As I have understood his royal family lost and now he is a prince (~18 years) who tries to protect. From logo it is visible, that there is a face of a girl. Means that there will be a few romanticism.

I always had the thought that because Square Enix had announced this game as being the "darkest" Final Fantasy that that meant that you maybe played as the evil character terrorizing the good. I think this may be SE's first game where you play on the evil side.
if he said "darkest" it could mean that it was full of evil people who do evil deeds (like shinra). the main character could be good, but from what we see in the trailer, its also more than possible that you are the 'evil' character in the game. But ANYWAY i think its really awsome how he can turn his weapons into shields and move them in the air. kinda like Sora in Final form. Also from what i hear, hes protecting crystals that are trying to be used for the military... i think

thats the same for god of war. it just depends on how other characters think about the almighty one or the one with a lot of power. it usually connects to the main character as well.
