Final Fantasy Versus XIII Development Temporarily Suspended FFXIII RSS Feed

Final Fantasy XIII News

The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly contains an interview with Tetsuya Nomura which surprisingly, actually contains some new information regarding the Fabula Nova Crystallis Compilation. Of course it isn't the nice kind of surprise as it seems Final Fantasy Versus XIII's development has been put on hold. If only I was joking.

According to Nomura, the development of the compilation is having some troubles. Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been put on hold so the team can help with the development of Final Fantasy XIII as it's their number one priority. However the designers and artists will still be concentrating on working on the artwork and visuals for Versus. Final Fantasy Agito XIII is still in the early stages of development and Hajime Tabata, the director is now writing the entire synopsis himself which involves a huge timeline.

You could also see this in a disappointing way as well. Nomura says that although there will be the DKΣ3713 event in August, there will be more information at TGS in October. This implies that we won't be having any information at all until DKΣ3713 so E3 may not feature Final Fantasy XIII. I suppose we're used to waiting.

Final Fantasy XIII News

It has been rumored over at the FF&KH Blog that there will be new footage shown of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

- The camera switches angles so fast you will probably be "3D sick".

- The new character confirmed in this new footage is from Final Fantasy XIII.

- In Versus, a new character will be revealed as the enemy; he will be blonde or white-headed, presumably the hooded figure.

More hope for a simultaneous release of FFXIII and FF Versus XIII FFXIII RSS Feed

Final Fantasy XIII News

Square Enix president, Yoichi Wada, has stated once again that he wishes that simultaneous releases of Square Enix games to become standard to strengthen their businesses overseas. The western market is much more interested in the Japanese style games Square Enix are famous for and now provides them more business than Japan alone, so instead of creating and releasing the Japanese copy then going back and translating it, he wishes to join the development of the two stages.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is managing a worldwide simultaneous release, launching in Japan, North America and the UK & Europe on the same day, so Final Fantasy XIII using this strategy is not too far fetched.

Final Fantasy XIII News

The new issue of UK PLAY Magazine (issue no. 163) has released a preview on Final Fantasy XIII, and a very small article on progress and speculation of Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

The preview unfortunatly does not contain any new information or pictures from the Dengeki and Famitsu articles, but only breifly describes Final Fantasy XIII's plot, Female Protagonist Lightning and the Male Protagonist known as Mr. 33cm, with no mention of the newly introduced female character and enviroments.

It also gives a summary of Final Fantasy XIII compared to its predecessors, describing the structure of Final Fantasy XIII 'aiming to imitate the style of an MMORPG' differing from the previous Final Fantasy games, giving Final Fantasy XIII as more of 'players choice', making exploration more open within the game.

Final Fantasy XIII News

To celebrate Famitsu Magazine's 1001st issue have had the chance to interview Final Fantasy XIII character designer and Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura, as well as have him draw their cover.

Here you can see Characters from Final Fantasy including FFXIII and Versus XIII, as well as a..fox(?) with a Playstation-style Keyblade.

In the interview, he touches on all of the Fabula Nova Crystallis titles, but of course the new information is scarce.

He mentions that he is getting bored of the character names to do with weather and wishes to end this trend, and blames the names being based on weather this time on the rest of the team. He also re-explains Lightning's personality as "serious and unforgiving" and that when she meets new people she isn't all happy smiles, but cold and harsh. She is evidently a very strong character, and this kind of personality isn't surprising considering she is the leader of the rebel group. On the subject on character design, he also mentions that there have, as most design processes go, been multiple designs for Lightning which were rather different to what we have been shown, including an Asian version.

He also talks a bit about the Final Fantasy Versus XIII character design and how he was hesitant to introduce a character like his to the series. He also makes the point of stating He is not the least bit a silent, depressed little boy. [Please read through the full translation for a better perspective on this section of the interview] He also confirms that the Final Fantasy Versus XIII main character's name is also to do with weather and will be announced the next time they release more Final Fantasy Versus XIII info. As well as this, he makes the interesting comment that He does not act like Cloud or Squall as many people have already assumed. Instead, when you hear him speak your impression of him will change and he thinks that a lot of people might dislike this new view of his character. He also notes that The Prince's clothes are likely to be changed which he has mentioned before about 6 months ago, so next time we see him these changes maybe be put in place.

The only real mention of Final Fantasy Agito XIII is that the characters don't have proper names yet and refer to them by their appearance, much like we are.

BlankChocobo has scanned in her copy of Famitsu PS3 which contains 27 pages on Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. In case you're confused, the previous Famitsu scans were from Famitsu Weekly and these ones are from Famitsu's Playstation 3 specific magazine. There aren't any new images but many are displayed without text over the top of them.

"New" Final Fantasy XIII / Versus XIII articles on Famitsu.com FFXIII RSS Feed

Final Fantasy XIII News

Famitsu.com have pubished two serpated articles on Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, as they often do after their cover stories.

They have posted the screenshots of the images we have seen in the most recent scans. Unfortunately, they aren't much better quality but the Final Fantasy XIII ones at least aren't as grainy.

The articles basically summarize what we have read before in the scans. The Final Fantasy Versus XIII article explains that the theme for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is "bonds". Versus tells as story about "a group of young men" caught up in the struggle for the final crystal. They note that friendly and not-so friendly characters, and they question what roles they will play in the game. The Prince and his friends are said to be very closely bonded and loyal to each other. Famitsu also notes that the environments in the screenshots showing his friends look rather European, apparently.

The Final Fantasy XIII article tries summarize their new information on the basic plot; An entity created Cocoon, and those sent on a mission by the entity are said to be "Rushi". It also appears as though these "Rushi" are the ones who are able to call the summons. A more detailed and accurate description of this concept can be found here. The rest of the information is basically about the summons which we already know. (More information can be found in our translated scans)

Final Fantasy XIII News

The new Dengeki Playstation issue containing new FFXIII and Versus scans was released early on the same day as the Famitsu pages. However so far, no scans have surfaced from this issue. It turns out that the photos taken of a magazine here are actually from Dengeki, not Famitsu. A preview of the articles have been released on Dengeki.com though. The magazine is officially released today in Japan so scans should hopefully appear on the internet soon.
