, but I did it on the first try. After that, a great cut scene with all the summons on your arrival to Cocoon... wow...
A few final notes about Chapter 11...
1) I know its a high cost, and the advice has been predominately to not upgrade CP levels on non-default roles... However, I found that upgrading the healer ability to LV 1 on all the characters, even if its not their default role, was worth it... at least upgrade them so they all have Cure... that's not too expensive... then no matter what your party is, you can have an "oh crap" optima setting in which you've got all three characters casting Cure with 5 ATB bars each... that's what I do a lot now, I leave everyone attacking and breaking, and quickly switch to ALL HEAL mode when I need to, this leaves the Break Bar up high and allows you to continue it easily when you switch back to attacking, and you spend a minimum time on healing... plus if you have a leader with Raise in the party, then you don't have to worry about anyone but the leader... if someone dies, just switch to full healing mode and they're quickly back on their feet with full health. This lets me take bigger risks, staying in Rush Assault mode and trying to kill everyone before I need to heal, so I can finish fights quicker and get more stars... but if it doesn't work out, I can quickly switch to all healing mode and the party gets its health back much quicker than any other method other than using the Full Cure TP ability, which I only like to use against bosses, because of the TP cost.
2) Nobody has mentioned this yet, I don't think... but in Gran Pulse you have to be very weary of what weapons you equip. In Chapter 11 you find new weapons for all party members, and most of these new weapons have no break ability. The weapon status will list the weapons powerups, and it'll say "Break" in katakana, then following that is three kanji... the first kanji is "不" and this is a negation kanji, it basically means "not" or "un" as in a prefix like "unsatisfying"... Basically the weapon's power up means it has no break ability. So I could only read two of the three kanji, but I incorrectly assumed it would surely not mean "no break ability" because that would be stupid... so I had these new weapons equipped on all my party, and I couldn't break anyone, it would fill the bar and they would never break... so frustrating... this made for some long battles, because I had already disassembled or sold their previous weapons before I figured this out. So be very weary of these weapons... you need at least one party member who is a blaster or attacker and doesn't have their weapon equipped that is one of these "no break ability" weapons... That was very annoying, and should be mentioned as something people should look out for, because I didn't fully realize the meaning of that negative ability until I had all three of my party members equipped with that type of weapon... You try to go into a boss fight without the ability to break him, and you're going to be spending a lot of time on that fight.

Just in case you guys are wondering, this definitely is the fastest CP earning method.
I have a double CP item and killing Ochu nets me 26600 CP every 20-30 seconds. After killing Ochu, run back to your save point and by then Ochu will re-spawn. Rinse and repeat.
You can get this double CP item from Mission 55. If you're having problems with Mission 55, just use Vanille's death spell on him and you're all good. To activate Mission 55, you must complete all 1-50 missions.
Oh, and it's not really necessary to touch Ochu from behind to get a preemptive strike, because touching him from the front will get you a preemptive strike, anyways.

It says 不可能BREAK, if I remember correctly, which means "impossible/can't BREAK" so you're right. That's the reason why I never equipped them in the first place.

Thanks a lot... I didn't know that middle kanji... the word is "fukanou" which means "impossible".
Anyone that takes the JLPT test, if you have a study book, you'll see the third kanji fuka"nou" on your study book... the "nou" kanji means "ability" and it's in the japanese version of the title of that test. nihongo "nou"ryoku shiken.

No problem. I actually knew that from Chinese, because it's written exactly the same and means the same thing. Was there anything good about the weapons though? I didn't pay much attention to it after I saw the "no break" effect, but I would think it'd be pretty pointless if the weapons were bad or didn't give any other boosts.

Hi everyone :)
Anyone know how to beat the last bost at top of the dungeon (with the gaurdians who ask you to complete missions to move foward)? You know, the one whom had parts of it chopped off (by the guardians) during your ascent towards the top...
I have Lightning, Sazh, and Snow in my party and I start off with HLR/ENH/DEF.
It hardly have time to recover after it does what looks like a gravija blast.
Please help...
Thank you very much.

I played this part yesterday and my main were Light, Fang and Vanille. I used the smoke item before the battle so that we'd have haste and etc.
I started with BLA/JAM/HLR until Fang would give him some status changes. After that I'd quickly switch to BLA/ATK/HLR so that I could get the break status. This is the important thing, to get him to break as many times as you can so that he stays downed doing nothing and then you can pound him BLA/ATK/BLA.
As soon as he prepared his special atack, I got HLR/DEF/HLR. This gave me enough to heal almost all of our HPs back up then I'd quickly switch to BLA/ATK/HLR again.
Unfortunately I didn't have any Enhancer but I believe that would have helped a lot instead of using JAM with Fang. All in all, just be quick to switch to HLR/DEF/HLR as soon as the special attack name appears on the screen.
I didn't see anyone mentioning it but you can find this item needed to upgrade the Good Choice item into Best Choice on a treasure orb at Oerba Village, in the garden going through a house.

You get more slots by getting them on the Crystallium, just like HP+, ATTK+ and etc. The third slot should be available once you are able to lvl up the roles to lvl 4, Crystallium lvl 8 if I'm not mistaken. It will be in different roles for each character; Lightning's is on ATK or BLA role, Fang's is on DEF, Vanille's on HLR or JAM and etc.

Once you get there, there will be a cutscene which takes you right into battle with the mission target.
how do u beat him its really hard.

You can grind mission 7 if you really want to.
Otherwise, you can just continue through the game. You'll pick up a lot more CP/gil along the way. Enough to beat the game, anyway.

im using this method to farm CP n Gil which i think is the best way..
:lol::lol: works like a charm... exspecially with my party
snow, vanille, lightning.... 3x blaster main spec nuke.. then 2x attk, 1x jam cleanup.
what is malboros wand so important, im using it but dont notice the buff.. what is it?

update on fast CP earning
once u gotten CP x2 accessory, go to the place before u enter mahabara mine where u will see a behemoth and a big wolf fighting each other, its always preemptive whenever u touch them.. 1 round avg 12-15 secs gaining 13.2k CP just run to save point n back.. 1 min 52.8k CP
sure some might say its better to grind at ochu for 26k CP per round but considering the time u run to save point to make it respawn and run back, time is wasted

It opens up in Ch 11, but Ch 12 and 13 are more linear again. There is an insane amount of stuff to do in Ch 11 though. In Ch 13 you open a warp to return to both Ch 11 and Ch 12, so you don't have to worry about finishing everything in Ch 11 before progressing by any means.

I'd say it develops during the cause of time, especially towards the end of the game. I didn't mind it being linear (for quite some time), the battle system is just amazing and makes this game a lot of fun.
Also chapter 11 is so damn huge, you can spend more time here exploring than finishing chapter 1-10 combined.

Actually, it does help. And this from seeing players challenge the beast, mostly on justin tv. One of the justin tv players had either 5 or 6-slots. Yeah, they were getting hit with the stomp attack. But at like 10,000HP, you'd have a better chance of taking it down.
The players on youtube have only like 4000-4800HP. And they'd be Game Over if they went in and challenged him.

Lightning - オメガウェポン level 81 + 2 x best choice + 2 x 1000hp
Vanille - Nirvana level 71 + 2 x best choice +2 x 1000hp
Fang - ビーナスゴスペル level max + 2 x best choice +2 x 1000hp
Optimal setting
Started the fight with Lightning as Enhancer (must be role level 4 for haste) Vanille and Fang as Healers. For convenient sake, I will keep this arrangement for roles: Lightning / Vanille / Fang.
Once fully buffed, switch to Atk / Bls / Jam and summon immediately. Spam as much spells as possible to charge up break bar but do not go into drive mode (because it will reset the bar).
After summon retreats, Fang will start to debuff while Vanille and Lightning will continue to charge break bar. (Try to get into break mode as soon as possible). After fully debuffed, change to Bls / Bls / Atk to charge bonus damage to 999%. Switch to Atk / Bls / Atk the moment you are near 999% and continue to spam until it dies.
If you are under geared, most probably you wont kill it when it is still under knock down status. You might need to shave off the remaining hp while it is awake. Do your best to survive while letting your Fang to bring it down.

Side question for you: Do best choices stack? Just curious if you have 6 equipped out of hope, or out of knowledge/proof :O

Crystollis, I am just trying out, doesn't seems to stack though =/ I don't see any increment in the drop rates.
ckleckner, you can buy good choice from shop and upgrade them to best.
There are no concrete proof that best choice stacks, but since i don't need any accessories to farm admans, might as well stack them to try it out and hope for the best. Unless Kouli can confirm this =p.

Apologies for asking this if it has already been answered, I skimmed the previous pages, but I may have missed it.
I know that this chapter is huge. I also noticed some of you mentioned about "finishing the rest" after beating the game. Does this mean one can return to Gran Pulse after reaching chapter 12 or 13? Or is it from re-loading an a separate save file?

I'm pretty sure Kouli said in one of Gamefaq's threads that they do NOT stack (sorry but I do not remember the name of the thread; you might wanna search).
He said we should have one Good Choice AND one Best Choice, those two do work together since the first gives better chances of getting common items and the later gives better chance of rare items.

The exclamation mark means you are close to a treasure. You should be wandering around this area until the treasure message pops up. I believe the chocobo head will point which direction you should search. Also, you will never dig on the green parts.

Hmmm let me see if I know how to explain this. Did you see two red statues so far? One opens up a path to the chocobo, and there is another red statue somewhere in pulse (on this same map though) that opens up another area. Before you get to this red statue there are a bunch of golems and those punching monsters with a hole in their bellies . Once you complete the requirement of that red statue the path ahead will open up to a slope where the trial of the titans will take place! Hope this helps.

Scene drive was not meant to do damage. It's meant to bring up the enemy's break guage value real fast in break state so that you're other party members can do more damage. Also if the enemy's break state is about to finish then its a good idea to do another scene drive since the break state will not disappear until the attack finishes, giving your other party members one last chance to attack.
And no, platinum ingots do not have any other use besides gil.

I was having that problem as well yesterday, but once I got a hold of Vanille's belladona wand and upgraded it, eventually (didn't take too long) death worked on it. But yeah, this boss is a pain... >_<
So yeah, if you don't have this wand you might wanna work on getting one because it betters the chance of her jammer abilities to work.

to cynricng : there are 2 types of teleport
the 1st is at chapter 13 when u completed the game it allows u to teleport to gran pulse to finish ur other side missions n stuffs..
2nd is at gran pulse itself.. those monument which appear orange on the map when u press square, those allow u to teleport to various places within gran pulse
Some ppl have been asking about this tele port thing including myself (I've read every page b4 I wrote this).
I just finished pope v2 and after that I went back to the save point to save.
Now I want to go back to Gran pulse and do the missions (which I never did, just wanted to rush and clear chapter 11, but I stopped after i finished the pope v2).
So where can I find the monument orange thing? the only thing that's orange is those side missions and they aint teleporting me anywhere :'(
I've tried pressing square on every orange thing and I only get the map :(
Am I suppose to go all the way back to the field without teleporting?
I wanna do mission 1 and all the rest :(

Open your map and look for inverted U sign with a dot in the center. That is the location of a monument, I hope you know this. Now normal mission monument is blue in color. Those that enable teleporting are the one's in orange color. Beside the central plain with had 2 orange monuments, the rest of the areas only consist of 1 each zone. You will need to do the quest on the monument to enable it's teleporting ability though.

BTW to all nooblets, including myself, arriving on pulse. Kill the cactaurs-they're worth 5000 cp each, and fairly easy to kill compared to the other beasts on this world. Perfect for those who didn't really bother grinding, and those just in the few hours of the chapter like me(those not strong enough to take on the big cheeses of this place)

Again, could someone give me tips on beating Galenth/Pope dude?
Start off with two Jammers - at the start he is very weak to all debuffs. As soon as you have all the debuffs on him switch to Rush Assault or something that chain breaks fast, and just pummel! At the start he does hardly any damage so its your chance.
Once he grows faces the bio/curse etc starts, get TWO healers to counter these with Esuna, and if the debuffs are running low then use Healer/Healer/Jammer. Otherwise just keep one attacking.
As soon as you see you are nicely healed up and preferably with no curse/bio, switch to another chain breaking attack form. As long as you have slow/deprotect etc on its easy to do a lot of damage and not take too much yourself.
Starting with a haste/attack smoke is also very useful.

I think the behemoth and the white tiger fighting spot is the best place to farm. Here is to elaborate more details
I use snow/lighting/vanilla
-ATK/BLA/BLA first, attack behemoth (hold snow) first. BLA alone will make it break then let snow attack immediately (send him to air)
-after snow finish, change to ATK/ATK/BLA mid air
-press attack when u only have 3 attack slot immediately to send behemoth to air again (if u are slow, then he might able to transform)
-after snow finish attack, change to ATK/BLA/BLA mid air
-repeat the step til he die (he prolly die already if u're strong enough)
-then attack white lion with ATK/HEAL/JAM
-Let vanilla jam his defense first then change to ATK/ATK/BLA
-Then ATK/BLA/BLA, or ATK/BLA/HEAL if u need heal
-repeat til he die (the jammer def debuff help a lot!)
Enjoy the grinding!

For a 5* ranking. ATB cacelling is also important. And you want to Break early and as many times. This'll make the battle short. Even though you may be in a long battle .
1 With 5 slots. Go up to 3 or 4 slots
2 ATB cancel
3 If you did it right. The ATB gauge will be at max on your next turn.
Oh and don't forget to use the Synergist - SYN (ENH)/SAB - Saboteur (JAM) combo. Even some of the bosses succumb to these Paradigms.

For Lightning, it'd actually would benefit you if you got her Omega Weapon, or some other weapon that increases the Break meter quick. Well, not just Lightning.
You'd have 6 ATB slots. And your attacks would continously deal over 50,000. And you had max HP so you'd be able to also withstand their relentless assault.
People may say that you don't need such "buffs". I'd, personally say that they're a fool if they aren't well-prepared to fight these challenges.

I just read all of this thread and I wanna say thanks to many of you for the great tips. Some of you though are either jerks or idiots. Completely unnecessary spoilers are not what anybody wants from a thread like this, not least of all me. So the two or three guys who talked aboutan upcoming "awesome" rush type scene at the beginning of 12 (was it? thank God i forgot) involving the characters and their summons, the new upcoming fight with Galenth, and of course the idiocy of mentioning Orphan's cradle being at the end of the game. Can you guys please go be stupid somewhere else?
Also it was annoying (as usual) to see people asking questions that had already been answered in the thread. Do you need a personal reply to find simple stuff out? No. You're on the thread for a reason, read it. These kinds of question happen allot, people are lazy.
I'm more just upset about the spoilers. If you're unaware of your stupidity then maybe consider editing that stuff out.
Other than that, thanx for the great info.

I'm more just upset about the spoilers...idiots. If you're unaware of your stupidity then maybe consider editing that stuff out.
Other than that, thanx for the great info.
I think you're being too much pessimistic.
Actually spoilers are allowed in this forum. (Walkthough = spoiler anyway!?) I do agree not to disclose any sensitive plots in these threads however, there aint necessary to blame people and called them stupid/idiots/etc if they spoil a bit here unwillingly.
Repetitive stuffs happened. (especially with 10+ pages topic) Also i dont see the point to brag them about these things.
In sum, i think please cut the crap, and stick to the topic. no need to waste time pissing ppl by blaming them around here.

As for the farming, i recommended you people to farm a lot (at least all cha lv4 max with some reserve CPs) with the taijin tower trick (mission 24 at 4th-5th fl) or the behemot/tiger spot otherwise you're going to have a hell in the next chapter like me =-='''

I've said my peace. After re-reading it this morning.. it sounds harsh. I think in most ways, tajz is right. But I still hated those few spoilers. I get it, since it's a spoiler thread, yes; I'm the idiot.
Thanx to the other 10+ pages of people for not spoiling I guess...(even though it's a "spoiler thread");). I suppose maybe one person's "spoiler" is another person's "necessary detail" is another person's "God-given right." I'll stop being an off-topic troll now.
EDIT: It'd be great if the mod here could update the first post so people can get the info they want. twelve pages is allot to go through. Maybe an FAQ that answers-
1. what's the best way to get CP when first entering Gran Pulse?
2. When and where is the best 2nd tier CP/Gil collecting in GP?
3.What's most advantageous Crystalliums to level.
4. What does finishing chapter11 unlock, and is it worth it to go through the chapter before hardcore CP collecting/doing lots of hunts?
5. What are the different hunt markers (on the map)? How do hunts work? (hunt cancelling, repeating hunts, unlocking later hunts).
6. How do I kill an Adamantoise King, what does it give me.
That seems to be the jist of what people wanna know. Other certain bosses in the Chapter could have strategies written up, but I imagine levelling characters would make the bosses quite doable. Low-level strategies could be there too. I know I'm basically saying, "hey mod, do a bunch of work." But I think the answers to these repeated questions would help.
My personal answers to the questions (that I've developed theories for) are:
1. The four totem pole munchkins to the left of the GP entrance that dance around an item orb. Come at them from the opposite side that you originally approach for a pre-emtive attack. Sazh casts haste and gives elemental damage status to others. Easy win, almost 3k cp. Continue past them, then turn back for a respawn. - these guys have a home, there's tons of 'em in a certain area of the map, but seeing as I wasn't will to work out a "pre-empt route" for there I just stuck with those four.
2. The dog and Behemoth fighting at the upper left exit of the initial GP map (according to first arrival). Pre-emptive strike is assured. Kill the Behemoth first. I had almost full level4 on my team's main 3 roles first.
Also, doing hunts and getting a double CP item (from Hunt55) might also be good to do first. But I haven't tried any hunts yet. The tower trick might be better, especially if you want gil. Never done it/never seen the tower yet.
3. The jobs that you have been previously levelling on each character. They give better stats for less cp.
I can see why there might not be an FAQ for this thread yet because people have different theories. But I think the info on this thread is getting pretty close to "FAQ ready" if not already.

This is from what i recognized after trial-error. (correct me if im wrong)
Hunt system: (mission system)
-There is a floating status (i called it mission status) floating in GP. Those which aint float it means your hunt level is too low to use it. (means you need to get back to previous mission first in order to activate them)
-The first mission status is around the entrance of GP, you will see it float. Approach it and accept. It will show "mission start" then you open menu and see the map. You will see the red dot around that's your target. Approach the red dot on the map, and kill it. You will get "mission complete".
(During mission, you may see another flying mission status, if u approach it, it will ask whether you want to change mission or not. If you change, your current mission target will dissapear and you will now begin another mission) (You only able to accept one mission at a time)
-My recommend is to follow from mission1,2,3, so forth to avoid confusion. There will be long walk that's for sure!
-I think around mission 3-4, your target may not be visible. But it actually visible but it's in another zone. I think you need to get into mountain zone (small narrow part), around your start point where hope get his summon. Backtrack a bit and you will see there is another way to inner mountain. These will consist of mission 4-8 i guess.
-In case you skip the missions like me and approach the taijin tower. There is pre-required mission which will bring you up to mission 20+.
-In case you move forward from GP to another chapter. There will be warp gate which can warp you back to GP soon at chapter13 after enter the palace right at the beginning of chapter13 so no worry, you dont need to beat the final boss in order to get the warp gate! (However if you aint farm properly i think you will have a very hard time in chapter 12 before get to the warp gate.)
-Some people advised you to beat the final boss first to unlock all crystaliam level. (still you may need to farm a bit else he prolly will be too hard!) (I heard people recommending hp around 7k+)
-Mission can be re-try at anytime, you just need to talk to the status again. You will get the same reward as well so those who really want all 5-star can retry as many as they like.
I will update later on since now i'm just trying to backtrack all the missions (now completed inner mountain zone around mission9)

-One more about the early mission. If you want 5-star i think you will need to use reserve smoke (the one that give u haste) before the fight (press L1 , you will see list of items to use before approach the fight) The fight during those mission1-10 is not so hard however you will need to finish as fast as you can to get 5-star thus you cant buff urself in fight. (i usually get around 4 star =-='', but meh! i cant get all 5star anyway)

Anyone know where is the best place to farm for weapon upgrade?
The taijin tower mission24 trick is i think the best place to farm CP/Gold (each 6k each time). However i dont see any good drops which give much exp for weapon... any idea to farm for weapon upgrade? Or i just have to farm gold to buy the exp item in shop? (what's the name of that?)
that method is for starters.. as u reach lvl 4 on ur 3 main roles and upgraded ur weapons.. move on to complete the game to get lvl 5 roles and start farming adamantoise

farming adamantoise is it for CP or Gil? i can't seem to get any drop from it despite having 2 best choice equipped

adamantoise is for CP. you gain massive of 40k i think
Gil you may get from one of their rare drop (sell 150k) but it is used for weapon upgrade lv2 to lv3.

so is it true then that level 5 roles don't unlock until the end of the game? I was hoping/thinking that they'd unlock at the end of chapter11. So, what (if anything) unlocks for beating chapter 11?

Complete chapter 11 i think only unlock one crystalium level. You will not reach the highest lv if u do not beat the game.

just a warnign to people after beating the game and as u lvl up ur crystal lvls. masterll s mission 17 was done in 1 min 5 sec while he was at crystal lvl 8. i finished the game and rechallenged 17 to get 5 stars and the time went down to 40 sec reconmmended which means i now need to beat him in less then 30 sec to get 5 stars. 30 sec gave me only 4 stars. its hard to break him that fast even after u lvled up alot becaus eh heas high defense and takes time to break.so i say you should 5 star as many as u can before beating chapt 11 or it will become harder to do so.

I have found four of the parts for vanilles pet but i cant seem to find the fith one. The only "target" icon leftg on my screen is in the room the pet is and nothing happens. Does anyone have an idea of the areas where these parts are? Dont know if this has been posted yet so sorry for the redundance if it has already been discussed.

I'm stuck on 64 and I've done 5 stars on all the other missions minus 51 and 64. SOOOOO CLOSE to platinum, but it stinks that it's hard to farm gil.

Well, I also have a concern as well. Why do people like masterll in the video below keep Snow in Defense,
YouTube- ??????????? FFXIII JP - Mission 51 "Spartacus" (5?) (P01/02) [HD]
I know it's for the Shiva boss. But to keep him in that mode for other battles seems pointless.

Snow can provoke the enemy so that it only attacks him. This way Lightning and Fang can deal damage without getting hit. Snow has the highest defense too (and I think he also has a regen ability, because I saw his HP increasing), so he won't get killed easly. He's a diversion, basically.

I think he want 5 star rank. Dmg taken is also another factor to calculate so if u take too much dmg, you wont get 5 star :)

Jan 11 2010, 12:40 PM
Are you sure? I though it was only based on the time. If it's a lot lower than the estimated time, you get 5 stars.

Too bad, cause there's lots of items I can't reach yet.
how can it be that they only summon their own kind? almost everysingle time i find those birds, (and not just one type but most of its 'species') they always summon big stuff like one of those huge tiger/wolf things (sorry i dunno what they're called) and i always end up dead or having to fight like mad just cos of those tiny penguins. how can you counter those summons? sometimes i hit them and they stopped but mostly they dont

You just have to kill them faster. Without even being level capped, if you have Lightning's ATK (3), (2) and a decent damage dealing Fang, the battle can be done in 6-11 seconds on average. Aim for pre-emps, their systematic spin is easy to read.

i see will try that thanks. though my characters hope light and fang are alr lvl3 crystarium going 4 and they are still having a hard time. btw how is it systematic? when i see them turn around i go closer, then they quickly turn back around in reponse XD

The penguin will summon tiger if u're slow to kill them. AoE of the ATK work quite well.
I think i can summary the farming step to be like this,
Gran Pulse:
-Penguin Farming
-White Tiger/Behemot Pre-Em Farming
-Taijin Tower Mission 24 lv5 Farming (I already able to finish the final boss with appx 7k hp)
-Ochu Farming (?, not so sure will have to see the difficulty)
-Vanilla Death Trick big elephant Farming
@Renzo: sorry for misunderstanding u. What i ment by the dmg taken is that it is involved but not the main goal. To get 5 star you just need to down the guy fastest to beat the mission time. (Mission time vary by ur stat) However for some bosses that hit very very hard, if u dont have defender to absorb/reduce dmg, half of ur time will be waste in the healing instead. That's why he chose to have defender i think.

I am in Taejin's Tower, and I have completed missions 21-26 and unlocked the elevator up to the top. However, my problem is that I want to farm mission 24 for CP and gil. Unlike other missions, I can't seem to go back and play any of 21-26. Does anyone know if it's possible to go back and replay them? I have not beaten the game at this point and would like to keep farming gil and CP before I move on. :(
