Final Fantasy XIII-2 is out! – in North America anyway. With it comes a final trailer which neatly compresses all the good bits of FFXIII-2 into one minute. We hope you’re enjoying your copy, and if you don’t have one, get one – or at least move to a country where it’s out.
Joining Lightning as an opponent in the coliseum, Lt. Amodar will also be available as a recruitable party member. If you do not remember him, he was Lightning’s superior in XIII. The fight against them will consist of 2 battles, with Amodar joining in on the second round. He wields a gigantic weapon which looks like another modification of a gunblade.
The whole DLC pack is due to release on the 7th of February, which costs ¥300 on the PS3 and 240 MSP on Xbox 360.

As most of you know, a few months ago I was flown out to L.A. by Square Enix and got to give FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 a preliminary spin. I’ll be honest, prior to attending this event, I was skeptical about XIII-2. Granted, I was excited for the game, the announcement trailer looked quite promising, as did the subsequent trailer featuring gameplay. Even so, after FINAL FANTASY XIII, I was unsure about a sequel. Don’t get me wrong, I liked XIII, a lot actually, I find I’m one of the bigger fans of the game. Criticism notwithstanding, I still felt wary about a XIII-2. So, it was a pleasant surprise when I finally got my hands on it, and almost instantly felt a lot better. It was clear right from the get go that Square Enix took XIII’s criticism to heart and worked hard to improve on things in XIII-2.
Now Square has thankfully given us a full review copy of the PS3 version, here is my final impressions of their attempts to win back some of the pessimists.
Only 4 days to go until the game comes out in NA and a week for Europe! IGN will be doing a live-stream of XIII-2 and will go live at 11:00am – 1:00pm Pacific time. They will be playing through the first hours of the game so obviously there will be spoilers. Fans can ask their questions to IGN’s official Twitter account and there will be a give-away of XIII-2 goodies such as posters, a Lightning figurine, and a Collector’s Edition of the game. Expect a review as well afterwards.
S-E promised activities in XIII-2 to break up the endless battles and cutscenes, and it looks as though they’ve delivered in this all new trailer.
It’s mostly old stuff, but some of it is quite interesting. There are several types of puzzles within the time gates, from connect-the-dots style to the earlier seen clock puzzles. We also see demonstrations of the monster hunting sidequests, slot machines and chocobo racing. Lastly, it seems that there will be a man within the game (invisible and found by Mog in the trailer) who will quiz you on your knowledge. In the trailer, this Captain Cryptic quizzed Serah on the appearance of a particular structure within the game world.
XIII heroine Lightning, already confirmed to be a Coliseum battle through DLC, has been confirmed to be a playable character in XIII-2 also through the purchase of DLC. Not only will she join your party at some point in XIII-2, she’ll have her own secret episode. Along with this news, it’s been announced that other Final Fantasy bosses will make their own appearances much like Omega Weapon.
It was also announced that Square-Enix has plans to expand the XIII and XIII-2 story in other media, with novels promised featuring Sazh, his son Dahj and the mysterious and exuberant Chocolina.
