Famitsu: New Final Fantasy Type-0 Scans
Date: September 22nd, 2011 Author: Kitmitsu
News Category: Final Fantasy Type-0

Another feature has leaked out of the latest issue of Famitsu, this time about Final Fantasy Type-0. Two scans are available, depicting new characters and showing off a few new screenshots. Here’s a summary of what’s being said. Some of these characters were featured in the demo.

Aria – A subordinate of Class Zero who is responsible for selling items. She’s apparently quiet and obedient but can change.

Naghi – A student at the academy that sees himself as something of an idol. He’s known for being aloof and is a member of the Intelligence Club.

Carla – A student who is popular among the faculty because of her good grades. Similarly to Aria, she sells items but she also sells information. However, she’s known for requesting extortionate prices for the services she provides Class Zero.

Enkidu – Another Gelbu l’Cie who shares a childhood with Gilgamesh. He’s appeared alongside Gilgamesh in previous titles.

Diabolos (Diablos) – A war god which looks like a demon with the ability to absorb the HP of his enemies. His special ability is Gravity Sphere which will draw in enemies and when charged by the player, create a larger sphere. When being charged it will absorb the HP of anything in it’s path, including friends.

Battle for Supremacy

A minigame featured on the world map. The game involves moving troops around and capturing areas in an RTS styled manner. Different troops have different strong points e.g. specialized against machines. Special missions give you encampments to control and more troops to take charge of.

Dog Fighting

The airship you control has machine guns installed on it. This means you can take on mounted dragons controlled by Concordia in dog fights. There are various kinds of dragons, including larger ones used by the Royal Guard. You also fight them on the deck.

Arena

Simulation Battles – You can progress through 20 rounds of fighting to level up your characters and get them Phantoma. You still keep the experience if you die part way through.

Secret Training – A character can be selected to be trained while your PSP is in sleep mode. Details are unclear.

Four new Final Fantasy Type-0 commercials have begun airing on Japanese TV and this time, they aren’t cringe worthy comedy dub overs. They’re the more traditional type of commercial we’ve come to expect featuring the games theme song and a good montage of gameplay and story. See them all in the video below.

Jump’s latest issue has a page feature on Final Fantasy Type-0, this time revealing the inclusion of Diablos as a summon and two new l’cie. Nimbus (right), dubbed a “cyborg” l’cie from the Byakko Crystal is silent and enigmatic who has fought many rival l’Cie in the past. Setsuna (left) is from the Suzaku Crystal and is apparently the most senior l’cie. She’s a skilled summon magic user who can summon 1000 beasts at once.

The latest news coming out of Dengeki is that a downloadable version of Final Fantasy Type-0 will indeed be available, which was certainly in question for a number of fans. For those who don’t want to bother with the physical release or those that, say, only have a PSP Go and have no choice, here is your answer.

Even better is that this version will not only be cheaper, but it will be available on the same day as Type-0′s physical releases, October 27th

Again, no word yet on a release outside of Japan, but hopefully if and when it does, it will receive the same treatment.

Thanks to forum member Ffamran mied Bunansa for the heads up.

That’s right. Final Fantasy XIII got novellas, Final Fantasy Versus XIII got forgotten and now Final Fantasy Type-0 will be getting its very own manga adaptation. The comic will be run in Square Enix’s monthly Shonen Gangan magazine, starting November 11, and will be drawn by Takatoshi Shiozawa. You can check out the announcement illustration below.

Square Enix has now formally unveiled the finalized Final Fantasy Type-0′s collector’s edition which became available for pre-order through their Japanese e-store a few months ago.

As you can see, it all comes bundled together in a very nice, clear, red packaging. What is included is; the game’s soundtrack, a postcard book, and a bonus DVD, along with the actual game of course.

Naturally, along with this, the game’s cover has also been revealed, and, going along with Final Fantasy tradition, the cover consists of the original Yoshitaka Amano artwork along with the game’s logo on a plain white background. It may not be flashy or new, but it does make a nice statement.

The game itself retails for around 7,700 yen, while the collector’s edition will run you 12,760 yen.

Thanks to forum member Ffamran mied Bunansa for pointing this out.

Many new screenshots (a whopping 65 in total) have been released featuring a handful of the things recently highlighted in Japanese gaming magazines such as the 3 characters; Trey, Cater, and Cinque and also the Bahamut Summon. Renders of the newer character have also been included. Click “more” to see them all.

With Final Fantasy Type-0 coming out in just under two months, Square Enix has already started the advertising onslaught with three new commercials which have begun airing on Japanese TV. The characters in the adverts have been dubbed over with alternative voices, apparently saying something hilarious. I feel the humor will be lost on most of us. See all three in the video below.

Final Fantasy Type-0 Delayed

Looks like Japan and importers are going to have to wait a bit longer than planned for Final Fantasy Type-0. The game’s original October 13 release date has been written off in favour of October 27. The single for the game’s theme song has also been pushed back to October 19 (originally October 5) and the soundtrack itself is now being released on October 26 (originally October 12).

The delay is due to Square Enix wishing to polish the game further. At the release of Type-0′s Natsubi demo, director Hajime Tabata specified ongoing tweaks for the game’s camera and Phantoma system.

Given the fact that the game was announced alongside Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII back at E3 2006, another two weeks is pretty much a drop in the ocean.
