« Chapter 7 (http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10105) | Chapter 9 »

The basics of how to play the game won't be explained in this thread. We have a separate tutorial thread (http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9967) set up for just that purpose.

This is the chapter where you battle and acquire Brynhildr.

Brynhildr is susceptable to debuffs, so start with ENH/JAM so Sazh can buff up the group with Haste, Enblizzard(and other buffs if you have the chance) while Vanille debuffs.

Once Brynhildr is weakened, stick with BLA/BLA to finish filling the drive bar. Make sure you Libra her so that Vanille uses Blizzard(and Blizzara if you happen to have it).

Since Sazh doesn't have HLR, you can set an optima with Vanille as HLR and switch in and out of it quickly when needed or use potions if you have enough.

Brynhildr was a tough one for me, the hardest battle fought so far. I used the same strategy as described by ptd, however I spent 2-3 hours powering up my two main characters for this battle after previously failing numerous attempts.

Make sure your HP is high enough when going into this battle, plus have Vanille's healing level on at least level 2 (or better lv3). I used ENH/JAM, then afterwards switched between BLA/HEA and BLA/BLA. A high HP and good healing helps a lot, so you have more time to blast magic.

Thought the fight was rather easy, it all comes down to make preparations (just like the devs said).

ptd pretty much nailed what you have to do (ATK/BLA Optima is really useless for Summon Battles).

The only thing I like to recommend for the fight , use a Power Smoke when you run up to the fight. I barely see people using Smokes efficiently. Power Smoke will give you Haste/ATK UP and so on. With that you just need a few buffs from Sazh and then you can keep owning Bryn. (I can only recommend this for all boss battles, makes life just easier.

I initially had the same strategy as ptd, but for me it was insufficient. I had only around 800 hp and Vanille's healing was still on level 1. Without healing I died in 2-3 moves. And with my level of healing, it required me to maintain BLA/HEA during the whole battle, which was insufficient to beat him.

This was my first battle I struggled with, but after spending some time powering up the strategy worked fine.

Yeah, this was the first battle I needed help with... my problem was not only that I wasn't using the debuffs or enhancements, but also I had lusted after getting the "raise" ability and wasted all my crystal points on stuff that wasn't useful for this battle... so I had to spend a few hours killing people and gaining points before going back to this battle. If you save your game, then quit final fantasy and load it back up from XMB, when you load your saved game all the monsters will be back on the level again, so you can go kill them all and then save your game and repeat. I did this probably a dozen times to get more crystal points so that I could get more HP and so I could get Blizzara before going back and beating this boss... unfortunately now I'm stuck again... on the Fallacy boss that looks like the pope, and I have no idea how to beat him... he's just kicking the crap out of me.

You could have saved yourself a little bit of time there. Just walk towards the hall (where you are going to face Brynhild), then return straight back. All monsters will be back. Still a lot of time involved though.

I did basically the same thing as described above, but I never used the JAM role. I had Sazh as ENH and Vanille as BLA first, had Sazh buff the 2 and then switched to BLA/BLA. I finished the battle with about 100 left on the counter though, so I don't know if JAM would have allowed me to finish it faster.

I use Vanille as a Jammer, but she never seems to debuff him. I see her casting the spell, but I guess it never hits. It takes like a full minute for him to get debuffed.

I did stick the debuffs first try, but sometimes they would disappear near his drivebar only to re-appear 5 secs later. I think it's just a little graphic bug where the icons are sometimes "behind" Bryn.

Thankfully I had grinded my characters alot previous to this. I made the HUGE mistake of saving after the mini-boss fight with only Sazh in party thinking there were mobs ahead to grind on.

Note: if you have to grind here, do so before the boss, which is right after the 2nd save point once you reach the PSICOM soldiers and mobs in this chapter. With Sazh only I'd have been stuck, thankfully I made other save copies just in case of this.

This is a rather silly question but I seem to use the Smokes? They are not available on the item menu during fight! Must I equip them beforehand? How?

I was [--] this close to getting her! The few other tries weren't even near that T_T Vanille's debuffs helps a lot! But to get them to work is another story...

frustrating fight! after 2 hours of trying I am going to stop being stubborn and just load an old save and grind. Imagine if I didn't keep an older save....

I did it on my second try without grinding and forgot to use smoke. Just enhancer/jammer, libra, then put both to blaster switching to blaster/healer when needed. I think I had a couple hundred on timer, and I haven't used the shops or weapon customising at save points yet either. I got a bit lucky with healing.

wow this chapter was so short! anyways, i used ENH/JAM first, and then Libra, and BLA/BLA, i cant believe i didnt set BLA/HLR (because i didnt know the fight would be so soon) and i kept using potions...but anyways, it was quite easy =) (because i grinded quite a bit last chapter =P)

there are 2 ships you can go on at the beginning of this chapter, nautilus park and nautilus station or something. does it matter which one you choose?

As far as I know, the lift to Nautilus Station just takes you back to the first area, where you first arrived in Nautilus and see the cutscene about the Sanctum pursuing Lightning, Hope, Fang and Snow.

I'm doing this battle right now. I just started over because I died. I got the gestalt bar all the way up and I pressed the X button but I still lost! I die, like, right as I pressed the button or maybe before it. Oh man, how many chapters are in this game? Well, I just skipped the cutscene and I'm about to fight it again.

EDIT: Just did it. Thank you Potion! That's why I died before, I guess. Because I refused to use potions because I thought it would mess me up when I was so close to victory. Also, thank you, guide.

i think its quite obvious on how many chapters are there in the game just by looking at the forum?

Here is my guide to beating Brynhildr (It's how I did it.)

Before the battle, make sure you put on any Fire-Resist Rings you have, and (if you have it) a ring that improves potions, and other defensive equipment if possible.

The Paradigm you specifically want to generate is "Yin Yang" which is a balanced (Ravager + Medic) Paradigm. Make sure Sahz, as a Ravager, has blizzard/water/that stuff.

At the start of the battle, switch to Yin Yang, and use Libra. Went that is done with, start whacking at him with the auto-attack function, which should revolve around destroying him through his weakness, since you used Libra. As both of you get hit, Vanille should heal you and her both. If both of you get damaged badly, don't be afraid to take the time and brake out a potion or a phoenix down if you have to.

If you want to press your luck, when you are about to get the bar full and you feel comfortable with both characters health, bust out the "Dual-Casting" Paradigm if you have it and you can push through pretty quickly.

You should be able to beat him with this tactic. If not, tell me.

I used the strategy ptd suggested. I used Libra twice and started out with (since I have the English version) Synergist and Saboteur. Vanille stuck something on the Eiolodon but I'm not sure what it is. I had Sazh boost with Haste, Faith, and Enfrost (in case I needed to switch to my Commando/Medic). Then I switched to Raveger/Raveger and let loose. I don't even have Blizzard for Vanille or Sazh, they just battered her with Thunder/Aero. I did have to switch to COM/MED a few times, and I threw two potions when I didn't feel like switching. I beat her with 700 still on the clock.

how high should my atk be and magic also for sazh. hp also. i keep dying and i havent been up to the boss yet. sazh just seem to be overly weak and vanille is strong but not as strong as she should be. and what weapon should i ahve for nautilus. im sorry if i sound liek a lost child but it gets really fustrating when i hear 50 times ... daddys not coming home.

Here is the strategy that I used:

Before fighting, make sure to use Firstol, Aegisol and Ethersol if you dont have any librascopes. Using these will give you a big boost in stats. This will protect and it will also give you haste, which you need quickness to take them down. I had about 900 hp each.

Both Sahz and Ver were at level 2 in just about everything. I didn't make level 3 tier but was close with both. i bypassed raise for the time being.

The trick is to keep attacking, but also keeping up on your heals. I found that i switched between fast attacks, healing and magic attacks. Because you already have braver, faith and all those, you don't have to worry about buffs. Make sure you have some potions because you may on occasion need to fire them off when you aren't healing so quick.

Keep attacking, i auto attacked a lot, but ruin seemed to come up quite a bit. i did use quack once, but you don't need to. I was able to take him down with about 200 seconds left on my doom clock. It was close and trust me when i say this, i almost broke my controler trying to press the squar button as soon as the gestalt guage reached max.

Am I the only one who finds this hard? I start out with Vanille and Sazh as Ravagers. They are both level 2 in Ravager, and Vanille is level 2 in Medic, and with a doctor's note, fully upgraded. When I get to about 400 health each, I change to Vanille as a healer, and use a potion, and when I'm full health go back to Rav/Rav. Can anyone give me advice? My characters can't level up in their respective roles for the time being.
