Final Fantasy XIII-2′s first week sales have been released by Media Create today. As many would expect after the disappointment many fans had with the first game, sales are drastically lower than FFXIII’s first week.
The Playstation 3 version of FFXIII-2 appeared at the top of last weeks Japanese chart, selling 525,271 copies between last Thursday and Sunday. The first game sold 1,501,964 copies in the same period at it’s launch. The Xbox 360 version failed to break into the top 20 meaning it’s sold under 28,406 copies.
Although these kind of numbers are incredible, for a Final Fantasy game, these sales make it the worst performing numbered title in recent history. It could be attributed to multiple factors. The disillusion of fans who were incredibly disappointed in XIII, the fact it’s a sequel therefore alienating new fans, or changes in the audiences taste. Whatever the cause, perfect review scores don’t seem to be helping it shift more numbers. Maybe if Square can win back some fans trust with the improvements made to the game, word of mouth could help it attain more sales over the next few weeks.
